Pokémon Court

Chapter 352: 1 vs 200

"Such refreshing air."

Terrance's gaze swiftly swept down from the sky, finally settling on Examiner Joy.

Unlike Nurse Joy, Examiner Joy wore a black uniform, exuding a valiant and heroic aura. However, her pink hair softened the seriousness of the outfit, making it hard to look away from her. As Examiner Joy slid down the rope on her own, Terrance was startled.

For an ordinary person, who would have the courage to slide down a rope from such a high place? Was this part of the assessment too?

Terrance chuckled lightly, hesitating only briefly before grabbing another rope and sliding down as well.

Having undergone International Police-style special training with Teacher Julian, he could easily handle this.

When Terrance landed on the ground, his eyes met Examiner Joy.

"I thought you might use a Flying-Type Pokémon to descend. Theoretically, that's within the assessment parameters."

Terrance rolled his eyes. Didn't you say we are going to use the rope? Why not mention that earlier?

In truth, Lucy Joy wanted to test Terrance's capabilities across different areas. Though Terrance appeared young, his physique and courage seemed to surpass many Trainers.

That was a bonus point, but Examiner Joy didn't point it out. For the rest of the assessment, Terrance would operate independently. She was only here to record; she wouldn't interfere.

"You're free to move on your own now. Don't mind me. Good luck," Examiner Joy said, then she disappeared from Terrance's line of sight.

Despite this, Terrance couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.

"Using Pokémon?" he speculated.

"If it's just about surviving on this deserted island for seven days... Even without food or water at the start, finding enough to get by shouldn't be too hard." Terrance began searching for a suitable place to settle. Back when he first started traveling, he managed to survive for a month with the newly hatched Swablu, so he should be able to manage now as well.

The overgrown grass under his feet clearly wasn't a viable place to stay. It was uninhabitable.

But Terrance had barely taken a few steps when his expression suddenly changed. He realized he had underestimated the danger of this D-Level Lost Region.

Only now did Terrance understand the meaning behind Joy's earlier "good luck."

In his field of vision, countless black dots began emerging from a massive tree, accompanied by piercing screeches. Terrance stopped in his tracks, staring grimly at the Pokémon appearing in droves.

Spearow.

"Great, I've walked straight into Spearow territory," Terrance muttered helplessly.

Spearow were notoriously aggressive. Anyone invading their territory would face immediate and relentless attacks.

Although Spearow couldn't fly high or far, it is incredibly fast. When it senses an enemy approaching, it emits a sharp cry. This is a warning that outsiders intruding Spearow's territory will be attacked.

Terrance took a step back. If this was Spearow territory, he wouldn't be able to leave in a short time. His only option was to fend them off.

"Castform!" Terrance quickly called out Castform as the number of Spearow emerging from the giant tree continued to grow.

Since escape wasn't an option, he had no choice but to fight. True to its designation as a D-Level Lost Region, this place was fraught with danger at every step.

In the distance, Examiner Joy also noticed the commotion. She murmured to herself, "His luck really is terrible. Getting spotted by Spearow right after landing."

She shook her head. "Terrance, 13 years old, from Fallarbor Town. Trainer registration time: just one year. The channel through which he applied to be a Gym Trainer is unknown. I rushed over from Kanto to serve as an examiner at the last moment and only managed to gather this much information. Still, if he has the confidence to apply for Gym Trainer, he should be able to handle this many Spearow, despite his young age."

Examiner Joy glanced toward the Spearow flock. As their numbers increased further, she released a Pokémon: "Dragonite, stand by to drive off the Spearow if necessary."

The dark mass of Spearow took off in unison, their sharp cries reverberating ominously. Hearing the cries, smaller creatures at the bottom of the food chain scattered frantically, terrified of becoming collateral damage.

The Spearow's disheveled brown crest fluttered in the wind as they flew at high speed. Their beak, resembling that of a raptor, glinted in the light. Their three talons extended forward as if to tear apart the intruder before them. Anyone witnessing this sight would feel as if they are facing a powerful enemy, their expression changing drastically.

"This number… one hundred… no, perhaps closer to two hundred."

"It seems he landed in one of the Spearow's primary habitats. This examinee really has no luck." Examiner Joy shook her head.

But the next moment—

A deafening rumble rang out, drawing her and Dragonite's attention to the sky.

A thunderclap?

No—

Following the rumbling sound, Joy looked up to see dark clouds gathering in the sky ahead of the Spearow flock. Raindrops began to fall, and darkness enveloped the area with a deafening roar.

Whoosh! The moment the Spearow arrived, a gust of wind swirled up from under the dark clouds, halting their advance. The powerful wind pressure was so intense that even Joy, standing far away, could hear it clearly.

Immediately after, the dark clouds in the sky began to move. With a loud boom, a bolt of lightning shot out, followed by the formation of a sea of thunder within the clouds, with continuous thunderclaps. It was like a golden ocean, resembling a scene from the apocalypse, incredibly shocking!

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

The nearly 200 Spearow panicked. Staring at the lightning raining down from above, their neat formation broke apart. Terrified, the Spearow scattered in all directions. Many of them were struck by the descending lightning, left singed and stunned, before they frantically turned and fled.

In an instant, dark clouds gathered, rain fell, a fierce wind rose, and thunder rumbled. Two hundred Spearow, facing this apocalyptic scene, were so frightened that they fled in panic, unable to summon any will to resist.

Examiner Joy was stunned. Only now did she notice what was happening near Terrance.

A small, droplet-shaped Pokémon was perched on Terrance's shoulder, proudly gazing at the sky like a messenger wielding absolute control over the weather.

"Is that… Castform?"

The thought of intervening to assist Terrance faded from her mind. Instead, she began taking notes. "Since he was able to pass the first part of the assessment, it's natural that the League believes he is qualified to become a Gym Trainer. I was overthinking."

Joy immediately recalled her Dragonite, though her mind lingered on the Rain Dance and Thunder from earlier, feeling doubtful.

Was that really Castform's power? Even my Dragonite's Rain Dance and Thunder can't come close to that level of power...

As the Spearow fled, Terrance looked at the open path ahead, calmly recalling Castform. He then released Mismagius.

"Let's go. We need to find a place to settle before nightfall. That last move only scared off the Spearow temporarily. We need to leave this area quickly, or they'll be back to bother us again."
