Chapter 8: The leader of the dungeon
In the advanced chapters, Kay managed to discover one of his abilities.***Eevee stumbled but managed to counter with a Bite. The Sandshrew reacted quickly, turning its back so Eevee's attack landed on its tough, armored shell without harming it.
The Bite didn't work, and the Sandshrew immediately followed up with a powerful Slash, throwing Eevee to the ground.
Kay shouted, "Eevee, use Sand Attack and try to create some space!"
Eevee kicked up a cloud of sand, but the move didn't faze the Sandshrew at all. Kay then remembered that Sandshrew lived in deserts and was used to sand, so it didn't affect its vision.
The Sandshrew struck again with another Slash. "Dodge!" Kay yelled, but Eevee had just finished using Sand Attack and couldn't react in time. The Slash landed, and Eevee took more damage.
Just then, Wish's effect kicked in, and Eevee recovered some of its health. However, Kay knew Eevee couldn't keep taking hits like this.
Sandshrew used Dig to go underground again. Desperate, Kay told Eevee, "Use Wish one more time!", it could use it just two times on this level.
When the Sandshrew reemerged, it struck Eevee hard, leaving it in a bad state. Kay realized they couldn't win this fight.
He scooped up Eevee and started running back toward the cave, but the sandy terrain made it difficult to move quickly.
He glanced back and saw that the Sandshrew wasn't giving up and was chasing them. As they neared the cave, the Sandshrew caught up and used a Tackle on them.
Before it could attack again, Kay's team emerged from the cave, carrying their newly collected eggs. When the Sandshrew saw them, it let out a loud, angry cry and charged at them.
The woman's Bellsprout acted quickly, bringing the Sandshrew down with a single Razor Leaf.
Kay stood there, holding his injured Eevee, realizing how weak he was.
Kay quickly pulled a potion from his bag, kneeling beside Eevee. He sprayed the mist over Eevee's fur, and the Pokemon's breathing steadied.
Thanks to the Wish Eevee had used earlier in the battle and the potion used by Kay it was better now. Kay gently stroked Eevee's head.
The group's leader, still grinning, crossed his arms and let out a loud, mocking laugh. "HAHAHAHA! Didn't I tell you to stick to supporting us? But no, you had to play the hero. Well, look at you now! That Sandshrew gave you exactly what you deserved!"
Kay clenched his jaw but stayed quiet, knowing now wasn't the time to argue.
As he stood, a faint rumbling noise reached his ears. He turned toward the horizon and saw a large herd of Sandshrews charging toward their location.
Their sharp claws kicked up clouds of sand as they rushed forward, their eyes gleaming with determination to protect the eggs.
"Tsk! What a mess!" The leader spat on the ground and glared at Kay. "This is your fault! If you had warned us about that Sandshrew earlier, we'd have dealt with it before it called for backup. Now look at what you've done!"
The sharp-eyed man stepped forward, adding with a sneer, "Yeah, you're lucky we don't leave you here as bait. But we'll settle this later."
The leader motioned for the group to move. "Let's escape now, and we'll discuss your punishment later."
The team escaped, sprinting across the sand. As the herd of Sandshrews gained on them, the sharp-eyed man released his Ekans, which went to the back and used a Smoke Screen. The black haze quickly enveloped the area, slowing the Sandshrews.
As they fled, Kay noticed something strange. The sand underfoot began to shift, becoming finer in texture and taking on a rich, orange hue. The environment felt different in this area.
Finally, the group stumbled into a vast, open desert area with shimmering golden sand. The dazzling landscape was breathtaking, but there was no time to admire it.
At the center of the desert stood a Pokemon that made Kay's heart race. It had a sleek, golden-brown body, its spines glinting like polished metal under the sunlight
Its claws, three on each hand, were massive, curved, and terrifyingly sharp.
Its angular face gave it a regal yet fierce look, and its piercing eyes scanned the surroundings with cold precision. (A Sandslash)
This Sandslash wasn't just any Pokémon, it was the leader of the dungeon, and its power seemed palpable.
Kay also noted some differences between this Sandslash, and the picture he had from the series from his old world, like three claws instead of two and also the color of its skin.
Beside the leader Sandslash stood three smaller ones, but those matched the appearance of those from Kay's old world.
Kay took a step back, swallowing hard. This wasn't just a battle; it was a nightmare.
Kay felt nervous as he stood in front of the powerful Sandslash leader and its group.
He glanced at his teammates and saw that they looked calm and confident, ready for the fight.
"We'll stick to the plan," the leader said firmly. Then he turned to Kay. "You, newbie, just do your job and don't try anything else. Focus on Bellsprout. It is the most effective Pokemon we have for this battle, so don't mess it up."
The team started by attacking the group of Sandshrew. Bellsprout used its vine whips to grab and strike several Sandshrew at once. Ekans followed with Poison, weakening more of them.
The leader's Houndour was using Bite on every Sandshrew it encountered killing many of them.
Kay followed orders and shouted, "Eevee, use Helping Hand on Bellsprout!" Eevee focused, boosting Bellsprout's power. With a powerful Razor Leaf, Bellsprout took down many Sandshrew in one move.
The battle was chaotic, with sand flying everywhere as the team fought. Kay noticed the Sandslash group stayed back, watching without moving to help the Sandshrew. It was like they were testing the trainers.
Finally, the last Sandshrew fell, and the team gathered together. Now there were four Sandslash left: three smaller ones and their strong, golden leader.
After defeating the Sandshrews, the team quickly gathered to heal their Pokemon using potions, knowing that the next battle against the Sandslash group would be far more challenging.
Kay followed their lead, carefully checking on Eevee and ensuring it was ready to continue supporting the team.
The atmosphere was tense, but the team members' confident expressions showed they had done this many times before.
Once their Pokemon were fully treated, the team advanced toward the four Sandslash. The battle began as each team member focused on a single Sandslash.
The leader's Houndour and the woman's Bellsprout took on the leader.
Kay and Eevee stayed at a safe distance, avoiding direct confrontation. Kay gave Eevee clear instructions to use Helping Hand to boost Bellsprout's power while remaining far from danger.
One hit from the leader Sandslash could end Eevee's life, and Kay knew he couldn't risk that.
As the battle raged on, Kay was amazed by the team's coordination and tactics. The woman's Bellsprout played a crucial role in the fight, thanks to her special ability.
Her gift allowed any move from Bellsprout to have a small chance of poisoning the opponent despite the move's type.
The team's strategy was clear; they were turning this fight into a battle of endurance.
Houndour focused on defending Bellsprout from the Sandslash's aggressive attacks while Bellsprout kept attacking from a safe distance.
Slowly but surely, the poison began to take effect. The leader Sandslash's movements became slower, and its attacks grew weaker.
The team capitalized on this moment, carefully dodging its swipes and striking with long-range attacks.
Kay continued supporting them with Eevee's Helping Hand, ensuring Bellsprout's attacks hit harder every time.
Finally, after a long and exhausting battle, the leader Sandslash staggered, visibly weakened by the poison and relentless attacks.
Seizing the opportunity, the woman commanded Bellsprout to use Razor Leaf. The attack hit with precision, slicing through the air and striking the leader Sandslash directly. With a final growl, the leader Sandslash collapsed to the ground, defeated.
