Chapter 258: The Blessing of the North Wind
"Ka-kaah?"
Gengar scratched its head while holding the flying phone it had just grabbed. A flying phone? And... it made Pokémon-like noises?
Click!
The phone's screen lit up, displaying a photo of Gengar flashing a toothy grin and making a peace sign.
"Loto?"
The phone's voice sounded puzzled.
Not one to be outdone, the "phone" began flying in circles around Gengar, repeatedly flashing its camera. Yet, no matter where the phone moved, Gengar always seemed to strike a pose for the perfect shot—whether it was wearing sunglasses, pulling goofy faces, or casually juggling a small Dusk Stone.
"Loto?! ∑(O_O;)"
Was it haunted?
Desperate to reclaim control, the "phone" darted back and forth, capturing new angles. It eventually managed to snag a few photos of Gengar's back. But when the phone reviewed the images, every shot still somehow featured Gengar prominently in the center.
"Loto?!"
It was dumbfounded. How could every picture still have Gengar as the star?
But Gengar was starting to lose its patience. Its round face puffed up like a Jigglypuff about to burst. With a sly grin, it summoned several Shadow Balls that hovered menacingly around its body.
"L-Loto!"
The phone froze mid-air, trembling in fear. It had no choice but to surrender.
Relieved, Gengar let the Shadow Balls dissolve and turned its attention back to the phone. It deftly swiped through the photos, deleting the ones it didn't like while making approving noises for the ones it did.
"Ka-kaah!"
Satisfied, Gengar handed the phone back with a cheeky grin.
"Bzzt... Loto."
The phone vibrated slightly before transforming. Its glowing orange plasma body emerged, revealing the true form of the mischievous Rotom.
"Ka-kaah?"
Gengar tilted its head. A Pokémon disguised as a phone? How peculiar.
Elsewhere, the fight against the Pokémon hunters was winding down. Ninetales sealed the two hunters in a thick layer of ice, while Zapdos directed its remaining energy toward aiding the weakened Electric Pokémon in the factory.
Zapdos's powerful electricity revitalized the captured Pokémon, allowing them to regain their mobility.
Watching this act of selflessness, Johan felt a wave of respect for Zapdos. Even in its weakened state, it prioritized helping others over its own recovery.
Taking out a Max Revive and some Energy Roots, Johan approached Zapdos.
"Here, this will help you recover faster."
"Caw!"
Zapdos gave him a grateful look, spreading its wings as it absorbed the energy from Johan's gifts. With a nod of acknowledgment, it soared into the sky.
As it disappeared into the clouds, a golden feather slowly spiraled down from above, landing gently in Johan's hand.
Johan examined the golden plume with a strange expression.
With the Rainbow Wing, Articuno's feather, and now Zapdos's feather in his possession... all he needed was Moltres's feather and the Silver Wing to complete a legendary collection.
Maybe he should consider opening a feather-themed gift shop?
Carefully tucking the golden feather next to the Rainbow Wing, Johan turned back toward his Pokémon. Before he could relax, Suicune appeared once again, stepping lightly onto the scene.
"Suicune," Chrysa whispered, awe-struck.
Its majestic presence brought an eerie stillness to the surroundings. Johan, however, crossed his arms and gave it a skeptical look.
"Did you enjoy the show?" he asked dryly.
The North Wind Pokémon coughed awkwardly and avoided his gaze. Instead, it turned to Ninetales.
A gentle gust of wind swirled around the Fox Pokémon, carrying with it an ethereal sense of peace.
"Blessing of the North Wind," Professor Cerise observed. "It seems Suicune has acknowledged both you and Ninetales."
"North Wind's Blessing?" Johan raised an eyebrow. "And what does that do?"
"Perhaps it strengthens wind-based moves like Blizzard?" Professor Cerise speculated.
Chrysa added, "I've read legends suggesting that Suicune's blessings can also enhance moves like Aurora Veil."
Johan looked at Ninetales thoughtfully. With this blessing, its control over snow and wind might become even more formidable.
Ninetales approached him with its luminous blue eyes gleaming and stretched languidly. It appeared to struggle with its new size but seemed eager to stay close to its trainer.
Laughing, Johan knelt to embrace it, running his hand through its silky fur. The icy chill radiating from its body was already starting to make him shiver, but he endured it with a smile.
"Guess I'll have to invest in warmer clothes," Johan muttered under his breath.
Suddenly, from the corner of his vision, a long crimson tongue darted toward his cheek.
"Ka-kaah!"
Gengar had taken the opportunity to lick him, its mischievous grin as wide as ever. The combined chill from Ninetales and Gengar's Lick attack left Johan momentarily frozen in place, his face stiff with frost.
"Great teamwork," Johan groaned, fumbling for a Cheri Berry and a Rawst Berry.
"Johan," Professor Cerise said, stepping forward with a smile. "You've helped us more than I can express. Truly, thank you."
"You don't need to thank me—" Johan began, only to be interrupted.
"As thanks," Professor Cerise continued, "how about I lend you some help for your journey? It seems you're preparing for the Indigo League, but I noticed you only have five Pokémon."
Johan stiffened slightly.
"As a gesture of gratitude—"
"No, no need!" Johan quickly waved his hands in refusal, worried Professor Cerise might try to hand him an overly complicated lab assistant.
But Professor Cerise smiled knowingly.
"I was actually talking about a helper to make catching Pokémon easier... Where did it go, though?"
He began scanning the area.
"Rotom?"
"Bzzt—Loto!"
Rotom's voice emerged from behind Gengar, who was already holding it upside down, inspecting it curiously.
