Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Unique Electric Barrier
The principle behind Fire Punch is similar to Fire Fang; both involve enveloping a body part with flames for an offensive move. In Fire Punch, the claws are encased in flames before forming them into a fist.
However, wrapping flames around one's claws is not as straightforward. With a power rating of 75, mastering Fire Punch requires significant effort and practice. Despite numerous attempts, Lian couldn't quite grasp the technique.
Even after exiting the system space, he remained clueless. Learning Fire Punch proved much more challenging than Flame Burst. Unless Lian could observe a demonstration video, progress seemed elusive.

Early next morning.
After waking up, Lian stealthily approached Kalia's backpack. While she was still asleep, he began searching for Move Disks.
Surprisingly, he found two moves suitable for him to learn: one Steel-type Metal Claw Move Disk and another Steel-type Iron Tail disk.
Both these moves were Steel-type attacks, clearly not intended for his learning since he primarily used Special Attack moves, making them less beneficial for him.
However, for Lian, each move represented valuable Combat Points. He zipped up the backpack, planning to have Kalia play the disks later that night, then observe at the Pokémon Center when convenient.
First, it was time for some extra sleep.
Feeling it was early yet, Lian returned to his Poké Ball to catch more rest, knowing Kalia would wake him for meals as usual.
Much later...
After breakfast, Kalia set off with her Pokémon towards the Battle Tower, ready for another day of challenges.
As expected, their first opponent on the sixth floor was Moka. His punctuality never wavered; he consistently challenged Kalia first every day without fail.
Whenever Lian saw Moka now, he envisioned abundant Combat Points. In battles against Moka's Pokémon, Lian couldn't afford any mistakes—he had to ensure victory without taking damage, crucial for maintaining a high combat rating.
After defeating Moka, the real battles of the day began. Lian decided not to return to his Poké Ball and stayed outside with Kalia, awaiting challengers.
Soon, the door opened.
The challenger was a short-haired youth, appearing slightly older than Kalia. The sixth floor of the Battle Tower predominantly featured young adults, while teenagers were less common; they typically competed on the fourth or fifth floors more often.
Kalia didn't underestimate her opponent, as she had never encountered this particular challenger before. He could have just ascended from lower levels, winning battle by battle.
Despite looking calm, the short-haired boy showed no sign of arrogance. Instead, he tightly gripped his Poké Ball, ready to release it at any moment.
Seemingly disinterested in conversation, Kalia remained silent, patiently waiting for the match to commence.
With the robot referee's signal, the battle began.
"Charmeleon."
"Go, Yellow!"
The short-haired boy tossed his Poké Ball, releasing a yellow Pokémon onto the battlefield—an Electric-type Ampharos.
Ampharos evolves from Flaaffy, and except for rare early evolutions, its minimum evolution level is 30.
Lian studied the Ampharos closely, noticing occasional sparks flickering across its yellow skin. This suggested that the Ampharos likely possessed the Static Ability.
The Static Ability is quite troublesome; close contact has a high chance of causing Paralysis. Therefore, Lian must avoid direct engagement with the Ampharos during this battle.
While Ampharos isn't exceptionally fast, it boasts strong defensive capabilities and a high Special Attack. Additionally, it possesses irritating status moves like Thunder Wave and Cotton Spore, which can easily catch opponents off guard if not careful.
"Yellow, use Double Team," commanded the short-haired boy. Many Trainers enjoy naming their Pokémon to foster a closer bond with them.
Immediately upon his command, the Ampharos employed Double Team, becoming blurry as six distinct clones appeared simultaneously.
Seven Ampharoses lined up, making it difficult to discern the real one. Even more challenging, each clone moved differently, exhibiting unique actions.
Impressive! Lian marveled. Typically, Double Team clones move synchronously, but these Ampharos clones had varied movements. This could either be due to specialized training or exceptional control over ordinary energy.
Lian leaned towards the former explanation, as improving Energy Control Rating is notoriously challenging, especially for Electric-type Pokémon. It was likely the result of targeted training.
"Charmeleon, use Swift to locate the true form," Kalia commanded. Double Team was a common transformation move she had encountered numerous times.
Since all duplicates were false, using Swift to target and eliminate them one by one would suffice—a strategy derived from battle experience.
At that moment, Lian noticed tiny electric particles emerging around the battlefield, gradually filling the area.
He realized Ampharos had been continuously releasing these electric particles, clearly preparing for this tactic beforehand.
Lian promptly unleashed Swift, forming star-shaped beams of light that swiftly shot towards Ampharos.
As each duplicate fell, the star-shaped beams seemed affected by the electric particles, acquiring a layer of electrical arcs.
After eliminating the duplicates, only the real Ampharos remained. However, when Swift struck its true form, the damage dealt appeared minimal.
"Ion Deluge." Kalia immediately recognized the move Ampharos had employed—the Electric-Type Ion Deluge. This ability saturates the surroundings with electric particles, causing Normal-Type moves to become infused with electricity, transforming their nature into Electric-Type.
Observing the free-floating electric particles around him, Lian felt a sense of foreboding. Although Ion Deluge primarily transforms Normal Type moves into Electric Type, its effects could sometimes have additional consequences.
"Yellow, use Charge!"
"Charmeleon, use Flamethrower!"
The short-haired boy commanded, opting not to attack directly but instead using the Charge move, which enhances Special Defense and boosts the power of the next Electric Type move.
Unconcerned with his opponent's intentions for Ion Deluge, Lian focused on swiftly defeating them and promptly unleashed Flamethrower.
Gathering intense orange-red flames in his mouth, he propelled the scorching inferno towards the opposing Ampharos.
As Lian released Flamethrower, Ampharos simultaneously initiated Charge, causing sparks to flicker across its body with crackling sounds.
With the Charge move activated, all surrounding electric particles began converging towards Ampharos.
Instantly, Ampharos absorbed these electric particles, creating a unique electrical layer adhering to its yellow skin.
Although Flamethrower accurately hit Ampharos, upon impact, the electrical layer seemed to resist the flames, emitting sizzling sounds.
After executing Flamethrower, Lian swiftly followed up with Dragon Rage. With his increasing mastery over energy control, this combo was executed flawlessly.
Before Ampharos could react, it was struck by the shockwave. However, the electrical layer once again absorbed most of the impact, allowing only a small fraction to affect Ampharos.
To Lian's surprise, even after enduring both Flamethrower and Dragon Rage, the electrical layer remained intact.
The Charge move enhances Special Defense ability values, and he recalled that the boost from Charge typically lasts until the end of battle. But this electrical layer seemed far stronger than a typical Charge effect.
Lian suspected that this enhanced electrical layer might be due to absorbing a significant amount of electric particles during the Ion Deluge move.
