Pokémon: Day Bringer

Chapter 26: Dreams are never fun

It was night time, as the squad was sleeping, as they did Haru was having a dream it was not a normal dream, but one of his past life's memories

It was different, he just looked around Wondering what time it was, was it when his brother was crown the king of Unova, or was when the Legendary Dragon split it was hard to tell

Haru found himself standing in the middle of a grand hall, its walls adorned with intricate carvings of dragons—one black as night, the other gleaming white. He recognized the place instantly: it was the royal palace of Unova from his past life. The air was heavy with tension, and the faint echoes of a heated argument filled the halls.

He glanced at his reflection in the polished marble floor. He wasn't Haru anymore—he was his past self, dressed in royal robes, his figure exuding authority and wisdom. His memories were hazy, but he felt the weight of responsibility pressing down on his shoulders.

Suddenly, the doors to the throne room burst open, and his brother entered, his expression a mixture of anger and sorrow. Behind him, the two halves of the legendary dragon—Reshiram and Zekrom—stood, their presence overwhelming.

"Brother!" his past self's voice called out, firm but tinged with pain. "Why must we fight? The dragon split because of us. We're tearing this kingdom apart!"

His brother, clad in armor befitting a king, pointed an accusatory finger. "You chose ideals over truth! You couldn't see the path forward for our people. I had no choice but to take the throne and guide them myself!"

The ground shook as the dragons roared, their energies clashing in a violent display of fire and lightning. Haru could feel the power reverberating through his very soul. His heart ached at the sight, knowing the kingdom he had worked so hard to unite was now divided because of their differing philosophies.

He stepped closer to his brother, extending a hand. "This isn't what the dragons wanted. They chose us to lead together, to balance each other. Please, stop this madness before it's too late."

His brother hesitated, but the darkness in his eyes didn't waver. "It's already too late, brother. Only one of us can guide Unova now."

Before Haru could respond, the dream began to shift. The scene dissolved into chaos as flames and lightning engulfed the throne room. He reached out to stop it, to change the course of history, but his hands passed through the illusions like smoke.

He awoke with a start, sweat dripping down his face. The night was still, the only sound the faint rustle of leaves outside their camp. Jessie, James, and Casey were fast asleep nearby, unaware of Haru's turmoil.

Haru stared at the stars above, his mind racing. What was that? Why am I remembering this now? He clenched his fists, determination filling his heart. "I won't make the same mistakes again," he whispered to himself. "This time, I'll find a way to unite, not divide."

He lay back down, though sleep didn't come easily. The echoes of his past haunted him, but they also gave him a renewed sense of purpose.

The next day arrives, they were ready to go to Morty Gym, but they stopped when they heard something Ecruteak City grand play hall, they went inside and saw a Team Rocket grunts trying to steal an Pokémon Egg.

The group quickly stepped inside the grand play hall, the faint aroma of incense lingering in the air. Team Rocket grunts, clad in their signature black uniforms with the bold red "R," were gathered near the stage, attempting to wrestle a shimmering Pokémon Egg from its protective display. The Egg glowed faintly, as if resisting their touch.

Haru cracked his knuckles, his expression calm but his voice sharp. "Team Rocket here, huh? I thought this was supposed to be a quiet morning. Guess you guys just can't resist stirring up trouble."

Jessie and James exchanged a glance, their expressions a mix of guilt and nostalgia. Meowth sighed. "It feels weird bein' on the other side of dis, don't it?"

The lead grunt turned around, his face twisting in confusion. "Who the hell are you supposed to be? You think you can stop us?"

Haru smirked, pulling out a Poké Ball. "Let's just say I've got a bad habit of ruining your kind's plans. Electivire, come out!"

Electivire burst forth from the Poké Ball with a crackle of electricity, its muscles flexing as it growled, ready for battle. Casey stepped forward, tossing out her own Poké Ball. "If Team Rocket's trying to steal something, then count me in to stop them. Let's go, Meganium!"

Meganium appeared with a soft roar, its leafy mane glowing in the morning light.

The grunts released their Pokémon—two Koffing and a Raticate. Haru raised an eyebrow. "You're still using the same lineup as every other grunt I've run into? Pathetic. Electivire, Thunderbolt!"

Electivire unleashed a massive surge of electricity that coursed through the room, hitting both Koffing with pinpoint accuracy. The toxic Pokémon were immediately paralyzed, their movements sluggish.

Casey wasted no time. "Meganium, use Razor Leaf!" Meganium whipped its head, sending a flurry of sharp leaves flying through the air. The Raticate barely dodged but ended up getting clipped and knocked back by the barrage.

Jessie and James joined in, sending out Wobbuffet and Seviper. "Wobbuffet, Counter!" Jessie commanded as one of the Koffing attempted to retaliate with a Sludge attack, only to have it sent back at double strength.

The lead grunt growled, realizing they were outmatched. "You brats think you've won? Just you wait!" He grabbed the Egg, but Haru was faster.

"Not on my watch." Haru dashed forward with surprising speed, landing a well-placed kick to the grunt's hand, forcing him to drop the Egg. Haru caught it mid-air, cradling it carefully.

The grunt stumbled back. "You'll regret this!" With a snap of his fingers, the grunts tossed smoke bombs onto the ground, filling the room with thick smoke. When it cleared, they were gone.

Haru handed the Egg to one of the caretakers of the play hall, who thanked him profusely. "This Egg is said to contain a rare and mystical Pokémon," she explained. "You've saved something truly precious."

As the group left the play hall, Haru turned to Jessie and James. "I've got to ask... How does it feel seeing how incompetent Team Rocket really is?"

Jessie scoffed. "We were creative incompetents. There's a difference."

James nodded. "Exactly! At least we had style."

Haru chuckled. "If you say so." He looked toward Morty's Gym in the distance. "Alright, enough distractions. Let's go earn that badge."

Haru stopped in his tracks as one of the Ecruteak girls approached him. She was dressed in traditional kimono attire, her demeanor calm yet firm. "Wait, stop there," she called out, holding the shimmering Pokémon Egg in her hands.

He turned around, eyebrows raised in mild curiosity. "Do you need something?"

The girl stepped closer, her expression softening. "This Egg was meant to be a prize for our upcoming festival tournament," she explained. "However, you've shown immense bravery and a pure heart in protecting it from those thieves. It's clear you are its rightful guardian."

She extended the Egg toward him, its surface glowing faintly in the morning light. The others in his group looked on, stunned.

Haru hesitated, looking at the Egg and then at the girl. "Are you sure? I was just doing what anyone would've done in that situation."

The girl smiled warmly. "Not everyone would have risked themselves to protect it. Please, take it. We believe the Pokémon inside will thrive under your care."

Haru gently accepted the Egg, feeling a strange warmth emanating from it. He cradled it carefully in his arms, as if it was already alive. "Thank you. I'll make sure it hatches safely and that the Pokémon inside grows strong."

Casey leaned over, her curiosity piqued. "I wonder what kind of Pokémon it'll be. Something rare, right?"

Jessie smirked. "It better be worth all the trouble we went through."

James nodded. "Whatever it is, it's in good hands now."

Haru gave a small nod of gratitude to the girl. "I appreciate this. You have my word that I'll take good care of it."

The girl bowed slightly. "Good luck on your journey, and may your bond with the Pokémon bring you great strength." She turned and walked back toward the play hall, leaving the group with the Egg.

Haru looked at the Egg once more, then tucked it safely into his bag, cushioned by his other belongings. "Alright, now that this little side quest is done, let's head to the Gym."

The group resumed their journey toward Morty's Gym, the Egg now an exciting mystery for Haru to uncover in the future.

They arrived to Morty, as Morty was waiting for Haru they smirked.

Going to there side, they sent out there Pokémon, Haru sent you Marshtomp, as his starter came out.

Morty looked at him. "Will this is curv ball, I thought you would use Electivire".

Haru laughed. "Yeah, but this is let's go".

Morty sent out his Pokeball, as came out Gengar and the battle start, Marshtomp used water gun and Gengar jumped away as it sent a Shadow ball, Marshtomp jumped awah as it then use Water gun again, Gengar then use shadow sneak as it attacked Marshtomp seeing this Marshtomp used Aqua Tail but that missed, as then it used Rock slide.

Haru looked at Marshtomp ready to give his next command. "Marshtomp Bide".

Morty raised an eyebrow as he watched Marshtomp take a defensive stance, glowing faintly with an energy that indicated it was preparing to endure and counter. "Bide, huh?" Morty smirked. "Interesting choice. Gengar, let's keep the pressure up. Use Shadow Ball!"

Gengar cackled as it launched another Shadow Ball straight at Marshtomp, who remained motionless, absorbing the attack. The energy of the Bide began to grow, its glow intensifying.

"Keep it going, Gengar! Use Sludge Bomb!" Morty commanded.

Gengar hurled a Sludge Bomb at Marshtomp, the attack hitting directly, but Marshtomp didn't falter. Instead, the energy stored within it reached its peak, the glow now pulsating with power.

Haru grinned. "Now, Marshtomp, release it!"

With a mighty roar, Marshtomp unleashed the stored energy in a massive retaliatory blast. The shockwave slammed into Gengar, sending it flying backward. Gengar barely managed to stay upright, visibly shaken and weakened by the devastating counterattack.

Morty's smirk faded slightly. "Not bad, Haru. But this match isn't over yet. Gengar, use Hypnosis!"

Gengar's eyes glowed as it emitted a hypnotic wave toward Marshtomp. Haru quickly reacted. "Marshtomp, Rock slide, now!"

Marshtomp spat out a flurry of muddy projectiles that disrupted Gengar's focus, causing the Hypnosis attack to fail. One of the Roxks hit Gengar directly, lowering its HP and further weakening it.

Morty crossed his arms. "Clever, Haru. You're not making this easy. But Gengar and I still have a few tricks up our sleeve. Gengar, use Shadow Sneak!"

Gengar melted into the shadows and darted toward Marshtomp at lightning speed. Haru was ready. "Marshtomp, Aqua Tail to block!"

Marshtomp swung its glowing tail just in time, intercepting Gengar's shadowy attack and sending it skidding backward. Both Pokémon were now panting, their stamina wearing thin.

Morty gave a nod of respect. "Your Marshtomp is strong, no doubt about it. But let's see if it can handle this. Gengar, Destiny Bond!"

Haru's eyes narrowed as he realized Morty's strategy. Gengar's energy flared as it linked its fate with Marshtomp's. Haru smirked. "Not falling for that. Marshtomp, finish it with Rock Slide, but be ready to switch if necessary!"

Marshtomp summoned a barrage of rocks that crashed down onto Gengar. The ghost Pokémon let out a final cry before fainting. The glow of Destiny Bond started to creep toward Marshtomp, but Haru was already ahead.

"Return, Marshtomp!" Haru quickly recalled his Pokémon just as the Destiny Bond effect dissipated into thin air.

Morty chuckled. "Quick thinking, as always. I can see you've gotten even sharper since the last time we battled."

Haru smiled. "I've had a lot of practice. Ready for your next Pokémon?"

Morty grabbed his next Pokéball. "Always. Let's keep this battle rolling!"

Morty then sent out his final Pokémon Dusclops, as the Pokémon moved in high speed as ut attack, Electivire use ice punch but it waw clear the Pokémon took to much damage from the last, so one Dark Pulse from Dusclops and Electivire was out.

Haru looked at Morty. "You took down both Electivire and Marshtomp will here we go, I chose you Houndour".

Morty looked at Haru. "Are you expecting him to evolve mid battle".

Haru smirked at Morty's comment. "Who knows? But I don't need an evolution to win this. Houndour's more than capable as he is. Let's show him, buddy!"

Houndour barked confidently as it entered the battlefield, facing Dusclops with fiery determination. Morty nodded. "Alright, let's see what you've got. Dusclops, use Will-O-Wisp!"

Blue flames danced around Dusclops as it hurled ghostly embers toward Houndour. Haru reacted quickly. "Houndour, counter it with Flamethrower!"

Houndour unleashed a stream of flames, colliding with the Will-O-Wisp and dispersing it. The clash caused a small explosion of fire and sparks, briefly obscuring the battlefield.

Morty grinned. "Not bad, but we're just getting started. Dusclops, use Shadow Punch!"

Dusclops disappeared into the shadows, reappearing in front of Houndour and delivering a powerful punch. Haru clenched his fists. "Houndour, dodge and use Crunch!"

Houndour leaped to the side, avoiding the attack, and lunged at Dusclops, its fangs glowing darkly. The bite landed directly on Dusclops, causing it to cry out in pain as the dark-type move exploited its ghostly weaknesses.

Morty's expression turned serious. "Dusclops, use Disable on Crunch!"

Dusclops glowed with eerie energy, and Houndour froze momentarily as its Crunch move was sealed. Haru frowned but quickly adapted. "That's fine. Houndour, let's use Smog!"

Houndour released a dense cloud of toxic gas, enveloping Dusclops. Morty looked calm as he gave his next command. "Dusclops, use Shadow Ball!"

Through the Smog, Dusclops fired a dark orb of energy, striking Houndour and pushing it back. Houndour growled but remained standing. Haru could feel the tension of the battle rising.

Then it happened. Houndour began to glow. Haru's eyes widened as the light enveloped his Pokémon. "No way…"

The glow intensified, and Houndour's form changed. When the light faded, Houndour had evolved into Houndoom, standing tall and radiating power. Haru grinned. "Well, Morty, looks like your prediction came true!"

Morty chuckled. "I was only half-joking, but it seems I was right. Let's see how you handle Dusclops now."

Haru pointed confidently. "Houndoom, finish this with Dark Pulse!"

Houndoom howled as it unleashed a powerful wave of dark energy that slammed into Dusclops. The ghost Pokémon staggered before collapsing, unable to continue.

Morty recalled his Pokémon and walked toward Haru with a smile. "Well done, Haru. You've earned this." He handed over the Fog Badge. "Take it with pride."

Haru accepted the badge and looked at his newly evolved Houndoom. "Thanks, buddy. You were amazing." The squad celebrated the victory as Morty bid them farewell, and their journey toward the next challenge began.

Morty then handed a TM to Haru. "Also have this, I don't need this".

Haru took the TM as he looked at it. "Is this what I think it is"

Morty looked at him. "Earthquake yes it is, I pretty sure you wanted to teach this to Electivire and Marshtomp don't you".

Haru looked at him. "Yeah, I have looking for this, Pokémon store was out of this specific TM".

Morty chuckled at Haru's reaction. "Well, consider it a gift. You earned it, after all. Just don't go causing too many tremors out there."

Haru carefully pocketed the TM, a grin spreading across his face. "This is going to make battles so much easier. Electivire and Marshtomp will love this upgrade."

Jessie, James, and Casey walked over, intrigued by the exchange. Casey tilted her head. "Earthquake? Isn't that a really powerful move? You're seriously going to teach it to both of them?"

Haru nodded confidently. "Absolutely. Electivire will get better type coverage, and Marshtomp already has the ground-type advantage. It's the perfect move for them."

Jessie folded her arms. "You're starting to sound like a walking strategy guide."

James added, "Not to mention, I bet this will make all your future battles even more explosive."

Morty smirked. "Just make sure you don't overdo it, Haru. Earthquake can be devastating, but it's a move that requires precision and timing."

Haru gave a thumbs-up. "Don't worry, Morty. I know how to handle it. Thanks again for the badge and the TM."

Morty waved them off as they left the gym, heading back into Ecruteak City to prepare for their next destination. Haru looked at his Pokémon team as they walked. "Alright, team, next stop—Olivine City. Let's keep this momentum going."

The group cheered, excited for the next leg of their journey and the challenges that awaited them.
