Primordial Lust System

Chapter 26: Embers of Spectral Death

Boom!* A miniature explosion rippled through him the moment the words left his lips, a horrifying transformation tearing at his very core.

He could feel his very being torn apart at the base structure, his cells degenerating then regenerating, each time laced with something far more mystical.

But that was the least of his problems. He ground his teeth, fingers curling into fists, as he tried to endure the heartrending agony tearing through him.

Pained groans escaped his lips, drawing the attention of the girls. Their eyes widened in horror as faint crack lines spread across his skin, yet before they could split into catastrophic damage, they healed. The process repeated continuously.

"A… Aurelian… what's… what's happening to you!?" Amber muttered, approaching him, her hazel eyes glued to the blood dripping from his fists as his curled fingers tore into his flesh.

Was this the cost of the power he wielded? Had Aurelian tapped into something unorthodox? Myriads of thoughts flashed across her mind, her being inexplicably drawn to him.

"Stay back!" Aurelian groaned, eyeing the girl as she drew closer. This was the least of his worries; the next part would prove even more prominent than mere inner changes.

And sure enough, a resplendent light burst out of him, coloring the dungeon walls in a black hue, carrying with it a terrifying aura that washed over everything.

His presence became unbearable. Before Amber could move, she was forced to her knees, the pressure of the aura insurmountable.

The girls didn't fare any better as they collapsed to the ground, their faces kissing the dirt, frozen in a motionless state.

"Argh, dammit!" he cursed. Now that he looked back, perhaps this hadn't been the greatest idea he'd ever had. In retrospect, his judgment had been clouded by excitement.

Still, he could feel the pain ebbing away ever so slowly, along with the aura that encapsulated everything.

With it, he regained faint control of his body and dragged himself away. Any longer, and he doubted the girls would have survived.

His mind grew muddled as the changes continued to unfold, his eyes hazy, darkness clawing at him.

The same darkness he had experienced when he awakened his first supreme record.

"No, no, no, I can't fall asleep right now. I can't." He couldn't give in. Although the pain was lessening, it didn't make it any more bearable. The only thing keeping him sane was the prospect of unmatched power and potential.

Power to shed his weakness, and lucky for him, he had just the thing.

Dropping to his knees, he issued another mental command: Allocate all unallocated attribute points to Intelligence!

The response was immediate. His groggy mind turned clear, his obsidian eyes snapping open as cool streams of energy surged into his brain.

The sudden influx of clarity helped him regain a grip on himself, and as he did, his figure straightened until he stood tall, the thought of kneeling before pain unfathomable.

Before long, the pain fully disappeared, his mind anchored once more to reality.

Gasping deeply, he drew long breaths, scanning everything around him. Amber and the girls all looked fine, save for the dirt smudging their faces and the new expression that had crept in… fear.

He couldn't blame them. If some guy suddenly exploded with overwhelming aura and lit up the dungeon, it was only natural.

A notification soon flashed before his vision, drawing all his attention.

[Ding! The S-rank talent Phantom Blades has merged with the F-rank talent Passive Regeneration to become the S-rank talent: Embers of Spectral Death.]

(The light is life, the darkness death. By merging two concepts that repel each other, you have grasped the power to wield what lies in between. With a thought, form spectral blades of death that, upon impaling your foes, devours their lifeforce, channeling ten percent to you while the rest is consumed by the blades. Your foes shall be your fuel, your death your rebirth. The battlefield, your haven.)

As Aurelian read through the description, a black hue lit up within his obsidian eyes.

A thought surfaced at the back of his mind: The second supreme record has been anchored.

At this point, he didn't know what to say. He was unlocking power beyond his greatest imagination by the day, and it would be a shame to let it go unused.

No point delving into the mechanics. It was time to test it out on the battlefield.

His eyes flickered with a sense of adventure as he glanced at the girls. "Follow me."

With that, his figure sprang into motion, sprinting deeper into the dungeon, anticipation for battle welling up inside him.

Behind him, Amber snapped out of her stupor. If she had had myriads of questions before, now they had multiplied tenfold.

The youth before her didn't seem to be suffering from backlash, if anything, it looked like an upgrade.

But now wasn't the time to delve into such matters. Dusting her white robe, she ran after him, yelling, "Wait for us!" The girls behind her followed, equally confused.

He didn't have to go further than a couple thousand meters before his face lit up. A hundred meters ahead, multiple goblins stood, their figures numbering in the twenties, pacing about aimlessly.

Their frames stood at one and a half meters, spiked clubs firmly gripped in their arms.

A quick scan with his appraisal skill brightened him further. "All Level 2s, with a couple of Level 3s among them. Good! This ought to be fun."

"What?" Emily gasped, just catching up with Aurelian as she heard his words.

It was already bad enough dealing with Level 1s, but these were all Level 2s, with a few Level 3s in the mix? Her words caught in her throat.

Amber looked more surprised than shocked. Still, she had a feeling Aurelian wasn't the type to court death.

The girls behind them, however, didn't have time to gawk. They plopped to the ground, panting.

Casting a sideways glance back, Aurelian sighed. Reaching for his waist, where he had tied the wristbands, he took five and tossed them to the girls. "Take these. They should offer you an additional measure of safety. Just wait for me here."

His words lingered behind him as he lunged ahead, instantly drawing all the goblins' attention onto him.

They didn't hesitate to charge, as their crimson eyes locked on him. Smiling at their response, he flicked his wrist, not out of necessity, but just for the flair of it, and soon spectral blades materialized before him.

Only this time, they weren't four, but six. His additional Intelligence attributes had done more than just clear his mind.

Their color was no longer blue, but a glowing darkness that encapsulated their form, giving off an aura of corrosion.

As he watched, the dark blades shot forth, he had no doubt they would live up to their description.
