Chapter 12: Extra: Cuteness Level: EXTREME (SCP 999)

CZ Delta was on her usual patrol route through the 9th floor of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Her boots made soft, rhythmic sounds against the polished marble floors as she silently navigated the opulent corridors. Her emerald right eye, the one not hidden behind her urban camouflage eyepatch, scanned her surroundings with practiced precision. The target-mark etched within her pupil seemed to fixate on every detail, every shadow, every potentially misaligned decoration.

She paid little attention to the grandeur of the surroundings, the intricate tapestries, or the strategically placed gold accents. Her mind was focused on her duty: ensuring the security of this floor, monitoring for any signs of unauthorized entry or malfunction. It was a straightforward task, one she performed with unwavering efficiency and a complete lack of emotional expression.

As she rounded a corner near the living quarters of the Pleiades, her target-marked eye registered an unexpected anomaly. A vibrant splash of orange disrupted the otherwise predictable color palette of the corridor. Her footsteps faltered, and she tilted her head slightly, processing the unexpected visual data.

Standing directly in her path, seemingly having materialized out of thin air, was a creature unlike anything she had ever encountered within Nazarick's walls or any records she had accessed. It was a completely round, amorphous blob of bright, almost glowing, orange. It jiggled slightly, its form soft and pliable, and short, stubby appendages that looked more like knobs than limbs occasionally twitched. There were discernible facial features, two eyes, a little mouth, and a smooth, vibrant surface.

CZ Delta approached cautiously, her hand instinctively moving towards the white gun holstered at her waist. It was an energy weapon, meticulously maintained and capable of disabling most threats, even magical ones, with precise targeting. However, she paused before drawing it, her analytical mind assessing the situation. The orange anomaly presented no immediate signs of hostility. It simply… jiggled.

She stopped a few feet away, her unwavering gaze fixed on the creature. It made no sound, no aggressive movements, simply a gentle, almost rhythmic pulsing of its orange form. Her internal database cross-referenced known entities within Nazarick. Nothing matched. It was an unknown variable.

After a moment of silent observation, the orange blob suddenly bounced. Not a large bounce, but a small, happy-looking jiggle that propelled it a few inches into the air before it softly landed again. It repeated this action, bouncing with seemingly undirected enthusiasm.

CZ Delta continued to watch, her expression unchanging. The creature – for lack of a better term – didn't seem threatening. It was… oddly cheerful in its movements. Unbidden, a single thought surfaced in her mind: It is… active.

Then, the orange blob turned towards her, or at least oriented itself in her direction. One of its stumpy appendages twitched, and it emitted a soft, bubbly sound that seemed to resonate with a strange, internal warmth. It began to wobble towards her, its movements awkward but undeniably enthusiastic.

CZ Delta remained motionless, allowing the anomaly to approach. Her internal processors whirred, analyzing its movement patterns, its rate of approach, its overall energy emission (negligible). As it drew closer, she noted its texture. It looked soft, almost like… gelatin.

When the orange creature was directly in front of her boots, it stopped. It tilted its amorphous form as if looking up at her. Then, it did something entirely unexpected. It reached out one of its stubby appendages – reaching upwards, towards her leg – and gently nuzzled against her armored greave.

The sensation was… strange. Not unpleasant, but unusual. A soft, yielding pressure against the cold, hard metal. The creature then emitted another of its bubbly sounds, a sound that inexplicably felt… happy.

CZ Delta tilted her head again, a microscopic movement, processing this new data. The creature wasn't attacking. It wasn't fleeing. It was… being affectionate? The concept was illogical, particularly directed towards her.

After a moment of hesitation, the orange blob began to exude a faint, almost imperceptible warmth. It pulsed gently against her greave, this warmth spreading subtly. Then, it bounced again, a small, enthusiastic jiggle, but this time directed upwards, against her leg.

She could feel the soft pressure, the gentle warmth, and the undeniably optimistic vibrations emanating from the creature. Her internal calculations struggled to categorize this interaction. It defied standard threat assessment protocols.

Suddenly, the orange blob emitted a louder, more excited bubbly sound and… giggled. It was a purely innocent sound, devoid of malice or trickery, a sound of pure, unadulterated joy. The giggle resonated through the quiet corridor and, unexpectedly, a faint twitch crossed CZ Delta's stoic face.

Unprompted, and despite her usual rigid control, a small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corner of her lips. The sound was… pleasant. The creature's unbridled enthusiasm was… unusual, but not unwelcome.

The orange blob then bounced higher, its gelatinous body stretching slightly, and playfully pushed against her knee. The soft, warm pressure was more pronounced now. It felt… ticklish. Another almost imperceptible twitch crossed CZ Delta's lips.

She looked down at the creature. Its amorphous form jiggled with an almost boundless energy. Its bubbly noises continued, a constant, cheerful undertone to its movements. Despite her lack of emotional expression, she found herself… curious.

Lowering her gaze further, her target-marked eye fixated on a specific point on the creature's smooth, orange surface. It was… undeniably cute. The pure, unadulterated joy radiating from this anomalous being was… captivating, in a logical, data-driven manner, of course.

Without conscious thought, her hand, the one that hadn't moved from hovering near her weapon, began to move. Slowly, deliberately, it reached down towards the orange blob. The creature noticed the movement and paused its playful bouncing, orienting itself fully towards her reaching hand.

When her gloved fingers made contact with its surface, the sensation was surprising. It was soft, yielding, and slightly tacky, like gently pressing into a perfectly formed jelly. The warmth intensified slightly under her touch, and the creature emitted a particularly happy set of bubbly sounds.

CZ Delta's fingers flexed slightly, the armored material barely compressing the orange surface. The creature seemed to enjoy the contact, jiggling enthusiastically against her hand. The feeling was… not unpleasant. Logically speaking, it was generating positive sensory input.

Then, before she consciously processed the decision, her other hand joined the first. She carefully cupped the orange blob, her gloved hands surrounding its warm, jiggling form. The creature responded with a series of high-pitched, delighted-sounding bubbles.

She lifted the creature slightly, its weight surprisingly substantial for its size, and held it gently in her hands. It squirmed slightly, its stubby appendages twitching in what she interpreted as contentment. The warmth radiating from it was quite significant now, a comforting sensation that spread through her gloved hands.

Another giggle escaped the orange blob, and this time, the sound seemed to vibrate directly into her palms. The unexpected vibration caused another almost imperceptible smile to flicker across CZ Delta's face.

Thinking logically, the creature was harmless. It exhibited no aggressive tendencies and, in fact, seemed actively pleased by her presence and interaction. Categorizing it would require more data, but her initial assessment was… favorable.

Her gaze fell to the sticker attached to the corner of her skirt, the faded '1 yen' label a quirky reminder of something she found… agreeable. Without hesitation, and acting entirely on instinct, she reached down with one hand, still carefully cradling the orange blob with the other.

She detached the sticker, its adhesive slightly worn, and then, with meticulous care, pressed it onto the smooth, orange surface of the creature. The '1 yen' sticker, a small, slightly faded square of paper, now adorned the side of the jiggling blob.

The creature seemed to notice the addition, nudging its form against the sticker as if curious about the foreign object. Then, it emitted a series of particularly joyous bubbly sounds and bounced gently within her hands, nudging against her fingers with affection.

CZ Delta observed the sticker on the creature. It looked… right. Logically, the creature possessed qualities she found… appealing. The '1 yen' sticker, in its own small way, was a data point, a visual marker of her… positive assessment.

One of the Homunculus Maids, a timid-looking girl named Ceylan, rounded the corner, pushing a cleaning cart. She stopped abruptly when she saw CZ Delta holding the orange blob, her eyes widening in surprise.

"CZ-sama?" she stammered, adjusting her glasses. "What… what is that?"

CZ Delta tilted her head towards Ceylan, her expression still neutral but somehow… softer. She held up the orange blob slightly, allowing Ceylan a better view. The creature, in turn, emitted a series of friendly-sounding bubbles towards the maid.

"Unknown entity," CZ Delta stated in her usual flat tone. "Designation… pending."

Ceylan cautiously approached, her gaze still fixed on the orange blob. "It's… it's glowing, CZ-sama."

"Luminescent properties confirmed," CZ Delta agreed.

The orange blob then stretched one of its stumpy appendages towards Ceylan, wiggling it in a friendly gesture. Ceylan flinched slightly, but then, tentatively, reached out a finger and poked the creature's surface.

"It's… warm," she murmured, a surprised look on her face. The creature responded by giggling happily and nudging its form against Ceylan's finger.

"Affectionate," CZ Delta added, observing the interaction. "Non-hostile. Possibly beneficial."

Ceylan giggled softly. "It seems… happy, CZ-sama."

CZ Delta looked down at the orange blob in her hands, at the '1 yen' sticker adorning its side. A rare, genuine smile touched her lips.

"Agreed," she said, her voice still flat, but with a subtle hint of… something else. Perhaps, just perhaps, it was contentment.

The orange blob emitted another series of joyous bubbles and snuggled further into CZ Delta's hands, seemingly quite content to be there. CZ Delta, in turn, adjusted her grip slightly, holding the warm, jiggling anomaly a little closer. For the moment, at least, the security rounds could wait. There was a new, unexpected, and undeniably cute anomaly that required further… observation. And perhaps, just perhaps, another sticker.
