Chapter 2: The expedition

The aftermath of the gate breaks was devastating. Reports began flooding the radio waves with grim statistics: the world had lost nearly 40% of its population in just a month.

The hardest-hit areas were poorer countries, where military forces lacked the advanced weaponry and infrastructure needed to face these creatures.

These nations were left defenseless against the creatures, and the losses were catastrophic.

Kay listened in silent horror as these figures were repeated over and over, each broadcast painting a bleaker picture of humanity's dwindling numbers.

Despite the overwhelming despair, a glimmer of hope finally emerged. For the first time since the gates appeared, there was a piece of good news.

Newly created gates no longer seemed to release any creatures. This anomaly sparked curiosity and cautious optimism among scientists and military leaders.

As the days passed, the world's leaders convened, desperate to find a solution before another wave of destruction could occur.

The radio buzzed with news of debates and bold decisions. Eventually, a groundbreaking announcement was made: expeditions would be sent inside the gates.

Early studies suggested that there was another world behind the gates and that humans could survive in that world, a revelation that was both thrilling and terrifying.

This decision wasn't made lightly; it was made from the mounting fear that if left unchecked, these gates might break again after another month, unleashing even more powerful creatures.

The plan was met with mixed reactions. Some people were hopeful, thinking this could be the start of fighting back.

Others were scared, wondering what dangers might be hiding inside the gates.

Kay sat beside the radio, his ears glued to the device as if his focus alone could pull the news faster.

Every announcement about the expedition army was like a lifeline. The team had entered one of the smaller gates, chosen carefully to reduce the risk.

They were humanity's hope, armed with the best technology available; high-powered weapons, and advanced cameras designed to send live footage back to the outside world.

But the moment the soldiers stepped into the gate, the feed cut off. Static replaced the images on the monitors, and the engineers quickly reported the reason: a strong electromagnetic force inside the gate had blocked all communication.

This unexpected development left everyone in suspense. All the world could do was wait, holding their breath for any sign of progress.

Hours passed like days. Then, after five tense hours, the silence was broken. Reports came in "Three soldiers had emerged from the gate".

Relief swept over the shelter like a wave, but it was short-lived. As the soldiers stepped out, the gate behind them emitted an eerie, high-pitched sound.

Before anyone could react, the gate vanished entirely, leaving only empty air where it once stood.

Kay's heart sank as he listened to the details. The expedition had started with twenty soldiers.

Only three returned. The numbers were grim, a stark reminder of the dangers within the gates.

Still, the return of even a few survivors was enough to ignite a fragile hope. These three were hailed as heroes, proof that humanity could still fight back, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

The three soldiers were injured, their bodies battered and bruised from whatever horrors they had faced inside.

Medics rushed to provide immediate care, tending to their wounds and ensuring they were stable.

The world waited anxiously as the soldiers rested, their silence fueling a whirlwind of speculation.

For Kay and millions of others, the time between the soldiers' return and their eventual debriefing felt endless.

What had they seen inside the gate? What dangers lurked there? And most importantly, what did their survival mean for the future of humanity? The anticipation was unbearable, but one thing was clear: these soldiers carried answers that could change everything.

The next day, the radio buzzed with updates as the world listened closely to the testimony of one of the returned soldiers.

This soldier, who had suffered only minor injuries, shared a story that shocked everyone.

Inside the gate was a completely different world. What they had found was a massive, sprawling forest, alive and teeming with strange life.

What stunned everyone even more was the revelation that time worked differently inside the gate.

While only five hours had passed outside, the expedition team had spent nearly ten days in that forest.

The soldier described their early encounters. At first, the creatures seemed like the small monsters that attacked their world; they resembled big insects and worms, but these ones didn't make a challenge for them.

From his words, Kay immediately pictured Caterpie and Weedle.

As the team ventured deeper into the forest, the creatures became stronger. One day, the soldier recounted, they stumbled upon a small, dark cave.

Inside, they found clusters of eggs, dozens of them, carefully arranged. The team assumed these eggs were the source of future monsters, so they decided to destroy them all.

But what followed was their first true nightmare. As they smashed the eggs, the air filled with an angry, droning buzz.

A swarm of enormous bees emerged from the trees, their needle-like stingers gleaming ominously.

The soldier described the situation with terror which showed what they had passed inside the gate. (For sure it's a Beedrill swarm)

The team fought desperately, but the swarm's numbers were overwhelming. That day, they lost eight soldiers to the relentless attack.

The survivors barely escaped, retreating deeper into the forest, their morale shaken and their numbers thinned.

On the last day of their expedition, the team heard a loud, vibrating buzz that echoed through the forest.

It was unlike anything they had heard before. Following the sound cautiously, they came upon a clearing.

There, hovering in the center, was a massive bee-like creature, similar to the others but larger, with sharper features and a menacing aura. Surrounding it were smaller bees that seemed to act as its guards.

Realizing the danger, the team decided to retreat. But as they tried to slip away unnoticed, the creatures spotted them.

The swarm attacked from behind, driving them out into the open clearing.

With no place left to run, the soldiers knew they had to fight. They have no choices: stand and face the enemy or die trying to escape.

The soldier continued describing the battle. At first, it was one-sided just the sound of buzzing wings and deadly stingers and spears.

The bees attacked relentlessly, and the soldiers could only defend themselves, barely holding their ground.

The enormous bee, which appeared to be the leader, hovered silently at the edge of the battle, watching but not engaging.

Then, a shift in the fight occurred. One soldier, desperate to turn the tide, switched his weapon to one that emitted fire; a flamethrower-like device.

To their astonishment, the fire proved incredibly effective against the bees. The creatures, which seemed nearly invincible before, began to falter.

Encouraged by this discovery, the remaining soldiers focused their efforts, using fire-based attacks to incinerate the swarm.

In a matter of minutes, they had reduced the swarm to ashes except for the massive bee and three others that stood by its side.

These remaining bees were visibly different, stronger, and more resilient than the rest. Despite their earlier success, the soldiers knew they were in for another deadly round.

By this point, only ten soldiers were left, as two had fallen in the initial battle. With grim determination, they turned their attention to the final four opponents.

They launched their attack, aiming to kill the smaller bees first, but the massive bee still didn't move.

The smaller bees fought viciously, managing to kill three more soldiers before they were finally brought down.

The soldiers used their most powerful weapons to eliminate them. (explosive bombs that created intense bursts of fire in tight spaces).

When the last of the smaller bees fell, the survivors allowed themselves a brief moment of dream of victory as they were now seven versus one.

But their victory was short-lived. As they prepared to strike, the enormous creature finally moved.

With one swift motion, it lunged, its spear-like limbs piercing straight through a soldier's body.

The speed and power of the attack were staggering, and it was clear they had underestimated the beast's strength.

They tried to use their bombs against it, but the creature was too fast. It darted through the air with precision, evading every attack.

The soldiers' hope began to fade, their confidence replaced with the grim realization that they were outmatched.

Just as despair was setting in, one soldier made a bold and selfless decision. Stripping off his heavy arsenal to move faster, he grabbed one of the remaining bombs and sprinted toward the massive bee.

His comrades shouted for him to stop, but he ignored them, his focus locked on the enemy.

As he closed the distance, the bee struck. Its spear pierced through his stomach, blood staining the forest floor.

Yet, even in his agony, the soldier didn't falter. With his remaining strength, he grabbed hold of the spear, locking the bee in place.

Before the creature could pull away, the soldier hurled the bomb directly at it. The explosion that followed lit up the clearing in a fiery blaze, engulfing both the soldier and the bee.

When the smoke cleared ...
