Chapter 64: Chapter 64: The Damaged Plate, Lightning Devourer
The Zap Plate
It is a precious item with a similar effect to a magnet, both boosting the power of Electric-type moves by 20% in the games. However, the Zap Plate possesses unique qualities.
In addition to enhancing Electric-type moves, the Zap Plate allows Arceus to transform into an Electric-type Pokémon with its signature move Judgment, also changing to Electric-type.
While Plates can be found in certain locations, such as underground tunnels or the Grand Underground, their availability demonstrates that they are not one-of-a-kind items. This fact differentiates the Plates from Arceus's Origin Plates.
The cracked Zap Plate in Paul's possession came with its own set of issues, the most obvious being energy leakage, which diminished its effectiveness in boosting moves.
Over time, as energy continued to dissipate, the Zap Plate could eventually lose its power and become an ordinary slab.
This flaw significantly reduced the Plate's overall value, which is why Ueno chose to gift it to Paul.
After a brief examination, Paul casually tossed the Zap Plate to his eager Elekid.
"Figure out if you can use it somehow." Paul said.
"Bzzt~Bzzt~!"
Elekid had been waiting for this moment. Grabbing the Plate, it began to sense the energy within.
The pure Electric energy resonated with its body, and it immediately felt its strength surge.
Unlike the Magnet it had previously held, which boosted power by enhancing released energy, the Zap Plate directly amplified its innate strength—similar to multiplying power by 1.2 versus adding 0.2 directly to base power.
The difference was vast.
Elekid also sensed that the Zap Plate's potential far exceeded the current amplification it provided. However, as a Pokémon with limited understanding of such items, it couldn't figure out how to fully unlock its power.
The residual energy leaking from the Plate felt incredibly comforting to Elekid, and its body instinctively absorbed it.
The sensation was so satisfying that Elekid felt a strange urge to merge the Plate into its body.
Paul's knowledge of Attribute Plates was limited. Despite their rarity, a few had been discovered. Even researchers had yet to uncover their true potential.
"Could Elekid eat the Plate to absorb its energy?" Paul thought, then he froze.
In the anime, Heatran had consumed the Flame Plate, becoming uncontrollably powerful to the point of almost self-destruction.
But that was a Source of Life, something even Arceus couldn't fully integrate. The Zap Plate on the other hand, wasn't nearly as potent, and this one was damaged.
Paul's expression darkened as he considered the possibility. But ultimately, he dismissed the idea.
Swallowing the Plate seemed reckless and absurd.
Or so he thought.
"Bzzt..Bzzt…"
A sudden coughing fit from Elekid caught Paul's attention. He turned, only to see his Pokémon striking its jaw repeatedly.
With one final punch, Elekid swallowed the remaining fragment of the Zap Plate.
Paul: =_=''
Vulpix: "???"
Turtwig: "???"
Everyone froze.
"How did you even manage to swallow something that big?" Paul asked, his eye twitching.
"Bzzt!"
Elekid stood proudly, its cheeks flushed as it declared its resolve.
Before anyone could react, a massive surge of energy erupted from within Elekid.
Golden lightning coursed through its body, illuminating the cracks in the Zap Plate within.
"Focus! Absorb the energy and strengthen yourself!" Paul shouted.
"Bzzt!"
Elekid clenched its teeth and began absorbing the energy, following Paul's instructions to channel it throughout its body.
However, the energy was far too abundant. Elekid's cells greedily absorbed the power, but it was soon overwhelmed.
"Try using Bulk Up to reinforce your body!" Paul commanded.
Elekid, recalling its training with Ursaring, managed a crude imitation of the move, strengthening its physique to handle the strain.
"Sand Tomb, Turtwig!" Paul ordered.
"Twiiig!"
Turtwig created a massive vortex of sand, ready to act as a discharge point.
"Elekid, Thunder!"
"Bzzt!"
Elekid unleashed a powerful Thunder into the Sand Tomb, the energy spilling out in golden arcs. The vortex transformed into a glowing electric pit, its sheer intensity making even Ground-types wary.
Despite the release, the energy from the Zap Plate continued to overwhelm Elekid.
Elekid standing defiant, its body glowing with residual lightning, as Paul and the others brace for the aftermath.
