Chapter 5: Breaking Walls

It was another rainy day, I stood by the house entrance waiting for Mr Ings to come out, his driver was waiting in the car. I for one was surprise that Mr Ings would make time to attend D's funeral. Maybe the kid influenced him, after all D was close to the kid.

There weren't much guards going with us, it was unlike him to leave the mansion with two cars and four guards, well five if you include me but then again the only reason I'm going is because Jack is.

"Are we ready?" I heard his voice coming from behind, I turned around he held Jack by the hand as they both walked towards me. I walked towards the car and opened the door for them, they walked pass me and entered the car. Mr Ings was talking with Jack, advising him I think, like he was the perfect father.

I sat in the front with the driver while the second car following us was loaded with arm guards, I myself still had my glocks and that dummy grenade with me.

We drove right to the gate which sprung open immediately and then we drove further to the second gate; the mansion had two gates with two towers standing in between the gates and with the the road in between the two towers. They were trained snipers in both towers, I hardly ever see them come down but I knew all of them.

The drive to the funeral services was quiet, at the ceremony the rain had seized and I finally got to meet D's family. David Davies was his name, I never knew his last name I only knew his name was David and I believed that was why they called him D. He had a Daughter about Jack's age, at that moment I understood why he was good with kids. After the funeral service, Mr Ings went to give his condolences to the family privately. I stood by the car with Jack waiting inside the car, I was getting bored so I pulled out a lollipop I had kept in my pocket.

"Is that your thing?" Someone said, I turned around, it was Jack.

"My thing?" I asked

"David use to say, people had certain types of indulgence or something like that"

"Are you talking about addictions?" I asked.

"Yeah, that's it. He said almost everybody had one, it could be drugs, drink or women...."

"Aren't you a bit young to be having such discussions?" I jumped in. He shrugged his shoulders

"I'm really not as young as you all think, if you actually think about it." He said.

"Maybe I don't want to think about it." I retorted. After which I turned around back to staring at the crowd, waiting for Mr Ings to pop out.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked.

"Fine go ahead" I replied with a sighed.

"Have you lost anyone during the job?"

I turned and looked at him, for as long as I've been protecting this kid this is by far the longest conversation we've had. Maybe he is hoping to make a new friend or maybe he was terrified, I couldn't really tell.

"Not to violence, but to sickness and disease. My guess is they probably needed a doctor more than a bodyguard" I replied.

"My Mom told you that joke didn't she?" He retorted.

"No, I told her that joke" I replied.

"Then what about David and the other two guards?" He asked.

"I wasn't protecting them, I was protecting you" I replied.

"What about my Mom then?" He asked, I could see the anger in his eyes, the hatred in his voice.

I didn't really think about it much nowadays but I never did forget that day.

"Your mum died of birth complications, along with your unborn sister, I thought you knew that" I responded.

"So you did loose someone then?" He asked.

I was about to explode all over him then I heard the driver start the car I turned around and saw Mr Ings approaching. I was about opening the door when he said

"No, hold on.........Can we talk privately for a minute"

I followed him a few feet away from the vehicle he didn't look at me but stared into the distance.

"You're probably wondering what is happening or what has been happening" He said.

"What do you mean, Sir?" I asked. He laughed softly.

"Alex, you've worked with me long enough. I know all your moods, when you're angry, sad or nervous" he said.

"Even being here with four guards you don't feel I'm adequately protected " he continued

"Can you blame me Sir" I said.

"No, infact you are right" he said, he dipped his right hand into his pocket.

"Have we been able to identify who's responsible for the attack?" I asked.

"Yes, actually that's what I brought you here to talk about" He said, then went ahead to hand me over a card he brought out his pocket.

"Something big is about to happen and I'm not sure I'll make it, I need you to promise you'll take Jack to this location." He said.

"What's going on?" I asked

"Honestly even I don't know yet but allegiances are shifting and that is enough to tell me that it isn't something I would benefit from. I need to keep Jack safe"

"I don't understand, if we are under attack then why move with so little security?" I asked.

"There's a seize fire till the end of the month"

"What happens at the end of the month?" I asked.

"A meeting, from what I heard everyone is going to be there" he said, he looked up, then back at me and patted me on the shoulder.

"Let's go" he said and started walking back to the car. I looked to the vehicle and for a moment my eyes and the kid locked. I looked down at the card he handed me it was a company card, just one number and it looked American, I turned over the card and there was an address there and I was right it was in America.

"Come on, Alex. We've got a long journey ahead." He said

"Where to then?" I asked.

"China" he said as he closed the car door.
