Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Gary vs Sabrina

Gary stood across from Sabrina, his mind racing. He knew that little Stephanie, the girl sitting beside Sabrina, was the embodiment of innocence—yet, that innocence often led to frightening results. Children, after all, simply wanted to have fun and would do anything to entertain themselves, often without understanding the consequences.

"Hello, my name is Gary, from Pallet Town, and I'm here to challenge your gym," Gary said, trying to keep his composure.

Sabrina, who appeared to be deep in thought, suddenly spoke, her voice light. "Well, I can compete with you, but if you lose, you'll have to be my friend and stay to play with me."

Gary didn't think much of it. "No problem," he replied, already confident in his strategy. He had trained Scizor intensively for this moment, leveling him up to 30. It wasn't going to be easy, but Gary was determined to win.

At Gary's agreement, the curtain separating them rose, revealing the real scene behind it. Instead of sitting on a chair, little Stephanie was perched on the lap of a tall, long-haired woman—Sabrina herself.

Suddenly, the door behind Gary slammed shut with a loud bang. He didn't turn around; he knew it was Sabrina who had closed it.

Noticing Gary's calm demeanor, Sabrina raised an eyebrow. Most Trainers who challenged her were visibly nervous, but Gary seemed entirely unfazed. It intrigued her.

With a slight tilt of her head, Sabrina floated into the command area, defying gravity as she hovered into position. "One-on-one battle, no regrets. Do you understand?" she asked, her voice sharp and commanding.

"Understood," Gary replied, his expression focused.

Without wasting any more time, Sabrina raised her hand, and the Poké Ball held by the doll in her hand floated up before it dropped to the ground. "Come out, Abra," she called.

The Poké Ball cracked open, and a saffron-colored Abra appeared, its fox-like face tilted in curiosity. Despite being a notoriously lazy Pokémon, Abra could still move even while it rested, and this particular Abra was no ordinary one.

Gary's eyes narrowed as he assessed the situation. "A level 25 Abra with Elite potential," he muttered. It was strong, but it was still just a Psychic-type. Scizor had a clear advantage.

"Scizor, this is your first gym battle. Do your best," Gary ordered as he tossed Scizor's Poké Ball.

With a flash of red light, Scizor appeared, its shiny red armor gleaming. Sabrina's expression shifted to one of mild confusion, clearly unfamiliar with Scizor, a Pokémon she hadn't seen before.

Gary smirked. Sabrina had only recently started learning about Pokémon. Her expertise had mainly been in Psychic-type Pokémon, and it seemed like Scizor was a bit of an unknown to her.

"Use Fury Cutter!" Gary commanded.

Scizor rushed forward, its claws raised high. Sabrina's eyes glowed with psychic power, and so did Abra's. In an instant, Abra vanished in a flash of light, avoiding Scizor's attack with Teleport.

"Teleport is so troublesome," Gary muttered, frustrated. In real combat, Teleport was like a cheat move. It allowed Abra to avoid almost any attack. However, it consumed a lot of energy, and since Sabrina was using her psychic powers to assist Abra, it would be difficult to keep it up for too long.

Thinking quickly, Gary called out, "Use Double Team!"

Scizor's body blurred as multiple clones appeared, surrounding Abra. With no offensive moves of its own, Abra had no choice but to move. The clones of Scizor made it nearly impossible for Abra to choose a target without getting attacked.

Seeing Abra's predicament, Sabrina quickly intervened, feeding extra psychic energy into her Pokémon. Abra's body began to glow with a faint, shimmering light, and the clones disappeared as the battle intensified.

"Fury Cutter, now!" Gary ordered, seizing the opportunity.

Scizor moved like lightning, charging at the glowing Abra. Sabrina's concentration wavered for a split second, and that was all it took. Abra began to evolve into Kadabra—Yongjira—right in the midst of Scizor's attack.

The moment Scizor's claws made contact with the evolving Pokémon, the force of the blow sent the newly evolved Kadabra flying, crashing to the ground with a heavy thud.

"Jila!" Yongjira cried out in pain.

Despite its impressive evolution, Yongjira was fragile and had low physical defense. Fury Cutter's damage had been amplified by Scizor's Technician ability, making the attack much stronger than usual.

Sabrina quickly used her psychic powers to cushion some of the damage, but it wasn't enough to prevent her Pokémon from being knocked out cold.

Yongjira's eyes were swirling, and it lay still on the ground, unable to continue the battle.

"Not bad," Gary said, nodding in satisfaction.

Though Yongjira was powerful, its weak defense meant that Scizor could overpower it with relative ease. But Sabrina wasn't one to back down easily. She gritted her teeth and shouted, "Yongjira, stand up and use Recover!"

Yongjira's eyes glowed red once more, and its injuries began to heal before Gary's eyes, its wounds closing at a visible speed.

Gary's jaw dropped. "What the…?"

Sabrina's cheating was apparent. Instead of letting her Pokémon recover naturally or in a fair way, she used her psychic powers to accelerate the process, restoring her Pokémon's health in a way that wasn't allowed in a legitimate battle.

"Miss Sabrina, are you sure you didn't cheat?" Gary asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.

Sabrina merely shrugged, a mischievous smile on her face. "Yongjira recovered by itself. What does it have to do with me?" she said, feigning innocence.

Gary's eyes narrowed. "I see," he said, his voice calm but filled with unspoken challenge.

Meanwhile, in a hidden corner of the gym, Najun was watching the battle unfold on a hidden camera feed. "This Gary... he's good. He's managing to suppress Sabrina," he remarked with a tone of admiration.

But Gary was far from finished. He knew that if he didn't act quickly, Sabrina would turn the tide of battle once more. "Scizor, keep the pressure on!" he ordered.

Scizor continued its relentless assault, using Fury Cutter once again. Sabrina, still attempting to support her Pokémon, seemed flustered as the damage piled up.

"Zha!!" Scizor charged forward, landing another crushing blow. Yongjira was knocked back several meters, and this time, it stayed down.

Bang! Yongjira hit the floor with a loud crash, eyes swirling as it lost its ability to fight.

Gary let out a breath of relief. "That's one down."

Sabrina remained unfazed, though her calm demeanor couldn't hide the hint of frustration in her eyes. It was clear that she wasn't used to losing, and Gary knew the battle was far from over. With her psychic abilities and sheer unpredictability, Sabrina was always a formidable opponent.

But Gary wasn't backing down. The battle for the Saffron City Gym Badge was only just beginning.
