Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom

Chapter 864: The Power of the Legendary Pokémon

Even if it was a young Lugia, it was still a Lugia. No matter how small it was at the moment, it had a fearsome parent.

Even an organization as large as Team Rocket, after capturing a young Lugia, had been forced to release it when the real Lugia appeared to retrieve it. If the adult Lugia were to find out that Cain had tried to capture its offspring, he would be doomed.

Faced with this situation, Cain decided to put aside the idea of capturing it. However, he couldn't help but wonder just how powerful this legendary Pokémon truly was.

It was the first time Cain had encountered one of the most powerful entities in the world: a rank-one legendary Pokémon. Even though this young Lugia didn't hold a divine status like other legendary Pokémon, its very existence was exceptional.

Lugia once again showed a doubtful expression. It had felt a faint trace of hostile intent from Cain, but that feeling had quickly disappeared. Had it been a misunderstanding?

With a gentle flap of its wings, Lugia flew toward Cain and stopped right in front of him. It was the first time Cain had observed a Pokémon of this level up close. Not missing the opportunity, he activated the integrated analysis system.

Although in the past this system wouldn't have been able to gather data on a legendary Pokémon, recent upgrades made it possible.

Cain was left speechless upon seeing the data. He was thankful he hadn't acted impulsively when encountering the young Lugia. Not only did it have a formidable parent, but the young Lugia itself was also out of his league.

What truly stood out was its potential. Since Cain had started using the system, the highest quality level he had encountered in a Pokémon was the color Purple—not even Dark Purple.

Even Professor Oak's Dragonite, with its Champion-level strength, only reached the Purple tier. The same applied to the star Pokémon of future champions like Steven, Cynthia, and Diantha. Their best Pokémon didn't surpass the Purple quality tier.

However, this young Lugia had a Light Black quality color. Even though it was a lighter shade, the Black tier represented a qualitative leap above Purple.

Just as there was a significant gap between Light Purple and Dark Blue, the distance between Light Black and Dark Purple was even more pronounced.

A Pokémon with Light Purple quality had the potential to reach Champion level. But a Pokémon with Light Black quality... Cain couldn't even imagine its power limits. Maybe it had none.

There was no doubt: this young Lugia was a direct descendant of a rank-one legendary Pokémon.

Among the legendary Pokémon Cain knew, only Lugia had offspring. Others like Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, or the gods of space and time, Dialga and Palkia, didn't seem to have any.

Cain completely dismissed the idea of capturing the young Lugia. Taming a Pokémon with this level and quality wasn't an easy task—especially without equivalent strength.

The parent didn't even need to intervene; this young Lugia was already capable of going toe-to-toe with any elite-level Pokémon without significant disadvantages. Even experienced elite Pokémon would have trouble facing it.

Cain and Lugia stared at each other for about a minute. Lugia's eyes reflected curiosity, while Cain couldn't help analyzing every detail of the Pokémon.

At his side, Slowking remained still. There was an innate sense of respect toward Lugia that kept him calm, and he didn't sense any immediate threat from the young Pokémon.

"Riilss..." Ralts' soft voice broke the silence. The little Pokémon had woken up, stretching lazily in Cain's arms.

Ralts' call drew Lugia's attention, who turned its head to look at her. Cain gave a tense smile, aware that Ralts had just said the word "daddy."

With a yawn, Ralts noticed Lugia's presence and her eyes sparkled with joy. Thanks to the sensitive red appendages on her head, Ralts could feel the emotions of others. What she sensed from Lugia was an energy that felt extremely friendly.

Ralts softly called out again, this time directly addressing Lugia. Lugia hesitated for a moment before moving closer to Cain. The proximity allowed Cain to observe the intricate details of Lugia's skin.

With a red gleam in her eyes, Ralts gently floated from Cain's arms, naturally using her psychic abilities after training with Slowking. Slowly, she floated toward Lugia.

The two Pokémon looked at each other for a few seconds before sharing a smile. Ralts climbed onto Lugia's back, who showed no resistance and allowed her to sit comfortably.

Cain watched the scene in disbelief. His Ralts, riding Lugia—even if it was just playful—was something worth bragging about forever.

Lugia also seemed to enjoy the situation. Although it had sensed a hint of hostility from Cain at first, now it felt Ralts' pure and joyful energy. There was something else in her too—a feeling of familiarity it couldn't quite place.

Cain didn't interfere. If this interaction could strengthen the bond between them, there was no reason to stop it. He sat down on the sand, letting Slowking rest by his side as they watched Lugia fly Ralts around the island and through the camouflage field again and again. The laughter of the two Pokémon filled the air.

Not wanting to waste time, Cain began to meditate and train his own psychic ability while observing them.

When night fell, both Pokémon seemed exhausted after so much play. Cain suggested to Ralts that she invite Lugia to dinner.

Using all his culinary talent, Cain prepared a meal unlike anything Lugia had ever tasted. With that, he erased any bad impression that might have remained from their initial encounter.

Lugia was completely won over.
