Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 743: Venom Pearl

"Let the Adder family come in first," Evelyn said.

The Cavendish family head nodded and then walked out. Even though he was the patriarch, many major decisions in the family still had to be made by Evelyn.

"What is the Adder family here for?" Julian asked curiously.

"Lance is almost at the age to get married. The Adder family happens to have a suitable daughter of marriageable age."

'Lance?'

Julian remembered that this guy seemed to be the youngest son of the Cavendish family head. If he recalled correctly, Lance was even a year or two younger than him.

And he was already getting married?

Was Grandma subtly implying something?

So Julian cautiously glanced at his grandmother.

"It's an engagement first. They'll marry after Lance graduates."

Evelyn noticed Julian's subtle reaction and knew exactly what this kid was overthinking. She gently tapped his head and said, "My dear grandson is a prodigy—it's better for him to marry later. Lance has average talent, so it's best for him to contribute to the family early."

Even though Lance was a top student at Modu Academy, in Grandma's eyes, he was just "average."

For great clans to last, strength alone was not enough. Alliances were equally important.

And no alliance was stronger than one forged through marriage.

So it was very common for great families to marry among themselves.

If this were the feudal era, even princesses would be married off to the sons of ministers or to royalty of other nations.

The Walker family was no exception.

For example, Julian's grandfather and father.

However, whether it was John or Jake, they both loved their wives deeply. Of course, John's marriage was now facing its own problems.

The Adder family was a truly great clan, while the Cavendish family, though also considered a major family, was currently at the bottom in terms of strength.

If not for the Walker family backing them, many other families would have already tried to swallow them whole.

In another ten years, if the Cavendish family failed to produce a powerhouse to hold their banner, then even with the Walker family backing them, they would be forced out of the ranks of the great clans.

Just then, the Cavendish family head led the Adder family members inside.

"Julian?"

A rather surprised voice rang out.

Julian turned and saw a handsome young man with sharp brows, looking at him in surprise.

"Mason."

Julian was also quite surprised to see him.

He had just been telling Evelyn that he knew Mason of the Adder family, and then this guy suddenly appeared right in front of him. That was quite the coincidence.

Standing beside Mason was a woman who bore some resemblance to him. She was looking at Julian with admiration and curiosity.

"Grandma, this is the person I was just talking about," Julian said.

Then he said to Mason, "This is my grandmother."

Mason immediately bowed respectfully to Evelyn as a junior would: "Greetings, Elder Cavendish."

He was well aware of the Cavendish family's situation and naturally understood the relationship between the Walkers and the Cavendish family. He just hadn't expected Julian to be here today.

Although he and Julian were classmates, after their freshman year they rarely met. By sophomore year, Julian almost never returned to university.

Even on the rare occasions when he did, he didn't attend classes—he was always busy elsewhere.

Mason recalled that the last time he'd seen Julian was over a year ago.

Both were students in the Special Recruitment Class, but now Julian was already a Pseudo-Champion trainer and the National Steel-type Gym Leader, while he himself was still only at the peak of pseudo-Elite. The gap was enormous.

"Mm, quite talented—as expected of my dear grandson's classmate," Evelyn nodded in approval.

Mason: 'Is she praising me, or is she praising her grandson?'

"And this must be Sarah," Evelyn said, turning her gaze to the woman beside Mason.

"Yes, she is my younger sister," Mason nodded.

The Adder family had brought ten people in total. Besides Mason and Sarah, the other eight included their parents and six elders from the Adder family.

After all, this was the first alliance through marriage between the Adders and Cavendishs, so both sides took it very seriously. That was why the Adder family had sent such high-profile representatives.

"Grandma, I'll leave you to discuss matters. I'll take a walk outside," Julian said.

There was no point in him staying in such a setting—it would only make him uncomfortable.

Then he walked up to Mason and said, "Let's take a walk together."

"Sure," Mason nodded.

As Julian and Mason left, the doors were closed behind them.

What followed was the discussion of the marriage alliance between the Cavendishs and Adders, along with negotiations over the interests of both clans.

"So, which secret realm did you go to this time?" Mason asked as they walked through the Cavendish family estate.

"Not a secret realm, a ruin," Julian replied.

"Find anything good?" Mason asked curiously.

Ruins were far more valuable than Secret Realms. Even for someone like him, a direct descendant of a major family, gaining access to Ruin was no simple matter.

"A peak Pseudo-Champion Milotic—does that count?" Julian said with a smile.

"Damn!"

Mason couldn't help but swear.

If that didn't count, then what could?

Even though he knew Julian's primary type was Steel and his secondary type was Dragon, Milotic was an extremely rare Pokémon, and this one was already at peak Pseudo-Champion level.

No matter the type, as long as a trainer had the strength to defeat it, they would definitely choose to capture it.

"To be given a permit to capture a ruin Pokémon… really makes me jealous," Mason said.

Julian paused for a moment, then simply smiled without explaining.

Whether it was a Ruin or a Secret Realm, as long as the Pokémon was above Elite-level, without an official capture permit, you absolutely could not catch it.

Otherwise, the Advanced-level secret realms would have long been emptied of every Elite Pokémon.

Since Julian had entered a newly discovered Ruin, there were no capture permits yet. However, now that the Ruin had been officially registered by Drakoria, once the strength of the Pokémon inside was fully assessed, a list of prohibited captures would be released.

"How about it? Want to have a battle?"

Mason pointed at the nearby battlefield.

"Sure," Julian nodded.

Five minutes later, Mason's ace Pokémon, a peak pseudo-Elite Arbok, was defeated by Julian's mid-stage pseudo-Elite Garchomp.

And this was with Julian holding back—otherwise, it wouldn't have taken even two minutes to defeat the Arbok.

"You're really a monster," Mason muttered under his breath as he recalled his Arbok.

Even going all out, his Arbok hadn't been able to leave a single scratch on the Garchomp.

"Here, take this."

Julian tossed something to Mason.

Mason caught it on reflex. Looking closely, his eyes widened in shock. "A Venom Pearl!"

As a member of a Poison-type specialist family, Mason was naturally well-versed in Poison-type treasures.

Poison Pearls were the Ultimate Poison-type treasures, extremely rare—so much so that the Adder family had only ever obtained one in their entire history.

Venom Pearls were the next best thing, and the Adder family hadn't encountered one in decades.

He never expected Julian to just casually hand him a sub-Ultimate treasure.

The Venom Pearl was one of the items Mew had given Julian in that pile of treasures. Gengar had turned up its nose at this sub-Ultimate treasure, so Julian had kept it.

Gengar: 'Since when has my standards fallen so low? If it's not an Ultimate treasure, it doesn't deserve a place in my stomach.'
