Chapter 711: Man and Law
After leisurely playing around with her good sisters for a day, the next morning, Dorothy arrived at Celestial Peak Mountain.
Although she hadn't made any appointments and only decided to come over on a whim, when the Homebody Witch arrived at the foot of the mountain, there were already two shrine maidens waiting at the gate early on.
They were Amaterasu Life Kikyo and Amaterasu Mikoto Setsuna, teacher and disciple.
The two shrine maidens still wore the classic red and white witch outfits, which inherently carried an aura of immortality. The Little Shrine Maiden looked fresh and refined in it, while Miss Divine Witch appeared as graceful as an immortal.
Oh, she was originally a True Immortal, so that was understandable.
For their reception, Dorothy wasn't very surprised. After all, nothing on Japan Island could escape the sight of Miss Divine Witch, who had already transformed into an Earth Immortal, and naturally, her own movements were no exception.
"There's no need for such formality from you guys, coming to receive me. I'm just here for a visit."
The Homebody Witch said a bit shyly.
"It's only right; a noble being like you should not be slighted. It's just that you seem to dislike pomp, so this time I only brought Setsuna with me. Please forgive us."
Miss Divine Witch's manners were as impeccable as ever, graceful and charming, making Dorothy feel a bit flattered.
However, the Little Shrine Maiden wasn't as particular, as Miss Ghost Mask knew Lord Clown for a longer time and naturally understood that he didn't care much for these formalities.
Yet with her teacher present, she didn't dare be truly disrespectful, only secretly giving a thumbs up to Dorothy, indicating that the boss was amazing.
Recently, the Amaterasu Shrine had been observing the various changes occurring on Japan Island, and Amaterasu Life Setsuna was well aware that the reforms were orchestrated by the Lord Clown in front of her.
The Shrine Maiden liked this reform a lot. It was like a spring breeze after a harsh winter, bringing everything back to life, and this decayed Japan Island of tens of thousands of years finally regained its vibrant vitality.
If Japan Island had been like this earlier, she wouldn't have yearned so much for the big cities outside.
As for the praise from her old subordinate, Dorothy maintained an outward calm, inwardly brimming with pride.
Hehehe, got you with that, didn't I? Feels great.
The three of them leisurely ascended the long mountain path, passing through vermilion torii gates, stepping on the dappled light and shadows cast by the towering trees on both sides, finally reaching the main hall of the shrine, without disturbing the shrine maidens busy with their daily work along the way.
This was nice, as Dorothy indeed didn't like grand displays with a large audience. As a socially anxious homebody, she hated those insincere fixed procedures the most. Compared to those seemingly grand yet purely ceremonial welcomes by extras, Miss Ghost Mask's genuine praise was much more comforting.
Even though Mother Dragon had educated her that grand displays were necessary for those in higher positions, the Homebody Witch understood the reasoning, but dislike is dislike.
Those welcomed procedures for visiting leaders are all self-deception. Do you not know whether people are truly welcoming you or not?
Of course, some people might enjoy being welcomed, even when others don't, for the pleasure of standing above them. But Dorothy didn't feel that way at all; she only thought it was a waste of everyone's time.
Although witches are of the Eternal Life Species, time is still very precious, isn't it? Wouldn't it be better to use that time to learn a few more spells?
If there had to be grandeur, Dorothy preferred pulling off some significant acts, to shine gloriously in front of everyone, making the onlookers exclaim "wow" uncontrollably.
She hoped for others to praise her because she was truly amazing, not because of other nonsensical reasons.
"So, how is the Book of Humanity I created?"
After taking a seat in the main hall of the shrine, Dorothy asked Miss Divine Witch.
Previously, Miss Divine Witch had mentioned that resolving Japan Island's issues was the test of the Book of Humanity. Now that she had completed it, she naturally wanted to know how she did.
Regarding this, Amaterasu Life Kikyo naturally nodded.
"Indeed, even someone like me, from the mountains, feels passionately stirred by your concept, Lord. I believe even the Eastern Sages would be moved by such a Book of Humanity."
Miss Divine Witch praised without reservation, but then she seemed a bit conflicted, as if there were words she wanted to say but found it inconvenient to express directly.
"It's okay, just say what you have in mind, no need to beat around the bush."
Dorothy noticed Miss Divine Witch's hesitation and quickly said.
"Then please excuse my bluntness, Lord. When we three siblings first took over from Father and pacified Japan Island, the initial Chinese Clan members were truly heroes. When we established this Chinese Clan system, it was meant to let the Chinese Clan manage and guard Japan Island."
Amaterasu Life Kikyo's eyes showed a nostalgic look as she recalled the past when the three sisters, along with their followers, brought peace to the chaotic times. Those who were titled as the Chinese Clan back then were the elite among witches, the initial protectors of Japanese Witches, much like the current All Nations.
"But you've seen the degenerate state of the current Chinese Clan, Lord. Although their downfall is largely due to the temptation and corrosion of Father's remnant soul, even without him, they would have ended up like this eventually—it's just a matter of time."
