Chapter 38: Dratini VS Jigglypuff

Asahi and Green made their way to Rainbow University's battle arena.

Even though it was evening, the arena was bustling with students engaged in battles.

One particular match caught Asahi's eye.

"Nidorino, use Sucker Punch!" At the trainer's command, Nidorino lunged forward with force.

"Now, Gengar!" Instead of dodging, Gengar took the hit head-on and retaliated with a Shadow Ball aimed at Nidorino.

The two Pokémon traded blows, making for an intense match.

Green glanced at the battle, lost interest, and turned to Asahi.

"You're interested in battles of this level?"

The match wasn't impressive—just two inexperienced trainers fumbling around. Even Green thought she could do better. She couldn't understand why Asahi was watching.

Asahi chuckled. "It's not the battle itself. Seeing Nidorino and Gengar just reminds me of something nostalgic."

The iconic battle from the opening scene of the Pokémon games played in his mind.

"Let's move on."

Leading Green to the arena manager, Asahi asked if there were any available battlefields.

The manager, surprised by Asahi's teacher ID, quickly recovered and said, "Yes, Field No. 2 is free."

As they headed there, the manager couldn't help but ask, "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you before."

Asahi nodded politely. "I am."

"So young!" The manager was impressed.

Reaching the designated field, Asahi declined the offer to have a referee and stood opposite Green.

"I have only two Pokémon besides Gardevoir, so how about a 2v2 standard single battle?" Asahi suggested.

"No problem!" Green was eager to prove herself.

Though she didn't say it aloud, she felt deeply grateful to Asahi for helping her find her parents and giving her a job. If she could win and impress him, perhaps he'd feel proud of recruiting her!

"Then, let the battle begin!"

At Asahi's signal, both trainers simultaneously threw their Poké Balls.

With a flash of light, Dratini and Jigglypuff appeared on the field, immediately facing off.

"Of course, it's Dratini! My Jigglypuff isn't scared of Dragon-type moves!" Green smirked. "Jigglypuff, use Sweet Kiss!"

The balloon-like Jigglypuff batted its round eyes and blew a pink, heart-shaped kiss toward Dratini.

Asahi reacted instantly. "Agility!"

Dratini, having recently mastered Agility, deftly twisted its body, avoiding the pink heart with ease.

"You only used Sweet Kiss? Could it be Jigglypuff doesn't know any other Fairy-type moves?" Asahi teased before commanding, "Aqua Jet!"

"Mi—!"

With a melodic cry, Dratini's body became shrouded in water. The high-speed move, combined with its enhanced agility, propelled Dratini forward like a blue lightning bolt.

Green called out to Jigglypuff, and the two, perfectly in sync, executed a clever maneuver.

Jigglypuff inflated its body, cushioning Dratini's impact and minimizing the damage.

"Not bad," Asahi admitted. "But you'll need more than that to win!"

"Dratini, Thunder Wave!"

Green grinned slyly. "Jigglypuff, Copycat!"

Jigglypuff mimicked Dratini's Thunder Wave, sending a burst of electricity back toward its opponent.

Asahi was surprised but confident. With its speed, Dratini wouldn't get caught so easily.

Dratini shifted mid-air, tracing a graceful arc and effortlessly dodging the encroaching Thunder Wave.

"It's not over yet!" Green declared.

Before her voice fully faded, Jigglypuff tilted its head slightly and opened its mouth.

A sweet and melodic song began flowing from Jigglypuff's lips:

"Bopobopo~"

It was Sing!

The Thunder Wave from Copycat had merely been a diversion; Green's true intention was to force Dratini to dodge, creating the perfect window for Jigglypuff to unleash Sing.
