Chapter 201: Primordial Barrage's Three Modes
Ding!
"Alright," Sam thought. "Time to test everything."
The [Dimension of Time] was his greatest advantage.
What felt like months inside would only amount to weeks outside, which meant he had room to experiment, fail, adjust, and still come out ahead.
This was his chance to properly test all of his skills.
Not all of them could be trained here, though.
[Determination is Fuel] was impossible to test in this space.
He couldn't die here, so there was no way to see how the skill actually functioned.
[True Primordial Spirits] was also off the table.
That skill required killing monsters, and the [Dimension of Time] was nothing more than a void.
There were no creatures here.
That left him with four skills he could actually test.
Four was still plenty.
Each of them was strong, each of them unique, and learning them properly would take a long time.
"I guess I'll test them all one by one for a quick demo," Sam muttered, "then move on from there to see what I can really achieve with each."
He nodded to himself.
That was the plan.
He pulled up the list of skills he could train.
[Skills: Primordial Barrage (Primordial), Primordial Wings (Primordial), Primordial Tendrils (Primordial), Primordial Hellscape (Primordial)]
"Hm."
His eyes settled on the first one.
Primordial Barrage.
This was a skill he already had some experience with, back when it was only [Cataclysmic Barrage (Forsaken+)].
But now it had evolved, and he knew it had gained entirely new functions.
No sense wasting time.
He raised his hand.
"Primordial Barrage."
Ding!
A panel instantly appeared before him.
[Select the mode you wish your skill to transform into:]
[Turret] [Machine Gun] [Aura Ray]
Sam studied the screen.
'It's probably only showing up because this is my first time using it,' he thought.
He could already tell what this meant.
Each mode was going to be its own weapon, its own method of unleashing destruction.
He placed his thought into [Turret].
The panel dissolved, and the air above him rippled.
Crimson aura surged upward, his affinities intertwining with it, swirling together into something massive.
The energy condensed, shifting into solid form.
A turret, enormous and menacing, floated above him.
Sam's grin widened.
'It's the same as before… but stronger. And sharper.'
The appearance had changed.
The edges were heavier, reinforced, more feral in design.
Even the aura radiating off it felt like it could crush him if he wasn't the one commanding it.
Sam pointed toward his [Primordial Clone].
The turret's barrel swiveled instantly, locking onto his target.
"Fire!"
The aura within the turret churned violently, compressing into raw destruction.
A split second later—
BOOM!
The recoil was so intense that Sam stumbled back, the force of the shot slamming against him.
Fwish!
Slam!
The projectile ripped across the void and smashed into the clone's [Primordial Barrier].
The impact wasn't a single strike.
It drilled forward, piercing again and again, hammering at the barrier's durability.
By the time it faded, the single bullet had inflicted ten full hits.
Sam whistled under his breath.
'Good. Really good. Just need to work on handling the recoil.'
His grin stayed fixed.
There was no cooldown either.
As long as he had aura and affinities left, he could keep firing.
That alone made it devastating.
Sam dismissed the turret and switched to the second mode.
[Machine Gun].
The thought alone was enough.
Aura surged again, swirling above him into a new shape.
This time, it wasn't a turret.
It was a massive rotary weapon, its barrel round and lined with dozens of holes.
The machine gun floated, menacing, aimed wherever Sam willed it.
He didn't bother pointing with his hand this time.
In a real battle, lifting his arm every time would only waste seconds.
Seconds that could get him killed.
Instead, he simply thought of his target.
The machine gun swiveled immediately, locking onto the clone.
Sam smirked.
No words this time. Just intent.
Fwish! Bzzzzzz!
The weapon began charging.
Aura condensed, his affinities spinning, but this time it wasn't instant.
Three full seconds passed as the machine gun built power.
In battle, that would be a long time. But if he could cover for it, the payoff might be worth it.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The machine gun roared.
Bullets tore through the void, a storm of crimson light shredding the air.
Dozens per second, each one a condensed strike of aura.
The clone's barrier flickered and shuddered under the unrelenting assault.
Five seconds later—
CRACK!
The barrier split apart, breaking completely.
Of course, in this dimension, it instantly reformed.
Still, Sam's eyes lit with interest.
The machine gun was brutal.
But as soon as the barrage ended, smoke poured from the barrel.
The weapon sagged, its energy spent.
"Hm," Sam muttered. "Looks like it needs time."
He tried to fire again.
Clack!
Nothing. The weapon was overheated.
He crossed his arms, watching carefully.
The smoke drifted away slowly, the weapon cooling.
Thirty seconds later—
Clack!
The barrel lifted. Ready to fire again.
'Perfect,' Sam thought. 'Longer than the turret to prepare, but the output is insane.'
Satisfied, he dismissed it. Only one left.
"Aura Ray," he thought.
Fwoosh! BOOM!
The explosion of energy was louder than either of the other two.
A massive beam structure formed above him, constantly distorting with raw aura and affinity energy.
At its tip was a small orb. Dark.
Sam stared at it, a grin tugging at his lips.
'This looks dangerous.'
The orb pulsed as energy condensed into it.
The sound of charging filled the void. A low hum, vibrating in his chest.
The energy swirled, tighter and tighter, far more than the other two modes.
Then he noticed something. On the side of the ray, a crimson bar appeared.
It rose slowly, filling in as the orb continued to charge.
Sam counted the seconds.
Five. Ten. Fifteen.
At exactly fifteen seconds, the bar reached its peak.
The orb turned pitch black. The world seemed to freeze.
And then—
BOOOOOOM!
The orb detonated. The beam unleashed its fury.
A ray of annihilation shot forward, lancing across the void toward his clone.
The clone smiled, unbothered.
"=)"
The beam struck. The resulting explosion was so violent that Sam was thrown back hundreds of meters.
The white void shook under the impact.
The crimson light expanded into a colossal blast.
Even from afar, Sam felt its heat, its fury, its sheer destructive force.
His eyes widened.
'This… this almost feels like the [Nuke].'
But no, it was different.
Not as massive in area. But in raw power? It eclipsed it completely.
Sam shielded his face from the shockwave, laughter bubbling up in his chest.
When the blast finally subsided, his grin broke wide.
It was everything he wanted. Everything he needed.
A perfect weapon of destruction. The void still smoked with crimson residue.
The clone appeared at the center, its barrier flickering, scarred from the lingering aftermath of the explosion.
Even after the direct strike, the effect had lingered, eating away at the defenses.
Sam couldn't stop smiling.
"Perfect," he whispered.
But he also noticed that the [Aura Ray] dimmed, meaning that much like the [Machine Gun], it had a cooldown.
Sam decided to wait around, expecting a minute of cooldown or something alike.
But... ten minutes passed, and nothing!
"What the..."
It was only after 15 minutes passed since the [Aura Ray] was fired that the orb lit back up slightly, indicated it could be used once more.
"Hm."
It was much longer than the other two, but it was expected, as this one was not only more powerful, but also used more power.
Overall, Sam was satisfied. He looked at the clone, his eyes burning with excitement.
"Well then," he said aloud, "One done. Three more to test."
