Pokemon: The Legacy of Dragons

Chapter 111: Electric Judgement at Sea

"You punk, I should be asking you—what the hell are you looking at!?"

Lt. Surge roared, veins bulging with fury. All three trainers were running hot with rage now. Then, Logan caught the sound of a Gabite shrieking in agony.

That sneaky Raichu, missing in action until now, had struck from the shadows—its tail as sharp and fast as a javelin, piercing Gabite's hide and drawing a spray of blood.

But pain only made Gabite more vicious.

With a feral snarl, it slashed at Raichu using Dragon Claw, sending blood flying. Raichu, trembling, clenched its teeth and unleashed a surge of pent-up electricity in a last-ditch effort.

The surge was apocalyptic. White-hot lightning tore through steel, vaporizing everything in its path.

Both Gabite and Logan—standing right behind it—were blasted backward by the sheer voltage, crashing into the ship's rear cabin. Logan felt like his spine had been crushed by a lightning strike, his lungs lit on fire. Gabite wasn't faring any better, writhing in pain, covered in arcs of residual electricity.

Still conscious despite the impact, Logan grit his teeth and issued a calm order.

"Dragon Tail, Dratini!"

It was the only Pokémon still capable of movement. Dratini spun and lashed its tail across Raichu, launching its chubby body into the air like a baseball.

Surge Oak didn't dare hesitate again. He darted to Raichu's side, reconnecting with it immediately. Without his Pokémon, it was far too dangerous to act alone.

"You okay, Caitlin!?"

Logan had instinctively thrown himself over Caitlin to shield her. His body screamed in agony—his organs felt scorched—but he endured it. Under his protection, Caitlin had only suffered a few cuts and bruises.

She shook her head frantically, tears threatening to spill. She bit her lip, eyes red, clinging to Logan as though her life depended on it.

Burying her flawless face in his shoulder, her body trembled. For the first time, she knew what it meant to be desperately protected by someone.

"Careful—Surge's coming back!"

Logan gave Caitlin a quick tap on the backside—reflexively giving it a little squeeze.

"Eep—!"

She gasped, her moan involuntary, the sound enough to nearly make Logan lose control. But the pain in his body snapped him back to reality.

This wasn't a proper Gym challenge. There were no rules. Any Pokémon could be used. And right now, Surge had just released a Magnezone, and it was charging toward them.

Mid-flight, Magnezone suddenly split into three—becoming three individual Magnemite.

"Magnezone is literally three Magnemite combined. Maybe others can't do it, but mine can fuse and separate anytime!"

Surge's coughing was fierce, but his voice remained loud—radiating the pride of Kanto's top Electric-type Gym Leader.

CRACK!

Three Vine Whips whipped through the air from afar, snatching the Magnemite mid-flight. Red was on one knee, skin singed and reeking of ozone. Beside him, Poliwrath had already fallen after landing a mighty blow on Electabuzz. Pikachu, outmatched in this Electric-vs-Electric clash, was down too.

Only Ivysaur remained.

"Logan—now!"

Logan reacted instantly. "Dratini, go all out—Flamethrower!"

Gabite had taken too much damage—it had to conserve energy. That left Dratini as his only card to play.

"Draa~~!"

Dratini's eyes flared with resolve. It summoned every last ember in its being and exhaled a massive, burning inferno.

BOOM—

It was like World War III. A colossal Flamethrower in the shape of the kanji '大' burst upward, igniting the black sky into blazing orange. From a distance, it looked like a holy beam of fire piercing the heavens. The heat scorched everything within hundreds of meters. Even the thick clouds overhead turned to a fiery red.

The metal hull of the ship began to melt.

Magnezone, being Steel-type, stood no chance. It was reduced to a pile of slag.

"Flamethrower!? That thing can use that!?"

Surge shielded his face as the heat blistered his skin. He cursed under his breath—every single one of Logan's Pokémon felt like a freak of nature.

Dratini collapsed after the attack, coughing violently. Its pale Surge body began to tremble… and stretch…

ROOOOOAR—

A dragon's roar shattered the sky. Thunder rolled, and the clouds darkened once more. Lightning slashed down as a torrential downpour soaked the sea, the ship, and everyone onboard.

From within the storm emerged a newly evolved Dragonair, its elegant, serpentine body nearly ten meters long, hovering mid-air like a divine being.

"Beautiful… a perfect evolution!" Logan's eyes shone with joy.

In ancient times, Dragonair's orbs were believed to control the weather—worshipped as deities of wind and rain. Unlike its final evolution Dragonite, which sacrificed mystical abilities for brute strength, Dragonair retained its divine talents.

Even Lance chose not to evolve his two Dragonair, keeping them for their unique powers.

"Another evolution!?"

Surge was losing it. First Poliwrath, now Dragonair—was he just here to give Logan EXP?

"Electabuzz—attack!!"

Electabuzz, who'd been KO'd earlier, suddenly leapt from a hole in the deck and lunged at Logan like a comet.

BAM—

Gabite shielded Logan with its own body. Blood still seeped from its Raichu-inflicted wounds, but it met Electabuzz's punch head-on with a brutal Dragon Claw.

"Earth Throw!!"

Surge and Electabuzz yelled in sync. Electabuzz's muscles bulged as it grappled Gabite and hurled it high into the air—prepping for a devastating follow-up.

But just as it readied the second slam—its feet froze.

"What the hell?!"

Surge's eyes widened. Electabuzz's legs had been frozen solid. Rain hammered the ruined deck, and he noticed nearby: Red's battered Poliwrath was subtly channeling icy energy through its fingertips.

"The rain pooled on the deck… and that damn frog used Ice Punch to freeze it!"

Too late.

"This height is perfect—for Dragon Dive!"

Logan's eyes gleamed as he swung his hand down.

Gabite, flung high into the sky, adjusted mid-air—then dove.

A blazing meteor shot from the heavens.

"You little—!!"

Surge's scream was drowned out as Electabuzz took the full force of Gabite's meteor dive, smashing through the ship's deck like a missile, tearing it nearly in half.

The deck collapsed. Surge and Raichu plummeted into the cargo hold.

Above, Logan and Red shouted together:

"Pikachu!"

"Dragonair!"

"Thunderbolt!!"

Twin bolts of divine lightning crashed down into the cargo hold.

"I won't lose to electricity—I'm the Electric master, dammit!"

Surge prepared to laugh off the attack… until he saw it.

The hold was packed with Voltorb and Electrode—Rocket traps meant to kill someone else.

But now… they were his tomb.

The Thunderbolt wasn't aimed at him—it was aimed at them.

"NOOOOO—"

BOOOOOOOOM!

It was like a ton of TNT went off. A mushroom cloud of smoke burst into the sky. The sea exploded with monstrous waves.

And the world's largest luxury cruise liner began to break apart under the pressure.
