Chapter 67: Rare Treasure: Latias' Reverse Scale!

In the City of Water, Latias and Latios are guardians tasked with maintaining peace. Every so often, they rotate responsibilities and replenish the Soul Dew, the source of their power.

During this time, they become more vulnerable.

Latias still couldn't understand why she had fled that day after being caught sketching. Maybe it was embarrassment? The shame of being caught red-handed drawing someone had overwhelmed her, causing her to flee.

Ever since then, she had been secretly observing Hikaru from the skies. Watching him and his Pokémon face one formidable opponent after another had stirred her emotions.

Even though she wasn't physically involved, she felt like she was living the battles herself.

"Here's your drawing back," Hikaru said gently, offering her the sketch she had left behind. "It's really well done."

Latias, disguised as a human girl, cautiously accepted the sketch. She couldn't believe she had it back.

Her passion for sketching had driven her to capture the beauty of the Water City, recording its scenery and moments.

"What's your name?" Hikaru asked.

Latias hesitated for a moment, her voice ethereal but unsure.

"Hmm…"

With his Aura, Hikaru could understand her intentions even though she struggled to speak.

"Dira?" he guessed.

She nodded slightly.

"Alright, Dira." Hikaru smiled and took out a Psychic-type energy cube, handing it to Kirlia. As he patted Kirlia's head, it purred with contentment.

[Joy Conversion]

Hikaru used the golden trait to its fullest. Each of his Pokémon found joy in different ways—Frogadier loved showing off, Kirlia enjoyed affectionate gestures, and both Charmeleon and Riolu thrived in battle and training.

This trait brought Hikaru 30-50 trait points daily.

Latias, sensing the enticing aroma of the energy cube, stared longingly at it.

"Hmm? You want one too?" Hikaru asked, noticing her interest.

Latias nodded shyly, using a touch of her psychic energy to gesture.

"You're a Psychic-type?" Hikaru was surprised by the subtle display of power.

Latias nodded again, affirming his observation.

"Alright then, here you go." Hikaru handed her an energy cube.

Latias eagerly accepted it. The taste and energy were unlike anything she had ever encountered, reinvigorating her body and spirit.

The Soul Dew required replenishment soon, and Latias knew she'd be left weakened afterward. These energy cubes could significantly speed up her recovery.

Her decision was made.

Once her task with the Soul Dew was complete, she would follow this human. For now, she had to plan her approach.

---

"Here," Latias said telepathically, revealing a shimmering red scale.

Hikaru froze, staring at the scale in disbelief before instinctively taking it.

[Latias' Reverse Scale – S+ Tier Treasure]

"A scale shed by Latias, this treasure enhances the special attack of Psychic or Dragon-type Pokémon by 20% (Elite) to 30% (Champion)."

"This... This is too valuable," Hikaru stammered, overwhelmed.

Latias! A Legendary Pokémon! And this was one of her most precious Reverse Scales.

A treasure like this, capable of such massive power boosts, was practically priceless. It was akin to the Soul Feathers left behind by Articuno during its molting season—rare and irreplaceable.

Latias tilted her head, communicating telepathically. "It's an exchange—for more food!"

"Just for some energy cubes?" Hikaru asked incredulously.

Latias nodded earnestly. "Not just some—I want a lot!"

Her childlike sincerity caught Hikaru off guard. She even leaned closer to emphasize her request.

Feeling a bit flustered, Hikaru took a step back and looked at Kirlia for help. But Kirlia, busy finishing its energy cube, could only offer a shrug.

"Alright," Hikaru relented, sighing. "Give me your contact information. Whenever you need energy cubes, just come find me."

Latias beamed. "Yay! Unlimited snacks!"

And with that, she disappeared into thin air using Teleport.

Hikaru blinked, stunned. "What just happened?"

Why did it feel like he had been conversing with a Pokémon rather than a human?

---

They often said Psychic-types had quirky personalities. The infamous Sabrina had turned people into dolls in her quest for companionship.

Could this girl be the same?

Hikaru glanced at the Reverse Scale in his hand. Deciding to make the most of it, he removed the Mind Band from Kirlia and replaced it with the Reverse Scale.

Kirlia tilted her head curiously, sensing a surge of energy coursing through her.

Hikaru explained the Scale's effects, leaving Kirlia slightly guilty for not saving some energy cubes earlier.

"It's fine," Hikaru reassured her. "If she really wants more, I'm sure she'll find me again. I'll just prepare extra cubes next time."

Making energy cubes wasn't difficult, though Psychic-type ingredients were quite costly.

It was worth it, though. Treasures like this Reverse Scale were priceless.

---

"Everyone ready?" Hikaru asked.

"Frogadier!"

"Riolu!"

The biggest beneficiary of this tournament was undoubtedly Riolu.

Riolu's growth was astounding.

"I almost forgot to check today's trait!" Hikaru exclaimed.

What would the new day bring?
