Chapter 53: Chapter 53 - Extra T-Shirts and Pens
Later at night, while Jonathan was still working in the inn, Rico was journaling about his day and accomplishment in his personal journal. His Pokémon team was playing around the room, but they were careful not to break anything, otherwise, Rico had to pay for it.
As he writes with his blue pen, Rico thought to himself, "Man, today, I was so lucky at that gym battle. Despite Flareon's resistance against Water Gun, it couldn't handle Piplup's Bubble Beam. I wonder if one of my Pokémon could evolve into its second or final evolved form…"
Then, suddenly, his phone rang. It was his mother, Rosario. Upon noticing that, Rico picked it up and answered, "Hello, mom?"
"Hi, sweetie," Rosario responded back. "How's your day in Labuyo Town?"
"Oh, um, today was great," Rico replied back. "I won against Kale the Fire-type gym leader, and he gave me the gym badge."
"Wow, congratulations, Rico. That was so fast."
"Yeah, but still, I have a long way to go. I'll continue exploring around Philas."
"Okay, honey, it's your choice after all."
"Thanks, mom. By the way, how's Shion?"
"Well, from what I heard from her parents, she's currently on a ferry to Bukas Town."
"I see. Well, she's gonna be shocked to see that I had the second badge."
"I'm sure she would."
"Well, good night."
"Good night and be safe out there."
Rico and Rosario then ended their conversation.
The next day was Jonathan's last day at the inn, meaning that he'll quit his job as an inn staff member and farmer and go around the region as Rico's travel companion. The innkeeper allowed him to work on his last day at the inn until before lunch time before letting him go. Rico and his team, meanwhile, are at the forest doing their daily training.
At 11:22 a.m., Jonathan's work at the inn was over and he packed up his backpack and left the inn with Rico, who had also packed up his backpack and checked out at the inn. The innkeeper and the other staff members are happy to see that Rico and Jonathan, both once-separated brothers, had reunited to make up for the lost time they had. They didn't throw a farewell party for Jonathan because Jonathan doesn't want it, but they respected his decision.
Later, at the mall, Rico and Jonathan are the department store choosing some t-shirts with designs symbolizing Labuyo Town in cheap prices. They make sure that those t-shirts are the right size for them. After much trial and error, with the help of a saleswoman, they finally found the right sizes for them. They'll be using it as extra clothes for the journey.
Shortly thereafter, they went to the stationery section to pick up some pens and notebooks for Rico's paper documentary of their travels. At the said section, Rico was looking at the various pencils and pens in various colors, types, and tip sizes while Jonathan was waiting for him.
"Wow, a small town like this had a great selection of these things," Rico thought to himself.
After a couple of seconds, Rico eventually get two, different packs of pencils and pens and tossed them into the shopping basket. After that, they proceeded at an aisle full of notebooks. There, Rico immediately get a spiral-bound notebook in A5 size, sky blue, and with a thick plastic cover included in the notebook itself, and tossed it into the shopping basket. After that, he said to Jonathan, "Let's go, big brother, let's go to the cashiers."
Jonathan then nodded in agreement, and he and Rico, alongside their Pokémon teams, went to the cashiers to pay for their purchases. At the cashiers, one of the cashiers scanned their purchases one by one for their prices, and after that, she told them that the total price was 750 Poké Dollars. In response to that, Rico and Jonathan get their wallets, get some bank notes, and give it to the cashier. Receiving the money, the cashier placed them into the cash register, print the receipt, and placed their purchases into a big paper bag. She then ripped the receipt clean, and stapled it on the paper bag, before giving it to the duo while saying with a smile, "Thanks for shopping."
Receiving the paper bag, Jonathan replied to her, "Thank you so much."
He, Rico, and their Pokémon teams then left the department store, and went downstairs to a restaurant to eat lunch.
Not long after, at the same restaurant where they had lunch before, while eating their spicy meal, they talked about their parents.
"They're fine," Rico responded to Jonathan's question. "Dad is in good health. Same goes to mom."
"Thanks, but don't tell them about our reunion, okay?" Jonathan replied with a condition.
"That's what I'm going to do," Rico replied back. "I promised."
"Good." He then resumed eating his Yellow Curry with rice.
Rico then resumed eating as well while their Pokémon are eating their special food nearby.
