Chapter 199: DarkHeavens
It has been a week after my declaration of war at Bastet, and the numbers of mercenaries joining Ann and Pearl's new team—The Visionary Fighters they called themselves—kept increasing.
I've met up with Akira and we shook hands, she agreed to join me for a better cause. I still haven't got the chance to fuck her, though… God, her blue hair looked so sexy, but she's so upstanding and hetero-coded that if I try to press her I might start sounding like a groomer (by broader definitions of the word).
I went to meet with Jack from the Lion's Parade who were, as of now, the leader of the largest guild in VR and asked what he thought about the Visionary Fighters.
He said that the mercenary company offered collaboration on numerous occasions, but he was against it, quoting that he particularly disliked Pearl's idea of stirring up conflicts.
Jack agreed to help me whenever he could. Though, not at any large scale, meaning he wouldn't go for an all-out war against such a prominent opposing threat like the Visionary Fighters, since the whole game were just level 60 at best, and he'd want to progress the map until at least the Southern continent (after West and East) before trying to waste any more resources.
So, at the mean time, I can only borrow a handful of his members for a covert disruptances, got it.
Then, I thought of another person, one who probably would be willing to help me for… Relatively non-existant price.
I sent a text message to the woman and asked for a breakfast date in a coffee shop I liked… It was near our apartment, and quite quiet after 8AM. Perfect for two women to sit across from each other, eye-fucking and trying not to bring up the fact that they have a really weird relationship.
The woman I texted in question, was Tanya.
I ordered a croissant with coffee, and she just got a larger glass of coffee with no pastry, lame woman.
As Tanya finished stirring some milk into her glass, I noticed something in particular the way she held her coffee.
She'd place her entire palm over the rim, the spoon would be held between her index and middle finger, so that when she picked it up, she can drink it through the gap made by her index and thumb.
The spoon leaned into her eyebrows, her knuckle pressed on her right cheekbone, and her thumb rested against her chin.
Probably nothing worth noting, considering that Tanya was a strange person from start to finish.
I thought about bringing up some little small talk before getting into topic, I wanted to confirm my suspicion about her identity, and to invite her into my league.
But knowing Tanya, who never cease to surprise me, she spoke first.
"You've changed a lot, Cory."
The short-haired blonde woman with blue eyes kicked back, with one leg crossing over the other, her eyes resting as per usual, as her head slightly leaned towards the window next to where we sat.
"Yeah I noticed I've been getting fatter…" I looked down at my boobs, which felt less firm last time I groped them, but Tanya only laughed.
"I mean you dressed nice today."
I looked down at myself, and indeed… I was getting quite fashionable, with a very artistic looking white t-shirt, knee-high black skirt and sports sneakers, I almost looked like a stereotypical anime Japanese highschool student. I also thought about getting some eyeglasses with chains to complete the whole librarian look, but no pair of glasses were fitting enough for my fugly ass.
I looked over to her, she was wearing a kind of linen cotton, navy-blue buttoned shirt, accompanied by black jeans, giving her a masculine feel.
"Yeah well… I feel weird wearing the Sonders' dress." I answered, "Bought this with my unemployment checks… Though one might call fraud since I technically have a job as a bug finder."
"You are so cute," Tanya said, "You don't even realize how healthy you got, how outwardly your body language have gotten, and how clean your skin got, you're all grown now… Barely been any time."
I was startled by what she said, so I looked at my skin and immediately changed my posture as a defense mechanism, only for Tanya to shake her head.
"Excuse my observations, Cory. What do you need me for today?" She said.
"...Did I actually changed that much?" I muttered, still hang over by what she said prior "Is that a good thing?"
"It's subjective." She simply said.
"Are you saying that I seemed to be less of an celibute loser now and actually looks like a functional human being in society?"
"More or less, correct."
"Wow." I leaned back, taking a bite out of my croissant, "I guess I owe the Sonders more than I believe."
I paused, and Tanya didn't say anything, so I felt the need to add: "But now I feel like I have no identity. Being a femcel was what I got to excuse my poor action and decision makings, now I got to take accountability."
I saw a smirk on Tanya's lips as she passed her eyes to the outside window, as if not minding what I say.
"So… Tanya." I took a deep breath, "I'd assume you heard of the Visionary Fighters?"
"I have…" She turned to me, "And I heard that you're building an army against them, do you want to recruit me? Just a random player who stole your name?"
She lowered her voice at the end there, making it sound less sincere.
"Well, you see, Tanya!" I tilted my head, "You've always been a really, really, really strange person, you know?"
"Oh?" Tanya seemed rather intrigued, very much so, in fact, so much so that she leaned forward with both elbows on the table.
"I have been thinking… You never said that your name was stolen… You only said that you tried using the top 3 names… From DarkHeavens, SeeOh, then finally CJS69, my username, to squat it."
For the first time ever.
Literally, first time ever, EVER, since I've met this strange and enigmatic woman named Tanya who lived in the same apartment building as I am. The first time ever since we met on that bus and she let me be beaten to a pulp by a robber with a gun, then made it up by giving me a hot bowl of stew.
For the first time ever, Tanya smile wide, so wide that I see that she tried to keep her lips closed, but it still managed to part, and it became a wide grin of satisfaction and amusement.
"Go on." She said.
"Compounded upon that is… You were #3 contributor in the fight against the Titan of Ashen Bark Raid… And I'm not saying #3 contributor for individual player, you're the top #3 contributor total, and #1 contributor individually. Yet, someone like that just wanted to use a random name and stayed out of sight?"
"And you, you motherfucker." I stood up from my seat, leaning over to stare into her soul with my hands on the table, "Can shapeshift, which I've asked Eirlys about… And she said that just like how she gave me free passes from getting banned! The top 5 players all received some kind of 'small gifts' for their contribution to the game."
"Which means you're in the top 5."
She started laughing, and we caught the attention of the staff behind the counter, but neither of us really minded it.
"I know the Ministry of Agony of top #4, that guy is a prick, and The Method Actor #5 showed his face to the public many moons ago and is gay as fuck… Which means." I took a deep breath, "You are the most mechanically skilled player in the existent of Darkmoon Adventure, 'he who deserve to walk among the stars' they called you. You are DarkHeavens, nicknamed given: Unnamed Monarch."
I did not mention the #2 player, SeeOh… Because that player was most definitely someone else, since they're not known for their mechanical skills, rather for their generousity and leadership.
"So? What are you going to do?" She asked me, with both arms crossed in front of her chest.
Only then I realized I was leaning in so close that the table might break at any moment, and if I lean over any closer, I might actually kiss her in public.
I did something way more reasonable.
I got back to my feet, and knelt down to the floor of the local coffee shop.
Then, my head hit the floor right beside my hand.
"Please join me, Tanya! I have enough trouble having to fight a mechanical god like Valerie alone, if you're in it with Ann, we're totally screwed, so please, with your help, we can take them down!"
I got a little bit too loud, without noticing that another pair of patrons entered the shop and was staring at us from the clerk counter.
Tanya looked around contemplating for a second, before telling me to sit back up.
"What's in it for me?" She asked, "Why do you even want to take them down? They're not interfering with your gameplay."
"It's about principal! I have so much pent up anger against them and it's pity!"
I replied, while sitting up again and angrily munching on my delicious qua-son (croissant but pronounced funny). I sighed and added, "I will give you anything you ask for, anything."
Tanya then leaned into her hand.
"That's not something you should offer, especially without knowing how far the other person would demand."
"That's a risk I'm willing to take." I said.
