Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 1060: The Grove

The more hot-blooded people naturally found themselves a bit bored at times in the Peaceful Realm, although inhabited by giant wild creatures, those beings were ultimately neither beast nor monsters, they were but regular animals, without profound cunning, without any capability to wield energy- Merely big animals, that did the same thing as other animals, but just in a larger size.

So those whose inner nature desired a good fight ended up finding themselves not knowing what to do with their time, such people included Lizi and Louizon, it was a bit hard to the return to the peaceful monotony of this realm after experiencing true fights, and getting to sling spells with greater intent than ever before.

Louizon managed to entertain herself by learning magic, as although practical experience was important to a mage like her, a lot could still be done without having to be under pressure.

Practical experience was of dire importance to a swordswoman like Lizi, however, the progress made by just facing an opponent that was willing to kill made a world's difference, following the events of the Stagnant Realm, she felt as though, after digesting her gains properly, that her capabilities with the blade had more than doubled.

But there was something that she could not help but wonder about that took away from the sheer boredom of a life without adversity, and it's the fact that she clearly remembered what had happened back then in the Stagnant Realm, after Lady Fe had manifested an eye and seemingly knocked everyone out, whatever had happened that woke them up, the other two seemed to have a hole in their memory, but she did not.

She clearly remembered being transported to what seemed like a different space, and that odd being that had called himself 'Fallael'.

Lizi had felt like the place she had been in in that instant had been, at the very least, a recreation of a real place, here in the Peaceful Realm, and for now, seeking out this strange being that seemed to inspire trust was a good way for Lizi to combat boredom.

And who knows, maybe it will lead her to places where she can swing her sword without restrain…

The Peaceful Realm was a rather big place that had not been thoroughly explored, upon arrival back then, they had already been taken to an optimal area for them to leave, certainly an arrangement from Arzt, without a doubt.

As a result, however, quite a large amount of space had been left untouched, as everyone focused on building, ploughing fields and making a good life for themselves.

Though, they had seen that there were forests of giant trees in the distance, one of such forests was currently where Lizi was, walking through the overgrown, oversized nature with one hand constantly grasping the scabbard of her sword, and every so often, when an animal that didn't know better attempt to swat her away, she would let them see their own bodies from an angle they never could have before with a swift decapitation that left them unknowing that they had died for several seconds until everything went dark.

'What's up with those animals, anyways? Can't they tell that I am a threat? What a waste of perfectly good food…' the instincts of the animals around here were indeed pitifully nonexistent, if they have any idea what a human is, then they would steer clear of the area, and if they didn't, then they wouldn't approach a weird-looking thing they never saw before.

But no, it was like those giants were magnetised to her location and only knew half of the fight or flight response.

Resulting in all sorts of giant wildlife to meet its end against the edge of her blade.

On the bright side however, the giant trees were indeed reminiscent of what she had seen during that brief meeting with Fallael, she was certain of it, that guy was hiding out there, and for some reason, despite seemingly being a friendly force considering how he had helped Lizi and her siblings, Fallael had never deemed it worth his time to actually go out and inform people of his existence.

'Well, maybe he just doesn't want to speak with people unless absolutely required to…' that thought made her chuckle, that would make the old presence in the woods awfully similar to Alize.

The swordswoman came across a clearing, and watched as worker bees that were the size of rhinoceroses collected pollen and nectar from abundantly large flowers, at that size, they looked delectably fuzzy, making her want to grab and wrestle one to get a good feel of its, certainly, soft body.

But she held back.

Giant insects and bugs were rather rare where she and the others lived, but the further she went into the woods, the more common they became, including the far less cute ones, giant bees were adorable, and looked like perfect surfaces to nap upon.

However, such was not the case for the giant abominations that were this realm's centipedes, millipedes, and other too-many-legged-freaks, Lizi had to resist the temptation of weaving her mana into fire to cleanse their existence from her sight.

They weren't aggressive like the giants from before, so she held back from using violence against them and just kept going forward, ignoring the loud clicks they made when moving around, until eventually, she reached a small grove where natural activity was suspiciously low, the creatures of the forest seemed unwilling to pass through here, she watched a giant bear, an especially beefy one covered in scars, prefer to arch around the grove rather than go through.

Only to then immediately fight with a pack of huge wolves without even blinking, clearly, there was something here that frightened even the toughest fellows around.

But looking around, Lizi found no trace of anything, the grove was like many others she had encountered previously, there was no powerful creature, and no signs of one having ever been there either, and there was no peculiar plant that might be making the area into a no man's land.

Absolutely nothing.

Lizi rubbed her chin with a small smile.

To her, it looked like she had reached her destination, but where was Fallael? Was she supposed to do a ritual to summon him or something? Dance in circles? Bat her eyelashes and compliment that grey-furred body of his?

"Fallael? Come on, it's obvious that you're here, this is like… Exactly the same place I was in when I spoke to you last time… Actually, it's absolutely the same place, I recognise that weird mark on that tree over there"

"There is no mark on that tree, and it isn't the same place at all" an ancient voice rumbled throughout the forest.

"I know, I was just baiting you"

"It would seem that I fell for it, how embarrassing"

The old being chuckled, and Lizi saw the serpentine body extend in between trees.

She had found him.
