Chapter 104: The Eve of Selection [II]

"See... I broke through to E-rank!" Amber muttered, breaking free from their embrace before shrieking sweetly.

As she backed away, her hands rose up. Her supple skin flickered with a blue glow before, ever so slowly, a blue wisp of energy floated above her palms, pulsing with explosive energy. "You don't have to leave me behind now," she added, looking back at him pitifully.

"Hahaha! Good! Good! Good!" Aurelian chuckled softly, his hands extending instinctively to her cheeks before pinching them in praise while casting his advanced appraisal on her.

[Amber Rose — Level 27]

[Rank: (E)]

[Weakness: Susceptible to most attacks from host.]

"Hmm." Aurelian hummed in thought. There was an improvement—from susceptible to all attacks to most. It was something, right?

Well, it couldn't be helped since he was basing her improvement off his own. But it was great nonetheless.

"You did well," Aurelian muttered, his eyes lighting up in genuine appreciation of her feat. With an A-rank talent like hers, the normal pace of advancement to E-rank should've taken a week or two.

But achieving the same results in just a little over four days? That took pure dedication and grit.

"I know, ain't I great?" she whispered excitedly, a sense of pride swelling inside her.

Sigh* Aurelian exhaled, his lips twitching as he stared at the smug look plastered on her face. Suppose some of his shamelessness was rubbing off on her.

His grip on her cheeks tightened slightly; her smug look replaced by a scowl. "Ow... it hurts, let go..." Amber squealed, her face scrunching up.

"Guess some things still haven't changed with your advancement," Aurelian smirked as he teased her some more.

"Uh, I was wrong..." she shrieked as Aurelian finally let go, before a cheeky smile stretched across her lips.

Her eyes lit up with mysterious flair as she began narrating her adventures to Aurelian.

"You killed people?" Aurelian breathed, his brows arching in surprise.

"Yeah... but... but it's only because they wanted to do bad things to me first..." she sputtered, flustered. "You're not mad at me... are you?" she asked, her eyes fidgeting around the room.

"No... no. You remember what I told you, right? I'm just surprised by your growing... decisiveness," Aurelian said, assuring her, a cold glint flashing across his eyes. Kindness to one's enemies was ruthlessness to oneself—unless one's strength so far eclipsed that of their foes that their existence posed no threat.

He mused briefly before cracking a smile. "Tell me more..." Aurelian began, before Amber cut him off.

"Really? You're not mad? Then you should know... it's not just one group but a few! They were bad people, of course... Then there were these massive spiders... and I gained a new skill..." Amber blubbered on, her face lighting up with excitement as she narrated her adventures.

"Hmm, sounds like you've had your share of adventure," Aurelian breathed, watching her finish. So much packed into such a short stretch of time.

He could also see the reason behind her monstrous advancement rate. Turns out she was a battle maniac, hopping from one dungeon to another immediately after clearing the former.

"What about you?" Amber squeaked, her purple eyes lighting up with curiosity.

"Uh, me?" Aurelian shrugged it off. "Nothing much...just fought a talking beast."

"Huh?" Amber blinked rapidly as the words sank in. A talking beast? How was that even possible? She murmured, her own adventures now seeming far less impressive in comparison.

The more she listened, the wider her eyes grew.

And just like that, Aurelian narrated some of his adventures to Amber, before the two sank into conversation.

Both of them stood near the edge of the room, bathed in the moonlight as they gazed at the stars above. Aurelian filled her in on the academy selections—from the information he'd picked up from Eira and Sera to the decision he'd made.

"Supreme Academy?" Amber muttered, her head buzzing with all the information Aurelian had just dumped on her. From what she'd heard, it only took in monstrous geniuses. And while her recent feats might've placed her in that category, she feared she still hadn't crossed that bar.

But Aurelian was different. Even though they now shared the same rank, he was still as unfathomable to her as when she'd been F-rank. Would this mean they'd have to part ways again? she wondered, the terrible realization dawning on her.

No, no, no... that can't happen again, Amber thought, her mind spiraling. She had just gotten him back, she couldn't lose him again.

Her thoughts whirled before her eyes suddenly lit up. A thought formed at the back of her mind, a blush creeping up her face as she murmured softly,

"You must be tired from everything," Amber began, her face turning another shade of crimson before she continued, "How about we rest... together?"

"Huh?" Aurelian blinked, turning to stare at her. Ever since he'd started boosting his endurance stats, his need for physical sleep to rejuvenate energy had dropped fantastically. He could go a week without it and still be fine—but he still loved it, and indulging once in a while wasn't bad.

He mused briefly before her next words cut through his thoughts.

"And maybe... have a go at it," Amber murmured, blushing furiously, remembering how she'd acquired her A-rank Iron Mirage talent.

"Is that all?" Aurelian's lips curled into a smile as his eyes locked with hers, just in time to hear her last words.

"Maybe... another... talent isn't so bad," Amber whispered, her words catching in her throat.

"Aha! You greedy little girl!" Aurelian smirked, his hands sliding to her waist before pulling her close. Then, with a smooth motion, he lifted her and placed her on his lap, flipping her around—her small, perky ass raised up to him.

"You think it's that easy?" Aurelian quipped before she could regain her bearings, his hand dropping down to smack her butt.

"Argh!" she shrieked helplessly, the events happening too fast for her to process. Her face flushed as her body rocked gently from his spunking.

The embarrassment on her face soon faded, replaced by soft giggles that filled the room.

Soon, the fatigue she'd accumulated from the dungeon runs caught up to her. Her eyelids fluttered, before she slowly drifted into sleep on his lap.

Sighing softly, Aurelian picked her up and laid her on the bed at the center of the room, pulling the covers over her. He watched her sleep soundly, a small smile cracking his lips.

"Don't worry," he murmured, voice barely above a whisper. "I won't leave you behind."

Turning away, he plopped back onto the floor, sinking into a lotus position before delving once more into his Infinite Mana Pathways.
