Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 64: Chapter 64

After instantly defeating Yanma, Scyther surpassed Lian, taking the lead among all Pokemon.

Lian swiftly pursued, having eliminated Yanma. Now, it was just a race between him and Scyther, with the other Pokemon far behind and irrelevant to their competition.

Lian's speed was slightly faster than Scyther's, allowing him to closely trail behind, maintaining a distance of less than five meters.

This proximity hindered Lian from using his moves effectively, as Scyther continuously moved at high velocity, flapping its wings and leaping forward.

He needed to get even closer before launching an attack, ensuring greater accuracy; there were no other viable options.

Too slow!

Despite running at full speed for some time, Lian noticed that although he was gradually closing the gap, the progress was minimal. It would take significantly longer to catch up to Scyther.

"Let's try Swift."

Swift could strike opponents rapidly, with a degree of tracking ability, making evasion by sheer speed unlikely.

Moreover, casting Swift wouldn't impede his full-speed sprinting. At this point, Lian had gained control over the situation.

Since Scyther couldn't halt its momentum to attack him without sacrificing its lead, which was clearly not feasible at this point.

This meant only Lian could target Scyther, while Scyther had no immediate means of counterattacking.

As Lian sprinted at full speed, star-shaped glows gradually appeared around him, continuously orbiting his body.

In the next instant, these glowing stars swiftly flew towards the Scyther ahead.

Commentator Tina noticed this and focused the camera on Scyther, saying, "Charmeleon has used a move—it's Swift! Will it affect the Scyther?"

Upon realizing Lian released Swift, Scyther promptly reacted by leveraging its incredible speed to evade.

However, Swift moves exceptionally fast with tracking capabilities. No matter how agile Scyther tried to be, it couldn't shake off the stars, resulting in continuous impacts from each one.

Although individually weak, due to Lian's high Special Attack Attribute, the cumulative damage inflicted by Swift was significant.

Lian estimated that he had inflicted about one-fifth of Scyther's total stamina with Swift. Don't underestimate this damage; if it were an equally powered Hidden Power (Rock), it would have caused four times more harm.

Although still insufficient to defeat Scyther outright, it was enough to inflict significant injuries. If not for the challenge of maintaining high-speed accuracy with Hidden Power (Rock), Lian would have already deployed it.

Fortunately, Swift proved effective without hindering his own speed while damaging Scyther simultaneously.

As long as Scyther refrained from counterattacking, Lian could maintain control. Once Scyther retaliated, he would swiftly switch to another move and aim for an instant kill.

After being struck by Swift, Scyther continued rapidly flapping its wings, leaping across the grassland without returning fire.

Lian prepared another Swift, closely monitoring Scyther's movements to anticipate any sudden counterattack or ambush.

Beep beep beep!

Quickly employing the same tactic, Lian launched another Swift directly at the approaching Scyther.

Just then, Scyther abruptly halted, flapped its wings, and jumped upwards before turning towards Lian with a swift dive.

"A counterattack now?" Lian was startled by the cunning Scyther, which unexpectedly retaliated immediately after his move.

Swift continuously struck the Scyther but with minimal effect. As the Scyther lunged towards Lian, its wings glowed with a white light, clearly indicating the Wing Attack maneuver.

Despite closely watching the Scyther, Lian did not anticipate such a swift counterattack right after executing his own move.

"Oh no."

Lian couldn't abruptly halt his momentum and found himself charging directly at the Scyther.

In the next moment, as the Scyther closed in on Lian, it unleashed its Wing Attack. If hit, this powerful strike would undoubtedly cause severe injury, potentially rendering Lian unable to continue battling.

With no time to dodge, Lian could only hastily attempt to defend, knowing it might be futile but acting out of instinct.

Seconds later, the fierce attack collided with Lian, feeling like a sharp blade slicing through the part of his body impacted by the wings.

"Scyther unexpectedly counters with Wing Attack! Charmeleon has been struck. Will it withstand the impact?"

Commentator Tina continued her analysis, though her uncertain tone hinted that she knew Charmeleon couldn't fend off Scyther's Wing Attack. After all, Charmeleon typically had weaker defensive capabilities.

With a direct hit from such a powerful Wing Attack by Scyther, there was little chance for Charmeleon to continue fighting effectively.

In front of the big screen, Julian sighed, "Charmeleon is defeated, what a pity." From his perspective, it was clear that Charmeleon had lost.

Kalia shook her head, "The outcome isn't decided yet; don't rush to conclusions. Charmeleon won't go down so easily."

Having the deepest understanding of Lian, Kalia always found this Charmeleon quite enigmatic. She sensed that it wouldn't succumb effortlessly.

After being hit by the Wing Attack, Lian felt immense pain, akin to being slashed by a blade. However, he wasn't completely incapacitated just yet.

"At least it doesn't have the Technician Ability," Lian thought, now certain that this Scyther likely possessed Swarm instead of Technician.

Otherwise, that Wing Attack would have surely incapacitated Lian, but instead, he still had energy left.

"It's time for my counterattack!"

Lian rarely sustained such heavy injuries, feeling both discomfort and increasing anger, ready to launch his retaliation.

After striking Lian, Scyther maintained distance, seemingly realizing that Lian was not yet defeated. Its wings glowed with white light again, preparing for another assault.

In the air, commentator Tina was astonished. The Charmeleon had directly endured a Scyther's Wing Attack. She focused her attention on the Charmeleon, exclaiming excitedly, "The Charmeleon survived! I can hardly believe it. Whatever training method its Trainer employed, she must be an exceptionally skilled new Trainer."

As an experienced commentator, Tina had reviewed the Pokemon registration data and knew that Charmeleon's Trainer was indeed a newcomer. This fact made the Charmeleon's performance even more surprising and impressive.

"Truly held up!" Julian was stunned. He recalled his own Charmeleon having relatively weak defense, so why did Kalia's Charmeleon appear so resilient?

Kalia smiled, her gaze fixed intently on the big screen, as this was the critical moment—would Charmeleon defeat Scyther or succumb to it?

After regaining his footing, Lian swiftly unleashed Dragon Rage. The choice for this move stemmed from its reliability during crucial battles.

With all eyes on him, using Hidden Power could risk defeat even if it potentially overpowered Scyther. Typically learned through Move Disks, Hidden Power's elemental attribute is unpredictable.

Considering Kalia would soon challenge the Flying Type Gym, if Lian used Hidden Power with the same Rock attribute again, suspicions would inevitably arise—a predictable outcome.

On the other hand, while Charmeleon might not necessarily learn Dragon Rage, there was still a chance of mastering it.

Lian opened his mouth and released a burst of Dragon Rage, sending a powerful shockwave directly towards Scyther.

Simultaneously, Scyther initiated Wing Attack, preparing to leap forward. In mid-air, it had no means to dodge and was squarely hit by Dragon Rage.

Lian closely watched Scyther, knowing that defeating it hinged on this Dragon Rage move. Typically, two Swift attacks followed by Dragon Rage should be sufficient damage.

Meanwhile, other participating Pokemon were gradually catching up, but Lian remained unfazed. These opponents posed no significant threat to him; even if they surpassed his position momentarily, he could swiftly reclaim the lead, let alone they hadn't closed the gap yet.

Tina continued her commentary, "Charmeleon unleashed Dragon Rage, a highly challenging dragon-type move to master. Can Scyther withstand it?"

After a brief moment, Scyther reappeared, visibly severely injured. It struggled briefly before collapsing weakly onto the ground, losing its ability to continue battling.

Lian sighed with relief. Defeating Scyther was crucial, as none of the remaining Pokemon posed a significant threat to him now.

"Scyther has lost the ability to battle. It seems Charmeleon ultimately secures victory!" Tina exclaimed excitedly. Battles like these were rare at the Extreme Speed Conference, making her feel as though she were commentating on a major Pokemon tournament.

Lian accelerated rapidly. Although wounded, and not just minor injuries, fortunately, his speed wasn't significantly impaired.

The remaining two Pokemon contenders had caught up, but he quickly widened the gap again. As long as he maintained this pace, securing a spot for advancement seemed assured.
