Chapter 4: The Rising Tide of the Awaken Runic Tattoos
Drake floated downward, motionless in the deep ocean, the light above him fading as the water grew darker. His mind swirled with thoughts, a desperate yearning rising in his chest. "I want to get stronger," he thought, his voice echoing in the silence of his consciousness.
But another voice emerged, darker and full of doubt. "No, we can't," it sneered. "We can't become stronger if we can't even defeat the captain. Give up on becoming a pirate. We are losers."
Drake's brows furrowed, his lips twitching with resistance. "No," he thought firmly. "I am not a loser."
Suddenly, faint light began to emanate from his hands. A soft blue glow shimmered on his right hand, while a golden hue danced on his left. The doubtful voice grew louder, more insistent. "We are not strong!"
"No!" Drake thought, his resolve hardening. "I am stronger. I need to be stronger."
The glow on his hands intensified, the light growing brighter and more radiant. The voice hissed angrily, "You can't have power!"
Drake's eyes snapped open, filled with determination. "I will get the power I deserve!" he thought, his voice ringing out in defiance.
The glowing light from his hands flared brilliantly, illuminating the surrounding water. The voice grew desperate. "Nobody will know your name!"
Drake's expression turned into a fierce grin, his determination unwavering. "No," he said aloud, his voice a whisper lost in the ocean depths. "They will. The world—the pirate world—will know the name of Drake Solace!"
With those words, the radiant light erupted from his hands, transforming into a brilliant aura. A translucent blue status screen appeared before him, the words glowing with an otherworldly energy.

Drake's eyes widened as he read the screen. Drake's heart raced as he read through the descriptions. The tattoos pulsed with energy, synchronizing with his growing resolve. The ocean seemed to calm around him, as if acknowledging his newfound power. The faint smile on his face grew. "This is just the beginning," he thought, gripping his glowing hands tightly.
Drake's body drifted downward until he finally landed softly on the ocean floor. He took a deep breath, realizing with amazement, "I can breathe underwater now… and I can talk!" His voice echoed in the still water, and he felt his wounds begin to mend, the surrounding water gently healing him. A determined smile spread across his face as his newfound powers surged within him.
"Let's end this," he said firmly, his blue eyes glowing with resolve. He stood up, steadying himself on the sandy seabed. Looking up toward the distant surface, he clenched his fists, his runic tattoos glowing faintly. "I'm coming," he whispered, pushing off with powerful legs. His body shot upward like an arrow, slicing through the water with incredible speed. As he ascended, he activated his new skill, shouting, "Abyssal Chains!"
Above the surface, the crew of the Scarlet Vortex stood on the deck, murmuring amongst themselves.
"You think he's done for?" one crew member asked skeptically.
"He's been underwater for a while," another muttered. "Maybe the captain overdid it."
Garrick crossed his arms and smirked. "Boss, did you kill the boy or something?"
Captain Kael laughed heartily, leaning casually against the railing. "Kill him? Not yet. The kid's got fight in him. I wouldn't be surprised if he's scheming his comeback right now."
Selene, perched elegantly on the edge of the deck, tilted her head, her crimson eyes glinting with amusement. "If he does come back, I'll be impressed. And if he doesn't… well, at least he made a memorable exit." She smirked, her tone dripping with flirtation.
Kael opened his mouth to respond when the water below began to rumble violently. The ship rocked slightly, and the crew staggered to keep their balance. Everyone turned their attention to the churning waves.
"What's happening?" one crew member shouted.
"Something's coming!" another yelled, pointing toward the disturbance.
Garrick's eyes narrowed. "What in the hell is he doing down there?"
Kael's grin widened. "He's not done yet."
Selene leaned forward, intrigued. "Oh, this should be good," she said, her voice laced with anticipation.
Suddenly, tendrils of water burst from the ocean's surface, lashing onto the deck and gripping it tightly. The crew scrambled back, some drawing their weapons in alarm. Before anyone could react further, a figure shot out of the water and landed on the pier with a thunderous impact.
The air grew still as everyone turned to see who it was.
"Drake!" several voices exclaimed in unison. The crew, Kael, and Selene all stared in shock.
Drake stood tall, water cascading off his frame, his runic tattoos glowing brilliantly on his hands—one blue and the other golden. He looked up, meeting the captain's gaze with a determined grin. "I'm not done yet!"
Drake stood tall, water cascading off his frame, his runic tattoos glowing brilliantly on his hands—one blue and the other golden. He looked up, meeting the captain's gaze with a determined grin. "I'm not done yet!"
Kael's grin widened further. "I am going to enjoy this," he said, raising his sword.
Drake smirked, gripping his weapon tightly. "Me too! Skill: Thunderclap Dash!" His runic tattoos flared with light as his body vanished in a blur of speed.
The crew gasped, scanning the pier frantically. "Where did he go?" one muttered.
Selene raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Impressive. Let's see what he does next."
From every direction, a voice echoed, "Skill: Wind Slash x60!" Blades of wind shot toward Kael from all sides, creating a chaotic vortex. Kael stood in the center, deflecting the attacks with swift, calculated movements, his smirk never fading.
Garrick crossed his arms, nodding in approval. "That's some clever strategy."
Selene's crimson eyes sparkled. "The rookie is full of surprises."
Kael laughed heartily. "Good boy, very good! But I'm not done yet, boy! Skill: Tremor Generation!"
The pier began to shake violently, cracks forming as the ground trembled. Drake stumbled and fell hard onto the wooden planks. "Woah!" he exclaimed, wincing as he hit the ground. "That hurt."
Kael strode toward him, towering over him. "Nice try, kid. Now, let's finish this," he said, raising his hand as stones began to hover around him, crackling with energy.
Drake grinned despite the situation. "Yeah, but I'm not done either, Captain! Skill: Abyssal Chains x6!" Tendrils of water burst from the pier, wrapping tightly around Kael and holding him in place. Kael blinked in surprise, then let out a booming laugh.
"Good job, kid," he said, his voice filled with approval. "But you know this won't hold me, right?"
Drake nodded, his grin widening. "Yeah, but I'm not finished! Combo Skill: Stormcall + Skyborne Fury!"
The sky darkened, thunder rumbling as lightning streaked through the clouds. The crew stared in awe, murmuring amongst themselves.
"What kind of power is this?" one whispered.
Garrick's jaw tightened as he watched the scene unfold. "The kid's pulling out everything he's got."
Selene's eyes widened, her usual smirk replaced with genuine surprise. "He might actually pull this off," she murmured.
Kael looked up at the storm forming above him and chuckled. "Not bad, rookie. Not bad at all."
The combined skills unleashed a powerful lightning strike that crashed down toward Kael. The first hit landed, causing an explosion of energy, but Kael deflected the second with his sword. Before anyone could react, Kael appeared in front of Drake, his sword raised.
Drake, anticipating the move, brought his blade up. Their swords clashed, each pressing against the other's neck. Behind Kael, the Abyssal Chains floated menacingly, poised to strike.
The pier fell silent as the crew stared in shock. Garrick stuttered, "This… this is a draw."
The silence broke as everyone yelled in disbelief. "What?!" echoed across the dock, their voices a mixture of shock and admiration.
Selene leaned back, a playful grin returning to her face. "A draw? How unexpected."
Kael laughed heartily, stepping back from Drake. "You've got guts, kid. I haven't had this much fun in years."
Drake smirked, lowering his weapon. "Thanks, Captain. I couldn't have done it without you."
They both laughed together, the tension dissipating as the crew continued to shout their opinions in the background.
