Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom

Chapter 890: The Tyrant of the Desert

The people from Kanto were left speechless.

However, the information Cain had provided was still extremely valuable. After sharing a few more details, he immediately hung up the phone to begin preparations.

From Cain's perspective, although he was working for both Team Rocket and the League, he hadn't done anything that directly harmed either side.

The League had obtained the information it wanted and would also have the opportunity to dismantle a Team Rocket research base—clearly a gain.

On the other hand, Team Rocket, thanks to Cain, had managed to mislead the League, allowing them to operate more freely and fulfill their objectives.

If Team Rocket succeeded in controlling Mewtwo, then everything Cain had done so far could be seen as helping them.

However, Cain already knew that although Mewtwo might be controllable at first, they would eventually lose that control.

When that moment came, not only would Team Rocket be unable to face the League, but they would also suffer Mewtwo's retaliation.

In that sense, Cain wasn't really supporting either side, yet both were benefiting from his actions.

Both sides were convinced Cain was on their side and had helped them achieve their goals.

A true masterstroke—three birds with one stone.

Cain was playing his role as a double agent exceptionally well.

All three sides had gained something without suffering major losses.

Of course, if anyone came out the worst in all of this, it was Team Rocket, who had lost a research base.

No, actually, the biggest loser was Lysandre Labs. They were the ones truly in trouble.

Initially, they only wanted to see if they could obtain information about Mega Stones through Team Rocket.

Later, they began cooperating with Team Rocket with the intention of gaining some benefits.

Now, however, Giovanni had completely given them up.

Well, rather than selling them out, he simply let the League decide whether Lysandre Labs had the capacity to continue collaborating with Team Rocket.

Now everything depended on how strong Lysandre Labs really was and whether they could withstand the League's investigation.

The people from the Kanto League hurried to close the video call—otherwise, they didn't know how long Juan would keep mocking them.

Cain didn't know all the intricacies of the situation, but seeing Juan's reaction, he was able to deduce a few things.

Juan was quite protective of his own.

With the Kanto communication closed, only Juan and Yui remained on the call.

"Cain, you did well this time. When you finish the mission, leave there as soon as possible. Kanto is still unstable right now," said Juan.

Cain nodded.

After a few final instructions, Juan ended the call.

Yui didn't have much to say to Cain either. Her personality wasn't one for talking much.

She simply informed him that once the League confirmed the location of the Team Rocket base in Olivine City, his mission would be considered complete and he would have free time.

If the opportunity arose, he could travel to Kalos to investigate Lysandre Labs further and see if he could gather more relevant information.

Cain had no objections and accepted the suggestion.

In fact, after completing the construction of his island, he had been considering visiting the Kalos region, since it was the place of origin of Mega Evolution. Perhaps he could find more Mega Stones before they became widely known.

Now, having the excuse of investigating Lysandre Labs made it even better.

Moreover, Cain suspected that the Mega Stone auctioned at the event had come from Lysandre Labs.

If that was the case, it meant they might still have many more stored in their facilities.

The idea was highly appealing to him.

After ending all the calls, Cain concluded the mission.

The surrounding researchers looked at him with admiration.

An advanced-level researcher was, without a doubt, an advanced-level researcher. What they had considered a complicated, clue-less case, Cain had solved in just one day, obtaining information on a secret Team Rocket base.

For them, this was a massive achievement.

Even though they hadn't played a major role in the mission, at least they could say they had worked with Cain and share in some of the credit.

"Write a report and send it to the higher-ups. You heard what was said, right? I don't think I need to explain the details," said Cain.

"Understood! Thank you, sir!" responded one of the intermediate-level researchers immediately.

Cain made it clear that he didn't want to take all the credit and was allowing them to share in some of the recognition, which would help them in future promotions.

It was his way of supporting them.

After bidding farewell with a gesture, Slowking used the move Teleport and vanished with Cain from the room.

There were still six days left of Team Rocket's auction.

The upcoming sessions likely wouldn't be as intense as today's, so he didn't plan to attend all of them to avoid drawing suspicion.

In any case, the resources he needed could still be acquired at the black market shops.

That night, Cain decided to change the Pokémon he carried with him.

Until now, he had barely needed to use them. At the auction, their main function had been deterrence, without participating in any battles.

In his hotel room, Cain swapped out his Pokémon and brought back Pupitar.

With a wave of his right hand, he activated the Unown dimensional space, creating a rift in the wall that led to a dimension resembling a training field.

Now that he had five Unown, the space was larger and more stable.

Furthermore, any activity carried out in that dimension didn't affect the outside world, allowing him to train in privacy from his hotel room.

He didn't close the entrance to the space, since his system was still connected to Porygon on the island. If he closed the portal, he'd lose connection with it, which could affect the island's development.

Inside the dimensional space, Cain summoned Pupitar and Combusken.

The Mega Stone he had obtained could belong to one of them.

Whether it was Pupitar or Combusken, whichever got the Mega Stone would be a great advantage for him.

However, since the Mega Stone was wrapped in a Smooth Rock, Cain suspected it was meant for Pupitar.

He decided to test it.

Under the system's scan, he observed the changes in the Mega Stone when Pupitar approached.

The moment Pupitar got close, the energy within the Mega Stone began to fluctuate.

Seeing the energy curve on the screen, Cain's heart skipped a beat.

And then, the surprise turned to joy.

He had hit the mark!

It was Tyranitar's Mega Stone—Tyranitarite.

And it came with a bonus: a special rock with sandstorm properties.

The Tyrant of the Desert was ready for battle.
