Pokemon: Ace's Adventures!

Chapter 20: Chapter 20:Null!

The sound of departing sirens faded into the distance as Officer Jenny and her team left the Oak Laboratory. After taking thorough statements and ensuring the safety of everyone present, she had promised to increase patrols around Pallet Town to prevent further incidents.

Inside the lab, the atmosphere had shifted from tense to relaxed as Ace, the professors, and the girls gathered around a long dining table for lunch. The savory aroma of freshly prepared food wafted through the air, and the chatter of Pokémon enjoying their meals could be heard from the backyard.

Professor Oak raised his glass of juice with a warm smile. "Ace, I want to thank you once again. Without your quick thinking and bravery, who knows what might have happened."

Ace scratched the back of his white hair sheepishly, a slight blush coloring his cheeks. "It's really no big deal, Professor. I just did what anyone else would have done in my place."

Rowan adjusted his glasses, his stern face showing a rare hint of a smile. "I beg to differ. Not everyone your age would have acted with such courage and composure in a situation like that."

Birch chuckled heartily, leaning back in his chair. "Rowan's right. At your age, none of us professors were half as brave—or as competent, for that matter!"

The other professors erupted into laughter, with even Rowan's deep chuckle joining the chorus. Ace tried to laugh along but couldn't help feeling a little embarrassed.

Sycamore, the youngest of the group at twenty-five, leaned forward, his dark eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What stood out to me, Ace, is the bond you've formed with your Pokémon. Especially your Smeargle. Watching you all in action was incredible—you're not just strong; you trust each other completely. How did you manage to create such a connection in such a short time?"

Ace let out a small chuckle as he scratched his chin. "I don't know, honestly. It's like… Pokémon and I just click, you know? We understand each other pretty quickly."

As he spoke, a thought crossed his mind. 'Could it be my aura? Every living being has one, but only a few people can harness it. Or maybe it's related to psychic abilities or even the Viridian power? Then again, what if it's something completely new because of me being from another world?' He shook his head lightly, trying not to get too lost in speculation.

The girls, who had been listening intently, began to share their own experiences with their Pokémon.

Dawn sighed, folding her arms. "I wish I had that kind of connection with Piplup from the start. He barely listened to me at first! I had to bribe him with berries just to get him to follow simple commands."

May laughed nervously. "That's nothing! Torchic actually used Ember on my head the first time I picked him up. My hair smelled like smoke for days!"

Serena smiled softly, brushing a strand of honey-colored hair behind her ear. "Fennekin's been sweet from the beginning, but I learned the hard way that she absolutely hates getting dirty. She'll sulk for hours if there's even a speck of mud on her fur."

The table erupted into laughter at Serena's confession, the lighthearted mood spreading to everyone present.

Sycamore leaned back in his chair, a look of satisfaction on his face. "It's moments like these that remind me why I became a Pokémon researcher. The bonds between trainers and their Pokémon truly are extraordinary."

While the laughter and cheerful atmosphere lightened the room, Ace couldn't ignore the question nagging at the back of his mind. He noticed the girls shifting in their seats, clearly uneasy but not saying anything. Taking a deep breath, he decided to break the silence.

"Professor Oak," Ace began, his tone more serious now, "why did Sin attack you all? What could he possibly want from the four of you?"

The chatter around the table immediately ceased, and the professors exchanged grim looks. The air grew heavy with tension as they each seemed lost in thought. Finally, Oak let out a weary sigh and placed his elbows on the table.

"Since you're sponsored by Professor Cerise, Ace, and you girls are sponsored by Sycamore, Birch, and Rowan," Oak started, glancing at the others for confirmation, "I believe it's only fair that you know. This isn't information we would typically share, but given your involvement today… you deserve to understand."

The other professors nodded in agreement, their expressions equally somber. Oak reached into his coat and pulled out a photograph, placing it face-up on the table for everyone to see.

Ace's eyes widened as he leaned in, his heart pounding in his chest. The photo was blurry, but the details that were visible sent a chill down his spine.

'What the…?' he thought, staring at the image.

The first thing that caught his attention was the black hole—a swirling, ominous void that looked strikingly similar to the Dark-type Z-Move, Black Hole Eclipse. Then, his gaze moved to the crown-like crystalline structure atop the creature's head, gleaming with an unnatural light.

But what shocked him the most was the sheer size of the creature. 'It's a giant… that means it's Dynamaxing,' Ace realized, his thoughts racing.

His mind continued to piece together the terrifying details: the faint energy of a Mega Evolution symbol fading in the background and the unmistakable signs of Tera Crystals adorning the Pokémon. This meant it had Mega Evolved, Gigantamaxed/Dynamaxed, and Terastallized, all while seemingly using a Z-Move.

The girls leaned in closer, their faces pale. Dawn clutched the edge of the table, her voice barely above a whisper. "What… what is that thing?"

May shivered, hugging herself. "It doesn't even look real… how is something like this even possible?"

Serena remained silent, but her hands trembled slightly as she stared at the image.

Ace, meanwhile, was frozen. His mind whirred as he tried to place this Pokémon in his memory. 'This can't be real,' he thought, his brows furrowing. 'I've watched the anime, read the manga, and played the games. There's nothing like this. Is this… some kind of new Pokémon? Or is it something entirely different? How could something like this even exist?'

Oak's voice broke through the heavy silence. "We don't know much about this Pokémon," he admitted, his tone grave. "This photo was taken by chance, and it's the only surviving record we have. The environment it appeared in seems to be connected to its powers, but we're still trying to piece together the details."

Rowan adjusted his glasses, his expression stern. "This Pokémon is unlike anything we've ever seen. If it's capable of using all these forms of power simultaneously, it could pose a catastrophic threat to both humans and Pokémon alike."

Birch nodded, his usual cheerful demeanor replaced with a rare seriousness. "The fact that it can use a Z-Move on top of everything else… it defies all logic. We have no idea how it came to be, or what its motives are, if any."

Sycamore leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "And that's why Sin was so interested in us. He must have caught wind of our research and wanted this information for himself—or for whoever he's working for."

Ace's expression turned even more serious as he looked at the professors. "Do you at least know what type of Pokémon this is?" he asked, his voice steady but laced with urgency.

The professors exchanged uneasy glances, their hesitation speaking volumes. Finally, Oak broke the silence, his voice heavy with concern.

"That, Ace," he began, "is the biggest thing that scares us about this Pokémon."

Ace's heart sank at Oak's words. 'What could be so terrifying that even the professors are shaken like this?' he wondered.

Oak continued, "From what we've gathered, this Pokémon appears to be capable of using attacks of all types."

"All types?" Serena echoed, her voice trembling slightly.

Dawn blinked, trying to process the information. "But… that's impossible, right? No Pokémon, that atleast I know of, can use attacks from every single type."

May nodded in agreement. "Even Ace's Smeargle can learn the others moves through Sketch. This… this is something else entirely."

Oak sighed, his expression grim. "As for its own typing… we can't be sure."

The girls exchanged nervous glances, and Ace's mind raced. 'A Pokémon that can use every type of attack but has an unknown type? That makes no sense. Only Mew, Arceus, Silvally, and Smeargle with Sketch can learn moves of all types. Is this thing even a natural Pokémon?'

Rowan, who had remained silent until now, spoke up, his voice low and serious. "There's more to this story," he said, causing everyone's attention to shift to him.

He adjusted his glasses and continued, "The team that originally discovered this Pokémon paid the ultimate price. They…" He hesitated for a moment before continuing, his tone grim. "...they didn't survive. The entire team perished while trying to escape from it."

The room fell silent, the weight of Rowan's words settling over them like a dark cloud.

Birch nodded, his usual cheerful demeanor nowhere to be found. "The only reason we know what little we do is because some of the team's research materials were recovered. They'd managed to transmit some of their findings before… before it was too late."

Sycamore added, his tone somber, "What remains of their work is all we have to go on. But even that is incomplete. The Pokémon's full capabilities, its motives, and its origins—none of it is clear."

Ace clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white. 'An unknown Pokémon capable of such destruction... It's no wonder the professors are so shaken. But how did something like this even come to exist? Was it natural? Or… created?'

Ace's thoughts were racing. He glanced at Smeargle, who was resting outside with the other Pokémon, then looked back at the professors. "Could that Pokémon have the ability to use Sketch? Like my Smeargle?" he asked, his voice filled with curiosity.

The professors exchanged thoughtful looks.

"That could be a possibility," Oak admitted, stroking his chin. "But it's not something we can confirm just yet. It might not even be Sketch—it could be an entirely different mechanism we've never seen before."

Rowan adjusted his glasses, his scholarly tone kicking in. "In theory, with many evidence through historical texts, there are only a few Pokémon with the potential to wield all moves. Mew, as the progenitor of Pokémon DNA, and Arceus, as the supposed creator of the world, are two examples besides Smeargle who can use Sketch. If this Pokémon shares similar traits to Mew or Arceus, it could very well be a legendary Pokémon, or something close to it."

Sycamore interjected with a grave expression, "And if that's the case, then it's even more terrifying. A legendary Pokémon—one that has already demonstrated its ability to use four power-enhancing phenomena like Gigantamaxing, Mega Evolution, and Terastallization, while being able to repeatedly use Z-Moves—is nothing short of a catastrophe waiting to happen. It has already shown it's bloodlust to kill people."

The gravity of Sycamore's words hung in the air like a storm cloud.

May hesitated, her voice shaky. "What… what is this Pokémon called?"

Serena and Dawn turned their anxious gazes toward the professors, their fear evident in their wide eyes. Even Ace felt a chill run down his spine as he awaited the answer.

The professors looked at one another, beads of sweat forming on their brows. Finally, Oak took a deep breath and spoke, his voice barely above a whisper:

"Null."

The room froze, the weight of that single word pressing down on them like a physical force.

Suddenly, the scene shifted, pulling the perspective away from the group and into a dark, foreboding dimension. The air seemed heavy with malice, the space around warped with swirling hues of black and purple. The very fabric of reality twisted in this place, giving off an oppressive, otherworldly aura.

In the center of the void stood a massive, shadowy Pokémon, its form almost indiscernible beneath the cocoon of black flames that enveloped it. The flames flickered with an unnatural intensity, as if alive, and radiated an ominous energy.

The creature's eyes were closed, its body eerily still, as if in hibernation. But then, for a brief moment, its eyes snapped open.

They were bloody red, glowing with a malevolent light, and slit with an unholy yellow. The gaze lasted but a second before the Pokémon's eyes shut once more, and the cocoon of flames pulsed ominously, as if it were alive.

The void seemed to grow darker, and a deep, distorted Roar echoed faintly through the dimension, incomprehensible yet filled with malice.

And then, just as suddenly, the vision vanished, leaving only the heavy silence of the lunch table, where Ace, the girls, and the professors sat frozen in the wake of what they had just heard.
