Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Auction

Low potential is Growlithe's primary weakness, but that doesn't matter much. By using a top-tier evolution stone, its potential can rise by one level.

Kai wasn't in a rush to evolve his Growlithe. After all, he hadn't even managed to train his Pidgeot and Rhydon fully, so there wasn't much benefit in evolving Growlithe prematurely.

"There's no real difference between Growlithe and Arcanine in terms of attack modes," Kai thought. "It's just that one is larger while the other is smaller. Evolving now wouldn't change its skills or moves."

Since it didn't make much of a difference, Kai decided to hold off on evolution. Instead, he preferred letting Growlithe improve its abilities naturally. This way, it could awaken its unique skills earlier.

After observing Growlithe's training session, Kai turned to check on the other Pokémon.

Exeggutor was practicing its mental strength alongside Alakazam. Both were equipped with Power Lenses to enhance their Psychic abilities during training. Without Lian's assistance, Alakazam's Confusion wasn't overly powerful, making it comparable to Exeggutor at its current level.

Wartortle trained with Golbat, each wearing a Macho Brace. Wartortle focused on improving its Water Gun precision, while Golbat practiced dodging, using the session to refine its speed and mobility.

All of Kai's Pokémon were training systematically. With time and effort, their levels would steadily improve.

"Sabrina, are you planning to buy any Pokémon at tomorrow's auction?" Kai asked casually, observing the progress of his team.

Sabrina shook her head. "The auction is for captured Pokémon. I'm not very interested. Alakazam is enough for me."

"That won't do," Kai replied. "Now that you're on a journey, you need to prepare a well-rounded team like any proper Trainer."

"What do you mean by a well-rounded team?" Sabrina asked, confused.

"Every Trainer should have Pokémon for land, sea, and air. In simple terms, you need a Pokémon that can swim in water, another that can travel on land, and one that can fly."

Kai elaborated, "Even though you can use Teleport, it only counts as land mobility. You don't have any Pokémon that can fly or swim, do you?"

After thinking about it, Sabrina nodded in agreement. "You're right. For safety reasons, I should consider capturing a Flying- or Water-type Pokémon."

"Exactly," Kai said with a grin. "Now, as a Psychic Trainer, you'll want Pokémon that match your specialty. For Water/Psychic types, you have a few options: Slowbro, Starmie, Bruxish, and Light Cod."

Sabrina frowned slightly. "I've heard of Slowbro and Starmie, but what are Bruxish and Light Cod?"

"Bruxish is a colorful fish Pokémon from the Alola Region," Kai explained. "It has tough teeth and can paralyze its prey with Confusion. It then uses its teeth to crush them—Shellder shells included."

He continued, "Light Cod, on the other hand, is native to the Padia Region. It has an incredible regeneration ability. If attacked, it can shed part of its body to escape. Its meat is considered a delicacy but is rare in the Kanto Region."

"Impressive," Sabrina admitted. "You know quite a lot for someone so young."

Kai smiled modestly. "I was raised by my grandfather, Professor Oak, so I've picked up a lot of knowledge about Pokémon."

"If you had to choose, which one would you pick?" Sabrina asked, curious.

"Definitely Slowbro," Kai replied without hesitation. "It has the potential to Mega Evolve, though Mega Evolution isn't common in Kanto yet."

Sabrina nodded thoughtfully. "Alright. I'll try to capture a Slowpoke then."

"What about Flying types?" Sabrina added. "What Psychic Pokémon can fly?"

"Not all Psychic Pokémon with flight capabilities need to be Flying types," Kai pointed out. "If you can manage it, try getting Beldum. It evolves into Metagross, which is powerful and can use Magnet Rise to hover."

"Metagross…" Sabrina whispered. She knew of it—one of the strongest Psychic-types, even considered a pseudo-legendary Pokémon. But capturing one would be a monumental task. Wild Metagross were rare and heavily protected in reserves.

"Don't stress too much about it," Kai said. "Your Confusion can help you fly for now."

"Psychic techniques can be exhausting if used too much," Sabrina reminded him. "Overusing them causes headaches and even mental strain."

"In that case, you might consider Sigilyph," Kai suggested. "Both are excellent Flying Psychic-types."

"I'll think about it," Sabrina said, deciding to focus on Slowpoke for the moment.

"There's a beach near Vermilion City where Slowpoke are known to gather," Kai said. "Want to check it out this afternoon?"

Sabrina nodded. "Sounds good."

Slowpoke tend to gather on beaches when they're ready to evolve. They use their tails to fish for Shellder, waiting for one to latch on and inject neurotoxin, triggering their evolution into Slowbro.

"I'll head there, but I'll only settle for a high-potential Slowpoke," Sabrina said.

"That's fair," Kai replied. "Let's see what you find this afternoon."
