"Blastoise, come out!"

Kai took a moment to think before deciding to let Wartortle evolve. He felt it would give him a safer edge in the upcoming battles.

"Ka-mi?" Wartortle appeared, looking around. Seeing there was no rival or immediate battle, he quickly realized what was happening.

Kai smiled. "Don't worry, this is to make you stronger."

"Ka-mi! Ka-mi!"

Wartortle's eyes lit up with excitement. Ever since he'd seen Scizor's power-up, he'd been hoping for the same. Now, it was his turn, and he was ready.

Kai chuckled and placed his hand on Wartortle's head, using five of his intermediate Rare Candies.

Wartortle LV31 → LV36!

Wartortle felt an intense surge of energy as his body began to glow. In moments, he grew larger, his one-meter-tall frame expanding to match Kai's height. His shell widened, and two large barrels extended from its sides, signaling his evolution into Blastoise.

"Kamei!"

Blastoise roared with pride, feeling the immense strength coursing through him. He could now store and manipulate water energy with far greater control.

Kai used the Eye of Insight to analyze Blastoise's updated attributes.

Kai grinned. "Not bad! Three new skills awakened—Shell Smash, Flash Cannon, and Hydro Pump."

Introducing the New Blastoise

Kai returned Blastoise to his Poké Ball and rode his mountain bike to the Pokémon Center's training grounds. He released all his Pokémon to show them Blastoise's new form.

"Zha?"

"Da??"

"Ye-dan?"

"Woof??"

"Huh?"

The Pokémon stared in awe at Blastoise, confused by his sudden transformation.

"Kamei!" Blastoise stood tall, looking smug as he explained how their trainer's efforts had helped him evolve into his final form.

The other Pokémon quickly accepted the change. Kai was known for evolving his team as quickly as possible to maximize their potential. Among his Pokémon, only Golbat and Growlithe hadn't evolved yet.

Golbat's evolution was held back by insufficient intimacy, while Growlithe didn't need to evolve early.

The two unevolved Pokémon exchanged looks, feeling like one of their "original trio" was now out of reach.

Training the New Body

Kai turned to Blastoise and said, "Let's get you familiar with your new body. Scizor, help him train."

He didn't plan to challenge the Hengbin Gym that day, as Blastoise needed time to adjust to his new size and abilities. Blastoise had become much heavier than he was as Wartortle, and the addition of his water cannons would require practice.

"Blastoise, start by using the cannons on your shell. Scizor, use Double Team to create targets for him," Kai instructed.

"Zha!" Scizor nodded, creating multiple clones with Double Team.

"Kamei!" Blastoise adjusted the position of his water cannons and fired a series of water balls.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The water balls whistled through the air, splashing loudly upon hitting the ground. Even though it was just the Water Gun move, its power had doubled thanks to the cannons.

However, Blastoise's aim was off, and he missed Scizor's stationary clones.

"Kamei..." Blastoise scratched his head in embarrassment.

Kai reassured him. "Don't worry. You've just evolved, so it's normal to need practice. Keep going, and you'll get the hang of it."

Blastoise's training paid off within an hour. His accuracy improved significantly, and he even tested his Hydro Pump move. The results were impressive, showcasing the raw power of his evolution.

Physical Training

Next, Kai shifted focus to physical training. While Blastoise had gained immense strength and defense, his bulky frame made him less agile than before.

To compensate, Kai had him practice Rapid Spin to increase mobility. Fortunately, Blastoise had trained extensively with this move as a Squirtle and Wartortle, allowing him to adapt quickly.

By combining Rapid Spin with his new bulk, Blastoise developed a powerful defensive maneuver using water currents.

"Good work, everyone. Training's over for today," Kai announced at 4 PM.

While Blastoise's progress was impressive, Kai decided to spend two more days training before challenging the Hengbin Gym.

Two days later, Kai's team showed marked improvement:

Blastoise: LV36 → LV37

Exeggutor: LV26 → LV28

Scizor: LV30 → LV31

Golbat: LV25 → LV27

Alakazam: LV20 → LV23

Growlithe: LV12 → LV15

Growlithe progressed the fastest due to his lower starting level. Meanwhile, Pokémon above level 30 advanced more slowly, particularly Scizor. This disparity reminded Kai that a Pokémon's potential influenced its growth rate significantly.

With Blastoise now familiar with his new body and abilities, Kai felt confident in their chances against Yuku, the Hengbin Gym leader. Blastoise's evolution had not only increased his team's strength but also its versatility, making the upcoming gym battle one to look forward to.
