Chapter 162: Zareth's Overwhelming Weapons, Breaking the Star Domain
Sam had only the primordial sword, his clone, and his other abilities to fight with.
That was all he could bring to bear against the being standing before him.
Zareth, however, carried far more.
The abyssal sword spear glowed in one of his hands, its jagged edge radiating with destructive power.
In another hand, he could summon the chaotic magic of Jevil's Cards, reshaping them at will.
Dark light from the black sun orb coursed through his body, letting him pour endless strength into his fists.
The abyssal claws stretched long and razor-sharp, ready to tear apart anything in their path.
Asmodeus' trident hovered nearby, its three tips carrying enough energy to pierce anything.
The roaring titan's stars burned within his grasp, channeling cosmic power into his defenses.
Abyssal wings beat from his back, sharp and alive, pushing him through the air with crushing speed.
The abyssal crown glowed above his head, marking him as one chosen by corruption itself.
The eye of corruption shone from his forehead, watching Sam with unblinking malice.
And upon his face rested Jevil's mask, leaking laughter that twisted the silence into something unbearable.
Every artifact thrummed with energy, and every single one of them was a weapon Sam knew could destroy him.
And beyond those relics, Zareth almost certainly had dozens of skills, each one terrifyingly powerful, each one honed to perfection.
[We have no choice, keep going.]
As if that wasn't enough, Zareth was level 80.
Sam was certain that not a single awakener in this entire realm could hope to face him. Not one.
That meant his opponent not only had superior weapons, but also superior stats, superior skills, and a superior level.
On top of all of that, his determination was burning as brightly as Sam's own.
The two of them faced each other, both unwilling to take a single step back.
"The more I look at you, the more I see your pupils shake," Zareth said.
He raised two of his arms, and in each hand another artifact shimmered into existence, the trident in one, the abyssal sword spear in the other.
'He can summon them back from any distance… throwing them doesn't cost him anything,' Sam thought, his eyes narrowing.
Zareth smirked, as though reading his doubt.
"But even through that small flicker of fear, your determination still shines brighter."
"…."
"I only need to break it completely," Zareth whispered, his voice low and certain. "And once it shatters, I will kill you."
"Good luck with that," Sam said with a grin.
His crimson aura burned hotter, coiling around him like a flame refusing to die.
"Who knows… maybe I'll just trap you here again."
The moment those words left his mouth, Zareth's aura flared violently.
The artifacts in his hands ignited with new power, as though feeding on his rage.
"You…" Zareth trembled.
Then his face twisted into laughter.
"HAHA! SO BE IT, THEN!"
[His determination faltered slightly, good job =)]
Sam blinked.
'I wasn't even trying to do that...'
Zareth's expression hardened.
In one hand, the cards twisted and spun until they reshaped themselves into a jagged scythe.
With that, five of his six arms could now attack at once.
The only one that couldn't was the hand holding the roaring titan's star, the artifact fueling his barrier, the [Star Domain].
Sam's eyes gleamed as realization struck him.
'Wait… if the stars fuel his barrier… then…'
A plan began to take shape.
But first, he had to create the opening to pull it off.
Fwish! SWASH!
Zareth's abyssal wings snapped open, blasting wind as he surged forward.
He completely ignored the forsaken clone standing in his way, closing the distance with terrifying speed.
But—
PRIMORDIAL TENDRIL!
The forsaken clone raised its primordial sword, and a massive tendril shot out from its blade.
The tendril wrapped tightly around Zareth's leg before he could react, yanking him out of the air and slamming him into the ground.
The coils wrapped around his body, holding him down.
"YOU—" Zareth roared, "I am the strongest! Do you truly believe you can restrain me so easily?"
BOOM!
Dark energy exploded from his body, ripping the tendril to shreds as he tore himself free.
Sam wasn't surprised. He had half-expected nothing less.
Every battle against the forsaken lords had been overwhelming, but this one was something else entirely.
It was like fighting all of them combined, wearing one face.
Yet deep within his soul, something whispered differently.
Something told him this fight could be won.
[Just get rid of him quickly.]
The voice was unfamiliar, unlike anything he had heard before.
And for some reason, it filled him with urgency.
Fwish! Slash!
Zareth blurred forward again, his speed impossible to follow.
Five weapons and fists swung toward Sam at once, the scythe, the sword spear, the trident, abyssal claws, and a black-sun-empowered fist.
Sam knew dodging them all was impossible. So he didn't.
Clang! Slash! Clash!
He blocked two of the strikes with his primordial sword.
The other three crashed into him—
But instead of tearing him apart, they struck the glowing surface of the [Eternal Barrier].
Zareth froze, confusion flashing across his face.
"You have a shield like mine…" he muttered, his grip tightened, "Then I only need to destroy it."
"Let's see which one lasts longer," Sam replied.
His grin widened, twisted with malice so sharp that even Zareth seemed to falter.
From the corner of his vision, Sam noticed the forsaken clone moving forward, though it wasn't smiling.
Fwish!
The battlefield erupted into chaos.
Sam, his clone, and Zareth clashed over and over, weapons ringing as power burst around them.
They dodged abilities, countered swings, and pressed harder with every strike.
Neither side gave ground. It was a stalemate.
But only for a time. Minutes passed, and Sam suddenly pushed forward with a fierce slash.
Zareth caught the blade, blocking cleanly.
Sam's grin widened.
"Why bother blocking if your [Star Domain] is impenetrable?"
"The same reason you do, even though your barrier seems indestructible," Zareth shot back.
Both leaned forward, their powers colliding, crimson aura against abyssal corruption.
While they struggled, the clone acted.
Twenty [Abyssal Obliteration] black holes flared to life behind it.
They merged into one, compacting into pure destruction.
Bullet of Oblivion!
BOOM!
The black mass shot forward like a cannon, straight toward Zareth.
He reacted instantly, kicking Sam away and spinning to meet the new threat.
He understood immediately.
'Not aimed at me… aimed at the star.'
The bullet was screaming straight for the [Roaring Titan's Star].
With a snarl, Zareth thrust forward three artifacts at once, the trident, the scythe, the sword spear.
He struggled, forcing his power outward.
At the last moment, he deflected the bullet, hurling it away.
He exhaled, turning back toward Sam.
"Good attempt, but—"
His words froze.
Sam's body burned with crimson aura, brighter and fiercer than ever before.
His eyes leaked with power. And in the instant Zareth wasted on the clone, Sam had already begun.
SLASH STORM!
A torrent of slashes erupted from his sword.
They weren't aimed at Zareth's body, but at the roaring titan's star.
Each cut connected, even from afar, crashing into the [Star Domain] like waves on stone.
Zareth roared, stepping forward, deflecting each strike with his weapons.
He couldn't allow the barrier to collapse. He couldn't let even one slash hit the star.
Sam blurred, his sword a storm of endless movement.
Hundreds of slashes poured down, faster than eyes could follow.
And then—
SLASH STORM!
The clone unleashed the same ability, releasing its own torrent from behind.
Now Zareth was under siege from two storms at once.
The pressure doubled, crushing in from both sides. He held firm, but the strain grew unbearable.
These two beings before him were unlike anything he had fought.
He had faced primordials before. He had even slain some.
But that thing... Sam was worse than any of them.
He was the embodiment of what Zareth hated most.
"Don't you see? This won't work—"
SLASH!
Sam's sword cut through the storm, his focus deadly sharp.
The blade struck the [Roaring Titan's Star].
SNAP!
Cracks split across its surface, spreading like shattered glass.
And then, with a final burst of power, it broke apart.
The fragments dissolved into dust, vanishing in an instant.
'He destroyed it… so easily.' Zareth's eyes widened. 'Just how strong is his determination?!'
Ding!
[The "Star Domain" has been broken.]
