Chapter 9: 9
"Ah!! What is he doing?" one of the staff members exclaimed in surprise as they watched.
"I… I think he's trying to use the jungle terrain to his advantage! Although Fearow is fast, it's large, and its ability to maneuver through the jungle will be greatly hindered," another staff member said, pinching his chin as he thought.
"This is too chaotic! I'll follow him, you take Stephanie back to the camp!" the first staff member said, clearly worried.
"No… no, I'm going too!" Ser Lena shouted firmly. Despite still being scared, she was even more worried about Ash.
The two staff members exchanged glances, then nodded. One squatted down and placed Ser Lena on his back, and the two quickly followed into the forest.

Ash in the Forest
Ash entered the forest with the two Growlithes. They ran forward, and Ash turned to look behind them. Fearow was in front, and the Spearows were behind, but their speed had slowed considerably due to the dense forest.
Nevertheless, Fearow was still fast. After all, this was its home field, and it wouldn't take long for it to catch up. The Spearows, being more agile, were also catching up quickly.
"This is fine," Ash muttered. He hadn't expected Ember to defeat Fearow. Its purpose was to distract Fearow and draw its attention. Fearow wouldn't let them off easily.
The Fire-type move didn't have any particular advantage over Flying or Normal types, so it was unrealistic for the low-level Growlithe to defeat Fearow directly. Ash had to use other tactics.
Hum!
While they ran, Fearow seemed to realize that the terrain wasn't favorable and began charging up energy in its beak. Ash heard the sound and turned to look. The destructive light had already locked onto them.
Boom!!
"Split up!" Ash shouted immediately.
The two Growlithes, seemingly in perfect sync with Ash, separated to the left and right without hesitation. Ash himself slowed down and dove to the ground. The destructive light blasted overhead.
The tremendous force of the blast sent trees crashing down in front of them, and the ground beneath them trembled. Ash quickly got up and kept running forward.
"Now, Growlithe, use Flame Wheel!"
As Ash continued running, he called out instructions to the two Growlithes. The Growlithes understood immediately and changed direction, running ahead. They opened their mouths, and flames burst out, rolling their bodies forward.
The flames surrounded them, forming two fiery wheels as they rolled toward Fearow.
"Let's go!!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!!
The Growlithes didn't need any further instructions. It seemed that, through some unspoken connection, Ash's thoughts and their actions were perfectly in sync. They rolled forward, crashing into the trees on either side with the force of the flames.
With the power of the Flame Wheel, the trees on both sides began to fall. Ash followed closely behind, weaving through the collapsing trunks as Fearow also caught up.
Despite its strength, Fearow was slower in this terrain. The destruction from its own Hyper Beam attack had left it less mobile.
As Ash dashed forward, he avoided several falling trees. Fearow was trying to follow but was hindered by the obstacles.
Bang! Bang! Bang!!
Five or six trees crashed down on either side simultaneously, and as Fearow charged forward, the trees fell on it. There was a loud, heavy thud, and the area was filled with smoke.
The Spearows, trailing behind, stopped in midair, confused. Without their leader, they hovered uncertainly, unsure of what to do.
---
Ash's Victory
"Great job!" Ash exclaimed, quickly getting back on his feet. The two Growlithes ran up to him, their tails wagging in excitement. Ash looked at the fallen trees and smiled, exhilarated.
This was his first time commanding Pokémon in a real battle, and the excitement surged in his chest. His heart was racing.
Woof!
The two Growlithes barked happily, their excitement matching Ash's.
"Don't get careless, though," Ash said, shaking his head. "Fearow might not be done yet. We need to seize this chance."
The two Growlithes turned to face the wreckage, their eyes narrowing. From the ruins, a loud noise suddenly erupted.
Boom!
An immense force was unleashed, and a purple beam shot up into the sky, piercing through the canopy of the forest.
"It's coming!" Ash clenched his fists in anticipation.
---
Fearow's Return
"Wha—what is that?!" one of the staff members exclaimed, staring at the destructive light rising into the sky.
The other staff members, including Ser Lena, also saw the blast, and they quickly rushed toward the source of the explosion.
Caw!!
The destructive light had obliterated the remains of the fallen trees, and Fearow emerged from the wreckage, flapping its wings. Despite visible injuries, the bird was enraged.
"It's now! Use Flame Vortex!!" Ash said, seizing the moment.
Woof!
Boom!!
The two Growlithes launched their Flame Vortex attacks simultaneously. The flames collided and merged into a swirling vortex that barreled toward Fearow.
Although the Flame Vortex wasn't as powerful as Flamethrower, the combined force of both Growlithes was more than enough to challenge Fearow. The vortex roared toward the bird like a dragon made of fire.
