Chapter 881: Dratini
After the auction of the Riolu Pokémon egg, it was formally announced that the auction was coming to an end.
Though that start of the end wasn't particularly auspicious.
However, when it came time for the three most important items, everyone sat up straight and paid attention, not allowing the recent disappointment over the damaged Pokémon egg to affect them.
Seeing this, the presenter on stage let out a sigh of relief.
As long as the final three auctions went smoothly, or at least the last one wasn't negatively impacted, she wouldn't receive any reprimands.
Many of the attendees in the VIP rooms had come solely for that final item.
If she had had enough money herself, she would have bought it without hesitation.
When she saw the item for the first time, as a member of Team Rocket, she had the impulse to take it and leave the organization forever.
But the security around that item was too tight; even she couldn't get close. Only the upper ranks had access.
"Now, let's take a look at our third most important item. Let's see what it is!" The presenter, despite having spoken throughout the entire auction, maintained admirable enthusiasm.
A cart was pushed onto the stage, although this time not by the elegant attendants, but by uniformed Team Rocket members.
This showed just how valuable the item was.
When they removed the cover, they revealed another Pokémon egg.
However, this one was in perfect condition.
"I'm sure many of you already know. When we first announced this auction, the main item was this Pokémon egg. Later, we added two other items that pushed this one to third place. But don't underestimate this Pokémon egg. Because it's the egg of a pseudo-legendary Pokémon."
"A Dratini Pokémon egg!"
"Its final evolution is Dragonite, the pseudo-legendary Pokémon of the Kanto region. Surely you all know it, right?"
"And the quality of this Pokémon egg has reached the highest level. If you don't want to miss this opportunity, get ready to place your bids!"
"The starting price is 100 million Pokédollars, with minimum increases of 2 million."
"The auction begins now!"
A Dratini Pokémon egg—a pseudo-legendary Pokémon.
Cain activated the system's scan function to analyze the Pokémon egg.
Pokémon: Dratini (Blue)
Gender: Male
Level: Level 1
Type: Dragon
Ability: Shed Skin
Held Item: None
Egg Moves: Dragon Breath, Dragon Dance, Extreme Speed, Water Pulse
Basic Moves: Wrap, Leer
Learned Moves: None
TM Moves: None
Initially, Cain didn't show much interest upon seeing the quality was only Blue.
But when he saw the egg moves, he narrowed his eyes.
The moves Dragon Breath and Dragon Dance already indicated a strong draconic bloodline. What really caught his attention was the move Extreme Speed.
Cain clearly remembered that Professor Oak's Dragonite was so formidable not only because of its quality and level, but also because of that key move: Extreme Speed.
For a Dratini to inherit that move meant that at least one of its parents was extremely powerful.
A Dragonite with Extreme Speed simply couldn't be weak.
Even if its quality wasn't the best, its potential could be developed.
With the right resources, it could evolve into a Dragonite worthy of admiration.
Cain possessed resources to improve Pokémon quality, such as special potions.
He wasn't the only one. Ancient families like Steven's had exclusive methods to enhance Steel-type Pokémon. Surely families specializing in Dragon-type Pokémon also had ways to boost dragon-types.
Never underestimate families that have endured for centuries; their knowledge and resources are unmatched.
"Before you begin placing bids, I must remind you of something important."
The presenter smiled as she spoke calmly.
"After extensive testing by our Team Rocket experts, we've confirmed that this Dratini's egg moves are: Dragon Breath, Dragon Dance, Water Pulse, and... Extreme Speed!"
When she mentioned the first two moves, several attendees showed interest. But upon hearing Extreme Speed, all those in the know displayed expressions of astonishment similar to Cain's.
"200 million!"
A voice called out from a VIP room near Cain.
The starting price was instantly doubled, leaving the audience stunned. The room fell into a momentary silence.
When the attendees recovered, they began bidding non-stop.
The price quickly soared, surpassing one billion.
For a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, that was a reference point.
Cain didn't even attempt to bid. He knew he couldn't afford it. Even though he had earned a great sum in this auction, he couldn't compare with the real magnates.
If no one had known the value of the Extreme Speed move, perhaps he would've had a chance. But Team Rocket wouldn't miss a chance to make money.
When the price surpassed one billion, many voices fell silent. Only from the private rooms and exclusive lounges could new bids be heard.
The reason was simple: Extreme Speed was an extremely rare move.
Among Pokémon, only the Dragonite species could inherit it naturally.
Pokémon that could learn it by leveling up included Rayquaza, Deoxys, Togekiss, Arceus, Zygarde, among others.
Even the Riolu Cain had acquired could learn Extreme Speed upon reaching level 65.
This showed just how valuable the move was.
And how powerful it was in battle!
Rayquaza, the legendary Pokémon, was famous for its love of that move. Even in its primal form, it still considered it its favorite.
Because it was fast.
Incredibly fast!
"Two billion!"
From a VIP room on the upper floor, a clear female voice echoed.
Cain frowned when he heard it.
That voice sounded familiar.
"Two billion! Is the Drako family also that interested in Dragon-type Pokémon?" another voice followed immediately, directly mentioning the family's name.
In an auction, revealing another bidder's name or affiliation was a serious breach of etiquette.
But it was obvious this person wasn't afraid, as he dared to shout the name of the Drako family.
"Two billion, one hundred million! Hmph! You coward, do you dare to tell me your name?" the female voice sounded again.
After hearing that person again, Cain finally realized whose voice it was. It was the one who had fought him in the Sinnoh Tournament, Lance's cousin—Clair.
"Two billion, one hundred and ten million! I wouldn't dare. The Drako family is so famous, I can't afford to offend them." The man's voice was full of mockery and a hint of sarcasm, as if he were taunting her.
