Chapter 1198: The Outcome
After communicating with Dai Annie, it was already past eleven in the morning, almost twelve.
At this time, the busiest hours in the village were almost over.
Chen Yang stayed at home with nothing to do, so he thought of going out for a walk and picking some wild mushrooms along the way to make a soup for lunch.
So, he went out for a stroll.
When he walked to the temperature-controlled room, the picking work in the room was almost done, and a group of aunts were about to finish their shift.
Seeing Chen Yang coming, the aunts greeted him warmly.
Chen Yang responded to each of them.
After some pleasantries, Li Xiaoe suddenly said worriedly, "Yang Zi, I heard yesterday Ma Wu caused trouble at your place, right?"
Chen Yang turned to look at Li Xiaoe, who was slim but had full curves: "Yes, Li Xiaoe sis, but I sent him away, and nothing happened."
Chen Yang thought Li Xiaoe was simply worried about him asking about this matter.
But in fact, the aunties already knew about what happened yesterday.
They raised this topic just to talk to Chen Yang about it.
"Yang Zi, Auntie thinks you should give that rascal a job," Li Xiaoe immediately said.
Chen Yang was a bit surprised upon hearing this.
"Why?" Chen Yang looked at Li Xiaoe in confusion.
Li Xiaoe shared her perspective: "Because that guy used to be a real scoundrel, notorious for having a strong revengeful spirit both near and far. If you don't provide him a job, who knows what kind of trouble he may stir? I think it's better to offer him something solid as a form of assistance."
Li Xiaoe's words were all well-intentioned and thoughtful for Chen Yang.
Other aunties also shared the same thoughts, wanting Chen Yang to give Ma Wu a job.
"Yes, Yang Zi, that ruffian used to terrorize the village, and everyone avoided him. Since you didn't offer him a job yesterday, he might already be planning revenge! It's better to give him a job." At this moment, Wang Hong also spoke up.
Chen Yang felt warmth in his heart hearing the aunties' words.
But on this matter, Chen Yang was not inclined to compromise.
Although others feared Ma Wu, he did not.
"Xiaoe sis, Aunt Wang, I understand your thoughts, but precisely because of his personality, I cannot give him a job!" Chen Yang stated seriously: "If I offer him a job, he'll think I fear him, and may even act more audacious in the future."
"I'm not afraid of him. If he wants revenge, let him come; at worst, I'll have him sent to prison again."
Chen Yang's face was calm, and his tone was even.
He didn't take Ma Wu seriously at all, nor was he worried about any potential revenge.
The aunties, seeing this, did not continue to persuade Chen Yang.
After all, Chen Yang was right. Ma Wu is not someone who should be treated too kindly; if indulged, he could become even more unruly.
"Yang Zi, you make sense, but you should still be careful, as that rascal is quite nasty," Li Xiaoe reminded.
"Mm-hmm, I'll be careful, thank you, sis, and aunts, for your concern,"
Chen Yang nodded, smiling as he expressed his gratitude for their concern. Then he picked some wild mushrooms and left the field to make lunch.
After lunch, Chen Yang soon received a call from the town bureau.
It was about the incident of property damage in the temperature-controlled room a few days ago, having reached a conclusion, inviting Chen Yang to come over and pick up the compensation fund.
Chen Yang was naturally pleased to hear this news.
He readily agreed, hung up the phone, and got ready to drive to town.
As soon as he stepped out of the house, he saw Wu Kexin, holding a briefcase, walking toward his place.
Seeing this, Chen Yang didn't rush to drive but waited in the car.
"Are you heading out?"
Wu Kexin walked to the side of the car and asked Chen Yang inside.
Chen Yang nodded with a smile: "Yes, I need to go to town. The case of the temperature-controlled room incident has concluded, and I need to sort it out."
Upon hearing this, Wu Kexin immediately circled around the front of the car, opened the passenger door, and sat inside.
"Perfect timing, I also need to deliver some documents to the town. Can you give me a ride?" Wu Kexin said with a smile.
"Of course, there's no problem at all."
Chen Yang chuckled, started the car, and headed toward town with Wu Kexin.
After a little over ten minutes, they arrived in town.
Chen Yang first dropped off Wu Kexin at the township office, then proceeded to the town bureau.
The two places were not together; there was still some distance between them.
"Kexin, once you're done, wait for me a bit. I shouldn't take too long," Chen Yang said as Wu Kexin got out of the car.
Wu Kexin nodded and entered the township office.
Chen Yang turned the car and headed to the town bureau.
The matter from that night was very straightforward, requiring almost no investigation.
Since the perpetrator was caught in the act, many processes were avoided.
This saved both the police and Chen Yang a lot of time.
At the town bureau, Chen Yang only needed to give a brief description of the events from that day.
Then, he made a simple estimate of the property damage in the temperature-controlled room, and that was it.
"Okay, we've got a clear understanding of your situation, but due to the limited capacity of the suspect, he can only compensate you seventy thousand. Do you have any opinions on this?" the police officer asked Chen Yang across the desk.
When it came to money, Chen Yang knew it was unlikely that the suspect could pay the full price.
After all, he wasn't considered well-off.
"I don't really have any opinion about this. I'm more concerned about how many years he'll be sentenced," Chen Yang asked.
Upon hearing this question, the police officer didn't hold back and directly told Chen Yang: "Don't worry, we'll definitely abide by the regulations. Although the suspect cooperated with the investigation, he will at least be sentenced to five years."
"Good, then there's no problem."
Chen Yang was satisfied upon hearing the five-year sentence.
The amount of compensation wasn't his main concern.
"Alright, if you have no objections, please sign the receipt for the compensation. Once it's signed, you can take the money and leave," the officer handed a document to Chen Yang.
Chen Yang took a look to ensure there were no issues with the document, then signed it.
He then completed some processes at the bureau and smoothly collected the compensation amount, seventy thousand.
After completing all the formalities, this matter was perfectly resolved.
Leaving the bureau, Chen Yang immediately called Wu Kexin.
He asked her how things were on her end.
"I've finished here, what about you? Have you arrived yet?"
Wu Kexin replied.
"I'm done too, heading over to pick you up now," Chen Yang said.
"Alright, I'm still at the office."
After the call, Chen Yang hung up and drove to the township office.
When he arrived, Wu Kexin was already standing at the entrance, holding her bag with both hands.
