Chapter 2: C002
[R-Edit/ Forums/ R-Industries/ Game/ Mystique: Yggdrasil]
ThotSlayer: It is finally time. Mystique is about to be released in 1 hour.
GoblinLayer: Dude, I have been seeing you posting on this forum for the past year. Calm down, it is just a game.
MountTai: Just a game!?! Junior, you court death.
YoungMaster: Yeah, he is right. It is a game that is made by Rothchilde Industries. How can it be just a game. It is THE GAME.
GoblinLayer: Even though it is made by Rothchilde Industries, it is in the end just a game. Chill out.
Sir-Dick-o-less: Shut up otherwise I will make you the world title holder of my username.
Drowned-in-Cream: Okay, guys no need to be so harsh on him. Just skinning him would be enough.
MountTai: Wiser words never spoken.
DemonLayer: Why the hate bro?
ThotSlayer: Well, because it is a game made by the company that managed to convert Red zones into Yellow zones, and created settlements on Mars.
OneEyedOne: Not only that, R-Industires always manage to take a step beyond the norms, and what they say. Their CEO advertised trying to stop the degradation of orange zones, and in the process converted Red Zones to Yellow.
Their CEO literally created the atmosphere in Mars and has a machine to control the weather. He makes things that are seemingly impossible, and he downplays them all.
So, if he said it is THE GAME, then it means it is XX THE THE GAME EHT EHT XX. Understand?
GoblinLayer: You are not wrong.
YoungMaster: Not only that, they even made console with specifications that make previous console look like trash. Not to mention that the consoles are designed keeping in mind the game.
If R-Industries is willing as far as it is to make a console for a game, then it means that it is going to be the best thing that has happened ever since toilet paper.
…
"Sir, such threads are being spammed all over the R-Edit." Tristan said.
"How many pre-orders did we have?" I asked Dalton.
"Nearly 1 Billion." He replied, stunned to see the evaluation of the company that he had made, curb stomped on the first day.
"Hmm…that is to be expected." I added.
"Will a single sever even hold up?" Andrew asked.
"Don't worry, it is not just a single server, it is my single server.
It has not even reached 20% of its capacity."
I replied, then with a sigh I got up from my seat at the new HQ of Rizzard, the developer of Mystique.
"Well, I will be going home. I presume that you will be watching over the whole charade?" I asked quirking my eyebrow.
"Yes, some will go to experience game with players, while the majority will be watching over for any bugs." Andrew replied.
"But the rate at which we have begun, we will need more employees." Masamune interjected.
"Don't worry about that, after the game has launched, the number of applications at your door will pile up soon enough." I said, wearing my suit, and shook hands with the developers and left for my home.
***
Entering the home, I dismissed Tristan and Albert and moved to my room. Inside the large room, I used my AI. "Cerci, change hard light projection from [BEDROOM] to [CONSOLE]."
[Affirmative.]
Sounded a mechanical voice in response, which was followed by my exquisite room to break into 1s and 0s which were soon turned into an advanced-looking VR gaming room, with cords attaching themselves to my waist.
Then the light in the room dimmed down, and I felt as if I was in a viscous fluid, a feeling that soon faded away as light shone in my vision. Soon came the name of my company and epilogue scene of game that I looked at for the sake of a proper gaming experience. Then those slide came and go, and finally in front of me was character selection screen.
[Select your race.]
[Humanoid]
[Demi-human]
[Heteromorph]
With the plan in mind that I had, I chose Heteromorph.
[Affirmative]
[Choose you Sub-species]
[Changeling
Dragon
Dragonoid
Giants
Vampire
…]
And so on races were displayed. There was a notable exclusion of angels and devils because of my decision to add them when the Abrahamic Pantheon will be introduced.
Without much thought, I chose Changeling, which is a new class that I had specially developed. This class can be called like a Doppelganger, with a major change that while Doppelganger can change physical appearance and some abilities to a chosen class, they can never truly replace a class.
This class does just that, it can help you take any character and push it to the extreme level, with a downside that it reduces your experience gain speed by 1/8th the norm.
Now, as I chose [CHANGELING], the screen disappeared and in its place was the picture of my avatar.
[Do you confirm to proceed?
Warning: Once race is selected, it cannot be changed.]
I proceeded when the prompt appeared.
Then a window appeared in which my avatar was in all of its glory. It appeared to be a mass of black silhouette, with no feature whatsoever.
Seeing it, I opened the [SHOP] and selected the [COSMETICS] tab.
After applying numerous cosmetic items, I finally changed my appearance to a man of fair skin, wearing a black coat and pants made of fur, with a belt hanging from his waist.
The figure had Scarlet red hair and golden eyes.
Selecting the presentable appearance, I went to the [NAME] tab and entered my name and pressed confirm.
[SCARLET KING]
…
Then I was met with a scene of numerous shooting stars. This was followed by my figure launching itself like a star hovering over a giant ball of green and blue. Then a gigantic tree appeared in my sight, and the stars along with me stopped.
This was followed by a prompt appearing on my screen.
[Choose the realm where your legend begins.]
[Asgard]
[Alfheim]
[Jotunheim]
[Midgard]
[Muspelheim]
[Niflheim]
[Vanaheim]
[Nidavellir]
[Helheim]
Without much thought, I chose Helheim, seeing it to be an obvious choice due to my Race. And then, the light surrounding my vision drowned and after feeling that I could finally move, I opened my eyes to find that I was inside a place that looked dark and deary. I looked over to the minimap, that I was in the center of the world.
Then I glanced over to my in-game status screen.
[Name: SCARLET KING]
[Gender: Male]
[Level: 1]
[Race: Heteromorph]
[Sub-species: Changeling]
[Changeling acquired Sub-species: (0/4)]
[Class: None]
'Hmm…first order of business is to take one sub-species from someone, though there are two ways to do it.
Slow way and fast way.
For Fastway, I have to get slain by my enemy and then I can acquire his classes, but there is a disadvantage since Changeling regresses by 5 levels, which when keeping its 1/8 experience status, equates to around 40 levels, which makes sense, otherwise you will just die and come back stronger, no need to play good.
And the slow way is to use a Changeling-specific spell called [Preserve] which will preserve a corpse and prevent it from fading away. And then by using [Assimilation], assimilate that class beginning from its most basic sense.
This method's downside is that it will take days to assimilate a race, depending upon its power and rarity, also it will begin the new race from level 1.
So many problems.
So many problems for a free-to-play gamer.
So sad that I will never know their difficulty since I am a whale.'
I prayed for them for a while, and then began to move about the area, searching for enemy. As of right now, I have only met skeletons who were of level one. I could have taken any one of them but I wanted to begin with a better class. As I walked around with that thought, I was met with a scene of ugly heteromorphs with lamprey-like mouths attacking hordes of skeletons.
'A vampire, huh?
This one will do.'
With this thought in mind, I approached him from behind using [Conceal] to not make a sound.
Then when I was behind him, I quickly attacked him with a [Stun].
This caused him to become paralyzed for a moment, in duration of which he looked at me and said with a voice unique to a vampire, that sounded like a gurgle.
"Who are you?! Damn it! Stop stunning me!"
He said but was stunned again by me.
I kept on stunning him, again and again, while keeping my distance.
"What are you trying to achieve? Soon you will run out of MP." He said audibly annoyed.
In response, I showed an MP potion in my hand which I drowned in front of him, causing my MP to refill, and MP regeneration to increase.
"How many skeletons does it take to defeat a vampire?" I asked with a ghastly voice.
"What, do you think these few skeletons can kill me? They barely do any damage?" He asked with a condescending tone.
"How about them?" I said pointing at the skeletons behind me coming in the horde.
"Where did they come from?" Vampire asked struggling from my stun.
"Who knows? Maybe some dastardly person led them here to take onto a vampire, to find the answer to the question that has plagued humanity since time immemorial.
How many skeletons does it take to kill a vampire?"
I said, which caused him to thrash, trying to fight [Stun] that I kept on spamming.
"No!!NO!!!!!! YOU CHEATER!!!!!! FIGHT ME MAN TO MAN!!!!!" He shouted, being overwhelmed by skeletons who were deterioting his HP like water.
"No."
I said and kept on spamming [STUN].
"NO!! YOU BAS-"
But his voice was quickly cut out when his HP reached 0. Seeing the perfect moment, I quickly cast [Preserve] on him followed by [Assimilation].
Then I quirked an eyebrow on my game profile where under Changeling Sub-species tab, vampire was added with a time duration.
[Name: SCARLET KING]
[Gender: Male]
[Level: 1]
[Race: Heteromorph]
[Sub-species: Changeling]
[Changeling acquired Sub-species: (1/4)]
[Slot 1: Vampire (Time till completed assimilation: 7 hours)]
[Class: None]
Without wasting any time, I used a cash shop item to skip the time barrier and assimilated Vampire. Then I used cash shop items to increase my experience gain, making it equal to normal experience gain.
I did not stack any further because the game did not allow it, keeping in mind that if any Changeling was capable of spending money in-game it won't be able to surpass other races in the development area.
*CLATTER*
This sound caught my attention, to look at the horde of skeletons left behind. Without any more thinking, I turned into vampire and began EXP farming.
I lunged at the skeletons and used [Blood Frenzy] to increase my attack and speed in return for my defense and HP. All-in-all, it took me only a few minute to deal with the horde of skeletons, which helped me level up to 3.
'Hmm…difficulty increases as you move away from the center. Better move away and earn EXP from mobs, while camping for any player with an interesting class.'
***
"Jim, wait, I want to go to Alfheim." Said an elf with white hair.
"We will, but not now." Replied Jim back at the elf.
"But I want to go now." Elf hrumped.
"Both of you quiet down. From what I have seen in community posts…while you get marked for killing humanoid and demi-human classes, the same does not apply to heteromorph.
We can farm so much by PKing them. Not to mention, we can get some loot." Said a Dwarf.
"What loot can we get from PKing noobs below level 10 who have just started to play the game." Elf whined.
"Something that is worth more than you perhaps."
"Pfft, ahahahaha!!!" Jim said to which the dwarf broke into laughter.
"Hahaha, very funny. How clever. At least you are good at using your mouth, even if it is at the wrong places. Good for you." Elf bit back.
"SHU-"
*CLATTER CLATTER*
Jim wanted to speak but was quiet down due to the heavy clattering sound. "Shhh…Rin, use your skill to find where the sound is coming from. Sounds like tons of skeletons. Must be someone engaging them or it should be an area crowded by them.
In both instances, free EXP." Jim said hurriedly.
"Got it." Rin said with a lax expression.
Then she cast a spell following which there was a green shimmer of light.
"There, a player is engaging 24 skeletons." Rin said.
"Huh…must be a heteromorph. Let's go." Jim said and started to approach the place, with others following behind him.
But when he reached the said place he found skeletons but no one was fighting them.
"Where is it?" Jim asked Rin.
"Who knows? Maybe he died, after fighting skeletons. There are too many of them for one person anyway." Rin said shrugging her shoulders. "Then let's kill these fu*kers due to whom we lost our loot." Jim said irritably and started to walk towards the skeletons with his shield raised up.
The other two looked at each other and followed him, with Rin standing with her arrow notched in her bow. "Here, bozos, come right here." Jim said, using [Taunt] on them, being the paladin. The hoard of skeletons started to rush at him, but as they were about to reach Jim, he was shot with a [Stun].
"We are being camped!!!" Jim shouted, trying to warn the others, but alas, he was too late.
All of them were hit by [Stun].
"COME OUT YOU FU*KER!!!!!" Jim bellowed, being overwhelmed by the skeleton but unable to do anything.
"Sure."
Said a voice behind Rin, who had a hand passing through her chest, though no blood was there. Then her figure started to flicker but was stopped by [Preserve].
"RINNN!!!!!" Shouted the Dwarf, who tried to hit the man with crimson hair, but as he hit him, the man split into a flurry of bats.
"THIS PIECE OF SH*T IS A VAMPIRE!!!"
"No sh*t Sherlock." Said the Scarlet King.
"Jim, use your holy spell." Shouted the dwarf.
"I can't. He keeps stunning me." Jim bit back.
"I stunned you? My my, it appears my charm just doesn't stop at women." Scarlet King said with a condescending gaze.
"SHUT UP! [HOLY S-]-HITTTT!!"
Jim cursed as he was interrupted mid-attack.
"Language, you ingrate." Scarlet said and finally used [Blood Frenzy] to attack paladin and dwarf, killing them in one fell swoop.
He then cast [Preserve] on the dwarf but let the human die.
***
After adding the two bodies, I left them under timer since I was going to focus on vampire first. Then I looked at my status screen.
[Name: SCARLET KING]
[Gender: Male]
[Level: 10]
[Race: Heteromorph]
[Sub-species: Changeling]
[Class: Impostor (Level 5)]
[Changeling acquired Sub-species: (3/4)]
[Slot 1: Vampire]
[Class: Vampire: Bloodborne (Level 5)]
[Slot 2: Elf (Time till completed assimilation: 7 hours)]
[Slot 3: Dwarf (Time till completed assimilation: 7 hours)]
[Slot 4: N/A]
I have decided to discard human race as of now, because while they are flexible in use, I need something that will excel in extreme. Like dwarf for forging, elf for nature magic, and vampire for stealth. While my 4 slots were about to be filled, that was no problem. I can always use money to increase the slots available.
With that thought in mind, I started to march away from the center to level up Impostor to level 10 and go to the vampire abode that is located near the outskirts of the Helheim to get a good class.
At present, Bloodborne is a high racial class, meaning that it can be leveled up to 10 only. This class was good at dishing out high damage at the expense of users Mana and HP. The less your HP is, the higher the damage. But I cannot rely on it alone, I need something good that can take on enemies without risking me to dangle between thread of life and death.
Lastly, there is Impostor which is a rare class, that is given to people who choose the Changeling class and manage to slaughter people of their own race. I got it after I beat vampires.
With this thought in mind, I began to walk towards the rough location of the vampire's abode that I remembered.
***
After a grueling 3 hours, following which I encountered several monsters like wraiths, I managed to make it to the vampire's abode.
The reason why I did not go after Wraith was because I am more inclined to Poltergeist, or Specter.
Anyway, a prompt appeared on my screen.
[Humble Abode]
[This place at one time used to be a lavish area ruled by vampires, but was then abandoned due to some reason, despite it being their ancestral land.]
'Hmm…I should begin with checking all of the houses and mansions for anything of value. There must be a chain quest or some item of value that I can use to get a racial class.'
Thinking this, I started to move and search for a place that looked like the city in Bloodborne.
Calm.
Too calm.
"Grrrr…ARRR!!!!!!!!" I heard a growling noise which came from a humanoid figure that had head which appeared to be a tentacle.
There were 8 of them, each of which were running at me in a frenzy. Seeing them, I got into stance, and lengthen my claws that were reflecting light.
And then…
"RRRRRWWWWWWWW!!!!!!"
I committed a massacre.
It did not matter to me that their numbers were increasing. They were at a fundamental disadvantage in front of me, to begin with. They were beings of flesh and blood in front of predators of flesh and blood.
I kept on dicing them, their corpses kept on piling until it was tall enough to overshadow a single floored building. Then they stopped coming. I then looked at the place where they rushed from and decided to investigate it. But before, I collected data crystals from their fallen form.
After collecting them, I started to make my way towards the old run-down-looking altar. Beneath the altar, there were stairs descending underground. The area underground was pitch black, but due to my night vision, I was able to see clearly. The path below was made of cobblestone, that had a weird fleshy thing that resembled moss growing over it, blood red in coloration.
'Blood and vampire, wow, what a coincidence.' Scoffing internally, I descended the stairs, which created slobbering and squishing sounds when my steps landed on red moss covering the stairs. After a minute of descending, the stairs ended, and in front of me was a room with a pentagram made of blood, which even though stayed still, looked fresh.
I used a rock to throw it toward the blood which coated the pebble in its color. Using another rock, I tried to draw out the circle, but despite it wetting the rock in red, it did not move away from the pentagram by even an inch.
'Well, that's obvious.'
Thinking of it, I opened the door, which opened with a visual effect as if the flesh was torn, with blood spilling outwards, drowning my shoes. I walked inside the room with careful and steady steps, making ripples of blood covering the floor. Entering the room, I found that it appeared to look like a mass of flesh if one were to ignore a table and cabinet with various papers.
Taking the hint, I walked towards the table and lifted up a diary. Opening it, I found that it had several pages blank in the beginning, but the later ones were written with blood.
'Seems like I am in a clique creepypasta.'
With this thought in mind, I began reading.
[Dairy Entry # 664]
[I warned Father yet again not to dabble in something that we clearly have no knowledge about, but he seems to be dismissive of it.
Day and night, he stays cooped up in his workshop, reading accounts of a magician who dabbled in black magic.
He has not joined us for a meal in forever, since mother passed away at the hands of those wretched humans on that unfateful night.
He has changed.
We all have.
He changed for the worse.
He has started to neglect Amber, the one daughter who he spoilt rotten. He has stopped managing our territory, despite their being several attempts by Duke Downing to spark a rebellion.
Death and grief change people, but this is not the change any one of us wanted.
But I am doing my best to support him in his time of grief, by shouldering his burden, but my shoulders have started to give away.
Sometimes, I wish to just escape the suffocating thing our home has become, but it would mean turning my back on my mother and family.
And you don't turn your back on family.]
[Diary Entry # 665]
[Things have changed for good. There is a stark difference in the code of conduct of the father who came out of his workshop suddenly, smiling for what appeared to be ages.
He spent time with Amber and had meals three times a day with us.
I asked him about it, but he shrugged it off saying he had finally found the correct answer.
While the glint in his eye irked me for a second, I chalked it up to be a work of light.
This thought cemented it in my mind from the days that followed, which were the best we had in ages.
All that happened before seems like an illusion.
I hope it stays an illusion.]
[Diary Entry # 666]
[I am sorry.]
"I.AM.SORRY."
Said a voice coming from a face that had exposed muscles, no eyebrows, and blood flowing from every corner. The said figure appeared to be a red mass with no variation on his body. The only thing that stood out was his eyes. Blood red wide eyes staring back at me, with upside-down teeth. There was blood flowing from his eyes akin to tears.
His face despite its monstrosity and horrific looks, caused a small amount of pity to rise in me.
Small.
Very small.
"What do you want?"
I asked not attacking since despite its appearance, the figure did not initiate the attack. Rather than aggressive, it looked remorseful…somber.
"I.AM.SORRY." He repeated.
"What are you sorry for?" I asked, hoping to make the conversation go in some fruitful direction.
"I.AM.SORRY.THAT.I.COULD.NOT.SAVE.THEM." He said in a hoarse voice.
"Who comes into 'them'?"
"….EVERYONE." He muttered dejectedly, and then there was weird pull on my body, following which my vision wavered for a moment. Next time I opened my eyes, I was in front of the Altar, but this time there was no underground path.
Instead in my hand was that diary. I opened it, and found the initial pages that were blank previously, were now filled with scribbles layered one over the other. I then titled the diary by accident and found the scribbled to move with it.
Seeing it, I tilted it in another direction, and Scribbles did the same thing in another direction.
Fascinating.
I then kept on moving around the diary, until I found a position where all the unnecessary scribbles were completely gone, and what was left was a simple message.
[Beginning of the End.]
It read with my face looking at a mansion, that was overshadowing all of the others.
'Who would have thought that? Certainly not me.'
After my sarcasm-filled thought, I made my way to the mansion.
Along the way, I did not encounter anyone, though was met with a scene of that red-colored moss covering things, many times. Ignoring it, I checked various building to find if something of use, but did not find any.
About 27 minutes later, I was standing in front of the mansion, that looked like a heart, more than a mansion. The only thing by which one could say that it was a household of someone was the structure by which the fleshy moss had covered the mansion.
Taking a brief look, I entered the mansion by scaling the walls, my claws out, and my senses looking for the smallest of movements.
Just as I stepped into the 'garden' of the estate, my leg started to sink as I stepped on a gelatin. Seeing it, without delay, I unfurled my wings and took to the air, but then something strange happened. The mansion which had been eerily docile, shot a fleshy vine at me. I of course dodged it, but the problem began when their numbers kept on piling up. I maneuvered through the air, but the numbers did not stop decreasing.
But then I noticed something.
When I tried to distance myself from the mansion, the fleshy appendages increased, but when I approached it, even for briefest of second, the appendages decreased and halted all movement.
Taking the hint, I descended from the air slowly with vigilance. During the descent, my eyes happened to fall on a small piece of land that, unlike the rest of the place, was completely moss-free. This caused me to land on it.
Upon landing, nothing happened, no traps, nothing. Seeing the situation, I used my claws and started to hit the ground. That was when my claws hit something and made a characteristic, ding sound.
Knowing the answers lie underneath the ground, I without any reservation started to remove the dirt. It was only an inch thick when my eyes fell upon a rusty door.
Kicking it open, I found the same cobblestone path leading underneath the ground. Knowing I was closer to answers, I made my way inside the ground. The path was the same. The twists and turns were the same. The only difference was the lack of growth of red moss on it. Soon, the path gave way to a familiar but different door, with the absence of pentagram. Kicking the door open, I found no overflow of blood on it.
Entering the room, I looked at the same table and cabinet inside the room. The same papers but stacked nicely. The same diary, but it was open. Walking up to it, I saw the page it was showing.
[Diary Entry # 666]
[Now I know the cause of my wretched father's sudden happiness. Now I know the cause of his shift in character.
He was not my father.
It was not my father.
Whatever it was, only had the appearance of my father.
I saw it.
It saw me.
I saw how it morphed from my father to my mother.
That day, the one who died was not my mother alone.
It was my father too.
I read the ritual inside of his workshop.
Ritual not to reassert the fallen, but to keep oneself anchored to this plane of existence.
Whatever it was, was not native to this world, not this plane of existence.
And from what I came to know about ritual, it was planning to do something, something terrible.
A ritual to sacrifice us all for it to exist in this world, and walk on this land. Not as a parasite, but on its own.
I tried to stop it.
I tried to save everyone.
I failed.
I am sorry.]
As soon as I finished reading it, the room distorted. It took the appearance of the room that I saw underneath the altar. Blood was on the ground, red moss everywhere, and the room looked like a lump of flesh.
Then from under my foot, I felt a strong force and I was dragged inside. I felt as if at one moment I was drowning and the next, I was standing. Standing on blood. Floating on blood.
I was in a completely different dimension. A dimension where there was blood red moon, shining over my head ominously. A dimension, where rocks were floating in the air. A dimension, where there was a being made who looked like a lump of flesh descending over me.
I looked at the being and read its information.
[%$%FYEUF (Level 20 {Increasing})]
[A discarded part of an eldritch being that gained sentience and tried to descend into the real world but was not too weak to cross the barrier.]
[HP: 100000/100000 {Increasing}]
'Huh, I was reincarnated by an eldritch being, took the mantle of eldritch being, have a class that signifies a certain hunter of eldritch, and now I have to kill an eldritch.'
Taking the thought out of my mind, I lunged at 'it', knowing that the more time I took, the stronger it would get.
Battle of attrition is a big no then.
'It is a tough opponent for anyone to face, seeing its HP and its no visible upper ceiling.
A tough opponent for others.
But for me…
It is easy.'
I thought looking at the humongous sea of blood. Blood when near holder of class Bloodborne means explosion. When near a sea of blood, means extinction.
Without wasting time, I slit my hand and caused my blood to flow into the sea and then used [Blood Explosion].
Seeing what I was doing, the mass of flesh, who in the beginning was trying to bide time to increase its level, hurriedly tried to crash himself at me.
But it was too late.
Once there was a world drowned in blood.
*BOOM*
Then it was no more.
***
When that explosion happened, I found myself back in the room, devoid of any red coloration whatsoever.
Then I looked at the table and the diary's page that was open.
[Diary Entry # 666]
[Thank you.]
