Prince of Gluttony: Born from Betrayal

Chapter 104: The first Contract

Jayden was the first to arrive. It made sense considering that she was the first one Cain spoke to about the meeting and that his dorm was closer in proximity to the training grounds than the womens dorms.

Jayden herself however had a silly grin from ear to ear as the fact that Cain had trusted her with such an important secret. More so she felt proud that Cain had come to her first.

While she did have an inkling about what Cain was about to do and say, she was content for now knowing that she was first. If that damned fox temptress to try and pull one over on her, Jayden would be able to rub her face in the fact Cain chose her first insteaf of some stinky fox!

Cain had no idea what nonsensical thoughts were racing through her mind as she ran up and hugged him, snuggling into his chest as if she hadnt seen him in a long time despite the fact that they had seen each other not even 15 minutes ago.

Cain felt conflicted seeing the innocent display of affection she was showing and while guilt did eat at the corner of his mind, he also realized he couldn't continue without taking at least this much precaution.

"Jayden," he began, his serious tone catching Jayren off guard, her ears perking up as she tilted her head up to meet his gaze. The look in Cain's eyes betrayed his hesitation but his voice still came out evenly

"I am sorry but you know what happened to me. Trusting someone so implicitly is not in the cards for me anymore. I need.....assurances."

Jayden frowned upon hearing that word. While it hurt her that Cain couldn't fully trust her, she understood why. The people he had grown up with and who had shown him kindness for years suddenly stabbed him in the back and left him for dead.

It honestly would be weird if he did trust people after all of that. Still, the word assurance didn't seem to be that pleasant either but she would do anything Cain required of her. She was his and he was hers as far as she was concerned.

"I....I learned of an old magic that acts as a sort of contract or a vow."

Jayden's tail started to wag involuntarily. A vow?! As in like a marriage vow?! Jayden's caution immediately transformed into eagerness at the idea.

"I'll do it!" She practically shouted, failing to hide her excitement. They hadn't been dating that long but Cain was already proposing to her?! How coule she not be excited.

Cain's eye twitched as he realized by Jayden's blushing face and overly excited demeanor that she had misunderstood what he was getting at.

"It is a magic contract that comes at a cost, the more you put on the line, the stronger it becomes and the more you have to gain...."

Jayden's ears drooped in disappointment. So it wasnt a marriage proposal. Jayden let out a sigh as the disappointment washed over her, giving her an aura that invoked pity.

Cain let out a sigh as he reached out to cup her face in his hands. Jayden barely had time to register what was going on before Cain leaned in and kissed her, his lips brushing against hers, conveying his affection for her.

By the time Cain pulled away, Jayden's tail was already wagging like a helicopter with a blush on her face. Her gaze was locked on Cain's lips with an eager expression. She wanted more.

Cain had a wry smile on his face as he tried to pivot the conversation back to the topic at hand.

"If you agree to accepting the contra–"

"I agree! I agree! Tell me what I gotta do!"

Jayden interrupted Cain, all too eager to commit to what her man wanted her to do, even if it meant jumping off a bridge or something.

Caught off guard by just how enthusiastic she was, Cain was left speechless for a second. However when he managed to gather himself, a faint purple light began to coalesce in front of him.

The purple light was the physical manisfestation of his magic. Jayden didn't know why but she instinctually put out her hand to touch it.

Almost instantly, a flood of words entered her head. She had no idea what some of them meant but she was able to get a general idea based on the overall context.

This was a contract that would bind her to Cain. She would never be allowed to betray him or have any malicious intent against him or she would lose whatever she placed on the line for him.

However she also noticed that the conditions also stated that betrayal only counted if it was of her own free will. Coercion or mind controlled based betrayal did not count.

The thought never occured to Jayden that such a thing could happen. The idea that a contract could be broken because of some monster using charm magic to make her attack Cain could have catastrophic consequences without that precaution! Cain really did think of everything!

Jayden felt her brain start to hurt as she tried to decipher the words inside of her head and quickly gave up as a result, she instead focused on the very last line. The only part that she needed to care about and the only thing she needed to input herself: What she would place on the line for the contract.

Jayden didn't even think for a second as her own magic, once a fiery red now tinged with a hint of gold sparked to life.

The contract formed with magic began to solidify before twisting and distorting into nothingness after Jayden wrote down two words.

Cain's brow furrowed as he felt an invisible tether tying him to Jayden. The connection was incredibly solid and Cain had a feeling that he would be able to tell where Jayden was at all times now.

"What did you put up for the terms of the contract?!" He asked, unable to contain his curiousity and worry about what Jayden had done.

Jayden simply smiled and told him the truth about the two words she had written down wthout a second thought.

"I put up my life~!'
