Chapter 195: Little Entrance
I waited and waited and waited. Another hour passed, my bowl was empty, two of them in fact, my head was hot, as does the grip on my fresh steel katana which haven't seen bloodshed.
My fingers tightened around the hilt until my knuckles whitened. If Ann didn't come online, if Pearl didn't show his rat face, then fine. Fine. Mei was still in there, and decapitating her would at least send a message. I usually don't harm women, but! That last sentence was a lie, I hurt woman on an anually basis, ba dum tss.
"Welp."
I stood up and stretched my neck, hearing cracks all over, soothing to the ear as I mentally rehearsed a clean diagonal slash, imagining the head being removed from that young and cute woman's body.
"Yup, I'm about to go inside and turn Mei into a cautionary tale if you're interested." I told Lady_Valerie, before turning away.
Then I froze.
A presence… I felt a player approaching, and for some reason, my instincts told me to take great notice of this presence. It's not anyone logging in, it was someone approaching me, this was a player feeling, bright and warm and ridiculously familiar.
Like, having a family, a loving wife and children, then the lamp looks weird.
I turned to the entrance of the Bastet restaurant, and saw a silhouette standing there, rim light's golden sunlight.
Gleaming white robes with gold trimmings, an energy staff she hugged and let it leaned on her shoulder, heavy metal boots which doesn't compliment her look but it was efficient, long fluffy white hair down to her calves, cyan eyes… It's…
"HAILIE?!"
The moment our eyes met, she lit up like a firework and sprinted across the restaurant.
"CORY!!!"
We crashed into each other so hard her staff didn't have a chance to reposition itself, almost stabbeingme in the groins.
She hugged me like she was trying to squeeze air back into my lungs. I instantly melted, dropping my katana plans entirely as I planted a small cheeky sneaky kiss on her face, too subtle that she probably didn't even noticed it.
But then I returned to confusion.
"W-Why are you here? Why- how- what? Do you have a quest in Klakku?" I sputtered.
She pulled back with a smile so bright it should've been a debuff.
"Well, I saw you were all the way over here!" she said cheerfully. "So I got curious!"
"You saw?" I blinked hard. "How so?"
She lifted her wrist, showing me the Bracelet of Eternal Friendship, the same half of a pair that I have.
"Oh, you never check it, do you?" she giggled. "It tracks where you are, duh, you told me that! And um, I've been reading the lore, Klakku sounds so cool! But Danielle is soooo far from Klakku, Cory! I wondered what you were doing here, are you expericing a new cuisine? Um- Basically I wanted to see what you were doing, and I used the new speed potions I bought! It only took like… thirty minutes of sprinting across the desert! Now I'm thirsty though."
"…Thirty minutes," I whispered, staring at her metal boots. "You sprinted across half a continent, using speed potions?."
"Mhm!" She beamed.
I stared at her beautiful bright eyes back at me, I stared at her glowing robe, and I stared at her like she had just announced she ate a live scorpion for breakfast.
That was a waste, not gonna lie… Speed potions are meant to help her escape pursuers in combat because she was a vulnerable piece of the team, but I guess it's okay since she's so cute she can make dumb decisions with no consequences.
Then she noticed the fashionita sitting near me, and her eyes widened.
"Oh! Hi, we never met before" She waved as if Valerie were a kindergarten teacher.
Valerie was just on her fourth bowl of noodles as raised two fingers, doing a peace sign for greeting.
"Cory, is this your friend?" Hailie asked innocently, "You never introduced me to her!"
I opened my mouth, half-thinking that I shouldn't answer, but Valerie got in there first.
"We actually met before," Lady_Valerie spoke, "I killed you once in that farming site."
At that point, I was half-expecting Hailie to pout and throw a tantrum and threw a few soft punches at the Paladin woman in anger, yet it didn't happen. Hailie only gasped in further excitement.
"Oh! OH! Were you wearing the cloak and using a broadsword?"
"Yes." Valerie nodded, "My username is Lady_Valerie, with an underscore."
"OH MY GOD THAT WAS YOU!" Hailie practically skipped toward her in great honour, "I'm Hailie! Um- Hello again! Um- Can I call you Valerie? I love your hair! And your horns! They're so pretty, can I touch them please? Just for a moment!"
Both Valerie and I were too stunned to speak, she even stopped chewing. And I was just disappointed that I'm the only one here that thought her hair was stupid.
"And your armor! And your scar! And your eyes! They look so cool! You're really amazing at designing your stuff! Ooh, are they like that in real life too? Um- Obviously except the horns, right? You don't actually have horns… Wait, do you? can you? could we?"
Valerie, the stoic, the terrifying, the deadly fashion icon… sat there being interrogated by a very enthusiastic white-haired cotton ball.
"I… yes, I have this exact scar, but it's more ugly on the outside," she said, "And… no, the horns are because I like dragons, but we can't get the dragonborn race yet."
Ah, I remember that… She used to play dragonborn race in the PC version. Fits quite well with her playstyle considering the added defense and resistance.
"Woahhh!" Hailie clapped her hands. "Amazing!!!"
I watched the whole thing with the same expression one might have while discovering a raccoon politely paying for groceries.
Before I could intervene, before Hailie could ask if Valerie's scars and hair had "lore," the kitchen door creaked open, but it seemed like I was the only one perceptive enough to see it.
Mei walked out, and put an index finger to her lips, telling me to "shh" as she smirked.
Her boots padded softly as she crept up behind Hailie.
Then… The terrifying villainy striked, as two hands grabbed Hailie's cheeks and pulled, startling the little girl.
"Boing boing~!" Mei sang, pinching Hailie's face like dough, just like she had done to me, "Yours' the best! The fluffiest and smoothest, even better than Cory over here."
"Hey." I protested, even though I had nothing to fight about, I don't care if she thought my cheeks are not fluffy!
"Ah! Is- Is that you Mei? Ouuuu ouch ouch oahhhh!" Hailie squeaked, voice muffled.
Mei stood there with a little smile, glancing over at Lady_Valerie, back and me, and finally at Hailie's nape as she was trapped in her grip.
And Mei grinned.
"Sooo… should we talk about the future of our adventure group? Hailie, and you too, Cory, since you're technically one of ours."
"Without Marc, Rina, Akira, or Pearl?" I squinted.
"Don't you worry." She smirked, "It's something that only concern you, and mostly Hailie for now."
