Chapter 525: The Many Faces of Humanity (Part 2)
"Oh, okay, then Yuwen, can we add each other on WeChat?"
Zhou Yuwen nodded, and at this moment, other relatives eagerly leaned in, saying, "Let's add each other on WeChat too."
"Me too, me too."
"Let me scan it."
Zhou Yuwen held up his QR code for everyone to scan and soon had a dozen new friend requests. He didn't bother opening each one individually.
He directly handed his phone to Li Shiqi, who was sitting next to him.
At this moment, Li Shiqi was still wearing a red OL uniform. She was naturally delicate-looking, and with this red outfit and light makeup, she stood out even more among the relatives.
Zhou Yuwen handed the phone to Li Shiqi and asked her to help accept all the new requests.
Li Shiqi nodded and honestly started working on it.
Zhou Yuwen continued to chat and laugh with the relatives.
Seeing how polite Zhou Yuwen was to everyone, the older relatives felt very satisfied. They commented, "No wonder our Yuwen can make money; look at his attitude."
Hasn't Yuwen made hundreds of millions by now?
He's a real boss.
I heard he's planning to build a skyscraper in Jinling.
The person I knew before was nothing, only earning tens of thousands and acting like nobody knew him.
Actually, these relatives didn't have much to talk about with Zhou Yuwen. Mostly, they just took the opportunity to gather and have a lively time, catching up with old acquaintances over food and drinks.
Zhou Yuwen managed his alcohol intake well, politely taking small sips when anyone toasted him.
In the end, though the others were quite tipsy, Zhou Yuwen remained clear-headed.
Of course, Liu Shuo didn't hold back on drinking.
Zhou Guobin didn't shy away from drinking with relatives either, his face turning red.
Zhou Guobin was a reserved middle-aged man. Since everyone here was an elder, they couldn't very well force drinks on Zhou Yuwen, a younger member, so they ended up toasting Zhou Guobin instead.
Zhou Guobin himself was delighted and drank a few more glasses, eventually dozing off right there.
Zhou Yuwen asked Liu Shuo if he was okay.
Although Liu Shuo was clearly more than half-drunk, he still acted unaffected, insisting it was nothing.
Liu Shuo liked to show off. Originally, everyone was there to toast Zhou Yuwen, but seeing a young man about Zhou's age sitting next to him, they naturally asked about him.
Then Zhou Yuwen introduced him as a high school friend and business partner.
Upon hearing this introduction, the relatives were immediately enthusiastic, quickly offering drinks to Liu Shuo and saying, "It's thanks to your help that our Wenwen is doing so well today."
Zhou Yuwen's introduction made even Zhou Guobin ask Liu Shuo a few questions, telling Zhou's mother to pour a glass so he could toast with Liu Shuo.
"I remember you."
Zhou Guobin said he remembered Liu Shuo from high school with Xiao Wen.
This remark astonished Liu Shuo, and he quickly raised his glass with both hands.
Zhou Guobin said, "Our Xiao Wen has achieved what he has today thanks to your help."
"Uncle, no, you mustn't say that. I could only have achieved what I have today because of my brother's help!"
And just like that, one glass followed another.
Liu Shuo got drunk, but he was indeed happy, feeling a sense of recognition.
Not only Liu Shuo, but some relatives also hoped to have a drink with Li Shiqi, though Zhou Yuwen blocked them.
Among the relatives at the table, Li Shiqi appeared genuinely stunning.
An older relative asked, "Are you Wenwen's girlfriend?"
"She must be, being so beautiful."
"Ah, Wenwen, you have good taste. Your younger uncle, over thirty now, doesn't even have a girlfriend yet."
Someone sighed.
Zhou Yuwen just smiled at this and said nothing.
Later, relatives inquired about the relationship between Li Shiqi and Zhou Yuwen.
Zhou Yuwen said she was his girlfriend, a former high school classmate, and now his assistant at the company.
Hearing this, everyone thought even more highly of Zhou Yuwen, remarking that after all, when you're wealthy, you can have anything.
Someone raised a glass and asked if Li Shiqi could drink.
Zhou Yuwen waved his hand and said, "She doesn't drink."
The relatives nodded in agreement, saying, yes, it's better for girls to drink less.
Later, very few people engaged Zhou Yuwen in conversation; they all chatted among themselves.
Zhou Yuwen looked at Liu Shuo, who seemed in a rather sorry state, and asked if he was okay.
"Want to go outside for a smoke?"
Zhou Yuwen asked.
Upon hearing about smoking, Liu Shuo perked up and eagerly nodded.
Zhou Yuwen hardly smoked, but the room was too stuffy, and he just wanted a change of scene.
Likewise, Li Shiqi didn't want to stay in the room.
Seeing Zhou Yuwen leave, she followed him out.
Zhou Yuwen and Liu Shuo went to the hallway outside the private room, right by the window.
Liu Shuo eagerly lit a cigarette and started puffing away, "Bro, your family is really enthusiastic!"
Zhou Yuwen held the cigarette given by a relative earlier but didn't light it, just gazing at the view outside the window and smiling calmly.
He said to Li Shiqi, "Both Liu Shuo and I drank, and we can't drive. I'll call you a cab to go home later?"
Li Shiqi nodded, saying she was fine with it.
"You've drunk quite a bit; are you feeling uncomfortable?" Although Li Shiqi and Zhou Yuwen hadn't been intimate, she was his girlfriend, and she softly comforted him while reaching out to hold his arm.
Zhou Yuwen shook his head, "I'm okay; he drank most of it."
Zhou Yuwen pointed at Liu Shuo.
Liu Shuo chuckled and assured, "I'm fine, I'm wide awake!"
Just then, Zhou Yuwen's mother came looking.
"Yuwen."
"Where did you go in the blink of an eye? Everyone is looking for you," Yang Lirong beamed, clearly in high spirits as well.
Raising a child for eighteen years, isn't this what it's all about?
"Looking for me? They all look like they're having a great time drinking," Zhou Yuwen said.
Yang Lirong told Zhou Yuwen, "You're the main character today; how can you come out?"
She pulled Zhou Yuwen aside and whispered in his ear, telling him that his dad had a bit too much to drink and asked him to go check on him.
Zhou Yuwen turned his head slightly to see that his father indeed seemed to have drunk quite a lot.
So he called Liu Shuo over.
As they entered, they happened to see his cousin Peng Xiaoyong.
Peng Xiaoyong was the same as ever, reserved, wearing black-rimmed glasses.
He was here today, but it was clear the day was not about him; he didn't know what to say and stayed low-key.
His mother, Zhou Yuwen's aunt, had just scolded him when no one was around, saying that he was too dull and didn't know how to present himself, unlike others.
"Your cousin is successful now. Just a bit of his help could sustain you for a lifetime."
"Say more nice things and toast a few glasses."
Such were her words, but Peng Xiaoyong still felt uncomfortable in that setting. In fact, he found the relatives' banter rather laughable; despite their claims of close kinship, it ultimately revolved around interests.
Zhou Yuwen was familiar with Peng Xiaoyong, and seeing him alone, he went over and tapped him on the shoulder, signaling him to stand up.
Peng Xiaoyong stood up curiously.
Zhou Yuwen asked, "Have you been drinking?"
Peng Xiaoyong shook his head, "No."
Zhou Yuwen said to him, "My dad's had a bit too much. Can you drive him home later?"
Peng Xiaoyong immediately nodded, "Sure."
Zhou Yuwen said okay, then led Peng Xiaoyong and Liu Shuo over.
At this point, Zhou Guobin was still drinking with a few familiar relatives.
Seeing Zhou Yuwen coming over, the relatives stopped chatting and greeted him.
