Unknowingly, time had already reached noon.
In the Sea Cave, where Sato and his team had been happily battling and training Pokémon, they decided to pause and enjoy their lunch on a relatively dry patch of ground.
Sato had entered the Sea Cave around 8 a.m., and over the course of more than three hours, his efforts had yielded substantial results.
Thanks to the ample supply of PokeBlocks he carried and the presence of his healer Pokémon, Bellossom, the battle endurance of Nidoran and Marshtomp was significantly prolonged.
After facing off against a large number of wild Pokémon, both Pokémon made remarkable progress.
Currently, Nidoran had reached level 25, while Marshtomp advanced to level 23.
It was worth noting that Chinchou, who had mostly been in the background during battles, managed to reach level 10 by frequently using Thunder Wave to assist.
With her recent learning of the Electric-type move Electro Ball, her contribution became somewhat more noticeable.
However, as Nidoran and Marshtomp's levels increased, the experience they gained from battling wild Pokémon in the area diminished significantly. The rate of their level progression slowed to a crawl.
Furthermore, with their growing reputation, even the more aggressive wild Pokémon in the area now chose to flee at the sight of Sato and his team.
After all, a name precedes its owner. Nidoran and Marshtomp had repeatedly triumphed over the wild Pokémon in the area, instilling fear in the local Pokémon population.
"Looks like we can't stay on the first route any longer. The wild Pokémon here are all avoiding us now," Sato thought with a hint of frustration as he observed the eerily quiet surroundings.
Currently, Sato was on the latter half of the first route. He had initially anticipated a warm "welcome" from the Staryu in this area.
However, it seemed their exploits in the earlier segments of the route had earned them a formidable reputation. Upon reaching the latter half, he could no longer find any Staryu in sight.
Using his system's detection ability, Sato knew that even if the Staryu were camouflaged with their natural colors, he would have spotted them.
Yet, not a single Staryu was present on the nearby walls or ground.
What he did notice, however, was a single Duskull attempting to remain hidden while peeking at them. Its glowing eyes were fixed hungrily on the Pokémon food in Nidoran and Marshtomp's dishes.
Among the food, Duskull seemed particularly fixated on Marshtomp's portion. The reason was obvious—Marshtomp, having recently evolved, had grown significantly larger and stronger.
Naturally, his appetite had increased as well.
The mountain of Pokémon food in his bowl was clearly tempting the Duskull.
Sato had replaced Marshtomp's previous dish with a larger food bowl due to his increased appetite.
Marshtomp now required at least seven cans of Pokémon food per meal to feel satisfied, making him an undisputed big eater.
Despite Marshtomp's immense appetite, Sato felt nothing but satisfaction. Marshtomp's strength after evolving had astounded him.
Unlike his Mudkip stage, when he relied on all fours to move, Marshtomp's freed-up hands now allowed him to fully wield his tremendous strength.
Armed with his raw power and the recently learned Ice Punch, Marshtomp could confidently take on groups of Corphish of similar level.
Most of the Corphish were sent flying with a single punch, their tough shells even showing cracks after the blows.
During the middle section of the first route, Nidoran rarely had to take the lead. Marshtomp dominated, and even the aggressive Corphish and Kingler in the area were subdued by his iron fists.
As Marshtomp finished the last bit of food in his oversized bowl, the drooling Duskull didn't dare approach to steal any. After receiving a sharp glare from Golbat, it scurried away in defeat.
After a brief post-lunch rest, Sato set out again with his Pokémon. Instead of leaving the latter half of the route immediately, he decided to continue onward.
Listening patiently to the elder's stories had proven fruitful. Based on one of the tales, the end of the first route led to a series of water pools.
One of these pools was said to connect to a mysterious cave within the Sea Cave.
Unfortunately, when the elder mentioned this mysterious cave, he abruptly changed the subject. Despite Sato's efforts to pry for more details later, the elder avoided the topic and refused to elaborate.
Noticing this anomaly, Sato quickly deduced that the elder had accidentally revealed more than he intended. To avoid pushing further, Sato dropped the subject.
Now, driven by his curiosity, Sato smoothly made his way to the end of the first route. A series of water pools, varying in size, appeared before him.
After a quick count, Sato noted that there were 15 pools in total. However, since the elder hadn't specified which pool connected to the mysterious cave, Sato felt a headache coming on.
Using trial and error to explore each pool would likely take several hours.
It was already 12:35 p.m., leaving him with just over four hours to remain in the area. He didn't have the luxury of spending so much time here.
As Sato contemplated turning back, movement in one of the pools caught his attention. Bubbles rose to the surface, as though something was about to emerge.
Moments later, a blue head surfaced from the water, followed by a Lapras carrying six children on its back.
However, Sato's expression quickly turned grim. The Lapras was severely injured, with deep wounds across its body. As soon as it surfaced, it seemed to run out of strength and fainted.
Among the six children on Lapras's back, five were unconscious and visibly injured.
The remaining conscious child was AJ, whom Sato had battled earlier. AJ's face was pale, with small purple spots on his skin and bluish lips—a clear sign of poisoning.
"AJ! What on earth happened? And where is your teacher, Elsa?" Sato hurried over upon recognizing AJ and released Bellossom to treat their injuries.
Under Bellossom's Grassy Terrain, the poison in AJ's system was quickly neutralized, and his complexion regained some color.
"You… You're Mr. Sato! Please, hurry and save Miss Elsa! She's fighting three bad people right now. They're really strong and despicable, and she's no match for them. Lapras isn't by her side anymore because she used it to get us out of there," AJ cried out desperately, his consciousness now fully restored.
