Chapter 44: Chin Wag
Bo and Han backtracked and found the trail of the two horses that lead to the farmhouse where Arrie had treated Winer.
They looked around the house and quickly realised someone had slept there and left already.
Two horses had become one. It seemed that the commander was right, and that a lone girl was off doing something on her own.
They followed her trail at a gallop, leading them to the shores of Lake Lonsdale where the horse's hoofprints hugged the sandy shore of the lake.
Han lifted the binoculars and let out a huff of excitement.
"I can see them on the other side!"
As he watched he stopped talking.
"What is it?" Bo asked him. "Is there more than one girl?" he asked with excitement.
Han stayed right where he was, silently gazing through the binoculars.
On the opposite side of the lake, two girls he now knew were Araminta, who the girls called Arrie, and Winter, shared a horse together.
Winter sat at the front, semi-clad, topless to be exact.
From behind her, Araminta was feeling Winter's breasts.
She appeared to be roughly squeezing, and Winter's head was dropped back in either pleasure or pain.
He could safely say that on a number of levels, this was not what he had expected to see.
Two girls not one, one girl semi-naked, and the girls were fooling around with each other.
Not that he was objecting. Definitely not! It was the kind of thing he had wondered if girls got up to together when they were locked away in the harem.
To his happy surprise, it looked like women did like to enjoy each other's bodies.
"Han! What is it?" Bo was getting impatient.
"It's…"
"Han?" Bo prompted.
"Nothing…"
"It's clearly not nothing. What's happening? Give me a turn with the binoculars."
"No!"
Bo tried to grab the binoculars and Han smacked his hand away.
"Piss off!"
"What is it, Han? Let me see!"
"The commander gave me the binoculars, not you."
"Don't be childish. Do I have to teach you how to share?"
"You can have a quick look if you promise to give them straight back," Han said absently, staring intently across the lake.
"I promise," Bo said immediately.
Han very reluctantly handed the binoculars to Bo, keeping the leather strap around his own neck and leaning across so Bo could use them.
Bo also went silent when he saw Arrie feeling Winter's breasts.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat. "So girls do like to touch each other after all."
"It looks that way."
"I'm not complaining."
"Who would? Give me the binoculars back now."
"No way! You're just perving on two girls getting it on. That's not why the commander gave you the binoculars. My promise was only if you were using them for tracking."
"Get stuffed Bo. A promise is a promise!" He yanked on the strap and the buckle came undone, leaving him with the strap and Bo with the binoculars. "Give them back!" Han yelled.
His shout was loud enough to travel across the lake and the two girls looked up and, even without binoculars, they spotted the two guards.
Arrie helped Winter back into her top and they galloped off at top speed.
"You fucking idiot, Han," Bo muttered, as he handed the binoculars back to him now that there was nothing to see. "Did you have to shout like that?"
"You ruined everything when you broke your promise you lying bastard. Yah!"
Han kicked his horse into a gallop, leaving Bo in a cloud of dust.
The two young men rode their horses in pursuit as hard as they could without injuring them.
By the time they had rounded the lake and were flying through the bush on the trail of the horse and its two riders, their horses were panting hard and flecked with lather.
"We've made good time," shouted Han. "They can't be too far ahead now. Get ready. When we catch up to them, I'll tackle the front one and you tackle the back one."
"Why do you get the one with the good boobs?"
"Don't be infantile. Anyway, I'm sure Arrie has good boobs too. The Emperor didn't choose any women who aren't drop-dead gorgeous."
"But that one likes girls…"
"Aren't you lucky," muttered Han.
"What?"
"Shut it. You're capturing the girl, not dating her, Bo."
"Even so. Can I tackle Winter?"
"No!"
The boys rounded a large rocky hill and saw the two girls and their horse only a few hundred metres ahead.
Winter was keeping an eye out behind them, and she immediately spotted the guards and alerted Arrie, who tried to speed their horse up, but it was starting to flag, and it was carrying two passengers.
"Hurry Arrie," Winter urged her. "Those men are gaining on us. They're only a hundred metres behind us now. See if you can get to the road?"
Arrie managed to reach the next small rocky hill, and the men watched the two girls disappear behind it. They were almost in spitting distance of them now.
"Yaah!" Han urged his horse towards the rocks and rounded the base of the little hill.
Visible to the naked eye and about three hundred metres away, were the other six women, riding hard in their direction. Arrie and Winter started shouting at them.
Han pulled up his horse and yelled at Bo to do the same. They eyed the large group of women warily.
"I think we better hightail it," said Han glumly. "If we let them get too close, they'll turn the tables on us and we'll either be dead or captured."
"Agreed," said Bo dejectedly.
"Just let me try something the commander wanted first. Cover me, Bo."
Han pulled out a white shirt and waved it over his head at Delphi, walking his horse forward slowly while waving the shirt.
Bo trained an arrow on Delphi, so she knew not to try anything.
She lifted an arm and waved back at Han.
She waited until Arrie and Winter were safely back with the larger group, then walked her horse out towards Han.
When Han was about ten metres from her, she called out, "that's close enough".
"I'm Li Han, he introduced himself. You can call me Han."
She eyed him suspiciously, giving him the faintest of nods.
"What do you want Han? I see you were chasing my girls. You should be thankful we're not turning the tables on you."
"We could have turned tail and disappeared, but Commander Meyer wanted me to pass on a message to you."
She raised her eyebrows at him to continue.
"He said to say that there are dragons in the area. We were attacked at Creswick. They broke through windows and doors. Very aggressive. The soft spot is the eye or the belly. He wants you to take extra care, and he asked if you would like our protection. No conditions attached. We'll agree not to detain you. We have orders to keep you safe as well, so that's our priority."
"You'll have to forgive me for having zero trust in you and your mates, Han. So, I'm going to decline the commander's 'kind' offer. Tell the commander I said thank you for the heads-up and I look forward to our next 'chin wag'."
Delphi turned her horse and rode away, leaving Han scratching his head in puzzlement.
