Then, the second round of the battle had begun.

"Flareon, use Incinerate!" Kale seriously commanded Flareon.

Flareon then used Incinerate, attacking Piplup with fire.

"Quickly, dodge it!" Rico commanded Piplup immediately.

Piplup then dodged Flareon's attack, and Rico commanded it, "Then use Water Gun!"

Piplup then opened its beak and used Water Gun, blasting Flareon with a forceful shot of water, striking it with effective.

As a result, Flareon was wet, but it shook off the water out of its body.

"Wait, what?" Rico responded to this.

"Ha! Flareon had been training to handle being wet," Kale explained to him, "so using Water Gun wasn't enough." Then to Flareon, "Flareon, quickly, use Fire Blast!"

Flareon then used Fire Blast, attacking Piplup with an intense blast of all-consuming fire, striking it power, but not totally effective.

Piplup then collapsed to the ground in pain, but it got up, determining not to give up.

"Are you okay, Piplup?" Rico asked it.

Piplup then responded with pain while getting up.

"What? Impossible!" Kale commented. "That Fire Blast was powerful!"

"Well, me and Piplup had been training prior to my journey," Rico explained in response with cool confidence.

Hearing that, Jonathan thought, "Wow, Rico must be using a strategy…."

In time, Piplup managed to stand up on the ground.

"Quickly, Piplup, use Bubble Beam!" Rico commanded Piplup seriously.

Piplup then opened its beak and used Bubble Beam, forcefully ejecting a spray of bubbles at Flareon, striking it effectively.

Flareon then collapsed to the ground in pain.

"What? It didn't train for that!" Kale commented to this.

"Wow, way to go, Piplup!" Rico responded to this.

Piplup then responded with a little bit of pride.

Sighing with a little bit of drama, Kale said, "Well, I had no choice but to give up and give that gym badge to you…."

But then, Kale changed his tone and style of saying, "…but, not today!" Then to Flareon, "Flareon, use Fire Blast!"

Managing to get up, Flareon used Fire Blast, attacking Piplup with an intense blast of all-consuming fire.

Alerted by this, Rico quickly commanded Piplup, "Dodge it!"

Piplup then dodged Flareon's attack, and Rico commanded it, "Then use Water Pulse!"

Piplup then used Water Pulse, attacking Flareon with a pulsing blast of water.

"Dodge it, Flareon!" Kale commanded it as fast as he could.

Flareon then dodged it fast, surprising Rico and Piplup.

"Then use Flamethrower!" Kale commanded it.

Flareon then used Flamethrower, scorching an intense blast of fire.

"Piplup, use Water Gun!" Rico commanded Piplup immediately.

Piplup then used Water Gun, blocking Flareon's attack with a forceful shot of water.

This scenery really shocked Jonathan and Kale a lot, and this lasted for over one-sixth of a minute. Then, Piplup's Water Gun managed to overcome Flareon's Flamethrower, and it struck Flareon severely. This time, Flareon was defeated by it, ending the second and last round of the battle. Both sides are stunned to see this scene.

"Flareon is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Piplup wins, and the winner is Rico Cruz."

"What the…?" Rico responded to this while being stunned. "Did I win?"

"Yes, you did," Kale answered back while being stunned. "That Water Gun was so powerful."

This response causes Rico to snap out from being stunned and rejoiced in victory. Piplup then ran to Rico's arms and embraced their victory.

Calling his Flareon, Kale said to Rico, "Well, Rico, you are one very tough Trainer."

He then put Flareon's Poké Ball in his Pokébelt and went downstairs to give Rico the gym badge as a reward and proof of Rico's victory.

Delighted by this, Jonathan and the rest of Rico's and his Pokémon then stand up and went to Rico, and Jonathan said to him, "Congratulations, Rico, you really beat him."

His Greninja then responded with positive agreement.

"Thanks, big brother," Rico happily replied back to him. Piplup then responded with happiness.

Kale then presented with his gym's official gym badge, and said to Rico, "As proof of your victory, I give you this Lava gym badge."

Delighted by his reward, Rico grabbed the gym badge, raise it to the air, and shouted, "Yeah! I just got the Lava badge!"

After that moment, Rico get his gym badge case from his backpack and put the Lava gym badge in its right slot, fitting it perfectly.

"Wow, two down, six to go," Jonathan commented delightfully. "Still a long way to go."

"Yeah, I know," Rico responded back.

After that, Kale suggested to Rico and Jonathan that they all should go to a restaurant to celebrate Rico's victory.

"Sure, I would like some ice cream for snacks," Rico agreed with him.

"I would like some Tamato Berry Biscuits as well," Jonathan added positively.

This response from his older brother surprises Rico.

"What? You eat that kind of stuff?"

"Yes, I do," Jonathan responded back with a smile. "And plus, after our stay in this town, we'll be going together."

"Wow, how sweet!" Kale commented.

Rico was a bit embarrassed by it then, and Jonathan gave Kale a little scolding for saying that in front of his younger brother.

"Sorry, just kidding,"

And so, Rico had obtained his second gym badge from Kale.
