Pokemon Barry Version

Chapter 20: Excessive Spending

"Do you have a trainer ID?" Officer Jenny asked the boy in front of her.

Barry blinked at the question his hand went instinctively to his pocket as he brought out his pokédex, as soon as he brought it out Officer Jenny's face morphed into one of surprise but it quickly faded and went back to her serious expression.

Barry kept his pokédex back in his pocket after seeing it wasn't needed anymore.

"You're from Pallet town, aren't you?" She asked Barry.

"No, I was staying in Pallet town recently. I'm from Viridian city." Barry answered.

"Well, If you see anyone suspicious inform me. Lately there's been some shady activities in Viridian city." She said before she made way for Barry to pass.

'It's funny how Team Rocket's main base is here yet she's acting like Viridian is a sacred place.' Barry thought.

Viridian city was bigger than Pallet town by a lot, but as soon as he entered he found out this place resembled the 90's.

The city had a nostalgic feel, with simple, low buildings painted in calm pastel colors. He streets weren't busy as it was evening now and most people should be at home with their families, only some people were on the street with their Pokémon.

The pokédex was only programmed to show maps in the wilderness, if he wanted to locate the Pokémon center he would have to ask for directions.

After asking Barry realized something, if he had the memories of the original owner of the body he wouldn't be here. He became wary of people that would recognize him by avoiding all the orphanages.

The Pokémon center was located at the center of the city and the Pokémon mart located not too much after it. There were also other stores that sold Pokémon items but Pokémon marts still existed.

After a 25 minutes' walk he arrived at the Pokémon center.

It stood out from the rest of the city's architecture looking more modern and much larger.

It had the classic red roof while the rest of the parts were painted white, on the right side a red image of a pokéball and the letters "Pokémon Center" were adorned under the image.

"A classic Pokémon center." Barry muttered to himself as he entered inside.

There were 4 tables in the lower floor, two of them near the door and the other two farther from each other. There were also chairs to accompany the table of course.

"Welcome to the Pokémon center." Nurse Joy, a pink-haired woman, greeted Barry warmly as he walked to the counter. Her voice was gentle, soothing to the voice of a weary trainer. "How can I help you?"

"Could you help me check the health of my Pokémon?" Barry asked as he handed her his pokéballs containing Pidgey and Nidoran.

Nurse Joy nodded as she placed the pokéballs in a tray and began walking away, but not before giving the boy in front of a reassuring smile.

"Nurse Joy, is there somewhere that I can learn how to make Pokémon food?" Barry asked her before she left to examine the Pokémon that had been handed to her.

Her face lightened up as she looked at the trainer in front of her, Barry on the other hand almost blushed from the intense look she was giving him.

"Nurse Joy?" Barry said again, the woman had been looking at him for a long time.

"Oh, of course." She blushed slightly. "Normally most trainers buy the food that the Pokémon mart sell but I'm glad to see that someone wants to learn how to treat their Pokémon right."

"If possible could I also be directed to a place that teaches how to cook?" He added.

"Hmm, if you're interested in buying the equipment for making Pokémon food the pokémart sells and I'm willing to give you some recipes on making Pokémon food for specific Pokémon." Nurse Joy said.

"Thank you very much." Barry thanked the nurse.

"No problem, just make sure to treat your Pokémon well." She said before leaving.

"I'm sorry but could you repeat that?" Barry said, it seemed like his ears weren't working as they used to.

"Of course, 1000 poké for the full set." The clerk said with a grin.

While his Pokémon were getting checked Barry had gone over to the pokémart to buy the equipment, they weren't as big as the bag so they would enter it.

He had attempted to buy the blender and the other things but he had now realized what Prof. Oak meant when he laughed. He needed good spending habits because things were too expensive.

To buy the junk food that he had fed his Pokémon with yesterday night was a measly 50 poké, but to buy the lowest grade of this was 1k.

Noticing the customer was spacing out he said again. "1000 poké for the lowest grade set."

Barry snapped out of his daze, he reluctantly fetched his Silph Co. bag from his shoulder and brought out his wallet, placing exactly 1000 poké in the clerk's hands.

With a sour expression he stepped out of the pokémart, he had gotten what he wanted.

He went back into the Pokémon center, once again the lower floor was empty, he and nurse Joy were the only people there. She had a tender smile as she looked at him.

"Were you able to get it?" She asked.

"I was able to afford it so I bought it." He said.

"Good. I am glad to inform you that you're Pokémon are in prime condition, you must be a good trainer." She smiled as she handed him his pokéballs.

Barry thanked her as he clipped the pokéballs to his belt.

"Can I rent a room?" Barry asked.

"Of course, that would be 200 poké for a night, 100 poké for food, an additional 100 poké for your pokémon's food and the 30 poké you are initially owing for the checkup… If you're planning to pay everything that would 430 poké." Nurse Joy said with a professional smile.

Barry laughed, prof. Oak wasn't joking in the least when he was implying that the money wasn't much and he was only given 10 k!

"Alright, would you excuse me I would like to talk to someone?" Barry asked.

"The communication room is on the second floor." Nurse Joy informed Barry as he walked up the stairs.

He encountered several computers and went to the first one, instead of a typical keyboard he saw a keyboard with large numbers on it.

Without a second thought he typed Prof. Oak's private line, his public line was the one he barely answered and he had given all of them his public line.

The PC rang…

After some seconds Professor Oak picked the call.

"Who's there?" The professor asked as he fumbled with something.

"Professor it's me, Barry."

"What, Barry is that you, have you reached Pewter city already?" Professor Oak asked.

"No, I actually just arrived in Viridian."

"Just arrived?! The others are in Pewter getting ready for their first gym battle."

"I got lost on my way here and was then attacked by a group of Rattatas that wanted to steal all my belongings." Barry explained.

"Hmm." Professor Oak seemed to be contemplating something. "A group of Rattatas, Red and Blue already caught Rattatas and they weren't attacked. It seems like you must have captured their next leader by mistake."

'Next leader, it was only a single tackle and it was down for the count.'

"About the Pokémon I caught should I send them to you?' Barry asked.

"When we're done with the call send them over." Professor Oak was about to hang up.

"Professor, I have a reason for calling."

"Yes, my boy."

"Is there any extra details in the sponsorship that I missed?"
