OP: Sovereign of Blood and Seas

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Baptism by Blood

The island seemed to awaken with the first rays of dawn. The soft crash of waves was now accompanied by the calls of strange birds, their cries alien to Eric's ears. His sleep had been uneasy, broken by a constant awareness of his surroundings. With the small dagger from the Starter Pack clutched in his hand, he'd sat against a tree trunk, trying to calm his racing thoughts.

He hadn't wanted to admit it at first, but he'd felt… good after the fight with the wolf. Stronger. Sharper. The hunger that had clawed at him during the battle was gone, replaced by an eerie calm. Whatever the Chi Chi no Mi had done to him, it had made survival possible.

Still, questions gnawed at the edges of his mind. Was this transformation permanent? What were the limits of his powers? Could he even trust the system?

When the first rays of sunlight painted the beach golden, the system's familiar voice chimed again.

"Daily Quest Unlocked: Secure Basic Sustenance."

A new screen materialized in front of him.

Quest: Secure Basic Sustenance

Objective: Obtain food and water.

Reward: Experience points, +1 Attribute Point.

Eric sighed, rising to his feet. His body felt lighter, stronger, but his stomach growled insistently. The prospect of eating didn't excite him; regular food seemed almost… unnecessary. But water? His throat was as dry as the sand beneath his boots.

"Alright," he muttered. "Let's see what this place has to offer."

He moved cautiously, dagger ready, scanning the trees for signs of danger. The map from the Starter Pack had labeled the island as "Daggerhead Atoll," though the name meant nothing to him. There were no towns or villages marked—just wild terrain and a few scattered rivers.

The first hour of searching was fruitless. Eric's instincts screamed that he was being watched, but every time he turned, he found only rustling leaves and shifting shadows.

The system interrupted his paranoia.

"Resource Detected: Freshwater nearby."

Eric grinned. "Now we're talking."

The river was more a narrow stream, winding its way through dense jungle. Kneeling at its edge, Eric scooped a handful of water and drank deeply. The cool liquid soothed his throat, and he allowed himself a rare moment of relief.

"Quest Objective Updated: Procure Food."

"Yeah, yeah, I get it," he muttered, splashing water on his face.

The quiet was shattered by a rustling in the undergrowth. Eric froze, dagger in hand, as the sound grew closer. His heart thudded against his ribs.

A boar burst from the bushes, its tusks gleaming in the dappled sunlight. It wasn't as massive as the wolf, but its sheer aggression was evident in the way it pawed the ground, snorting angrily.

Eric clenched his dagger, his muscles coiled like a spring. The system chimed.

"Combat Engaged. Quest Bonus: Defeat the Boar to Earn Additional Rewards."

The boar charged, its hooves kicking up dirt. Eric darted to the side, narrowly avoiding the beast's tusks. He slashed with the dagger, grazing its flank. The boar bellowed in rage, wheeling around for another attack.

"Bloodline Adaptation Available: Lesser Blood Puppeteer."

Eric didn't have time to question the system. Instinct took over as he focused on the wound he'd just inflicted. He felt it—a connection, a tug—and suddenly, the boar froze mid-charge.

Its legs trembled, and its snarl turned into a confused whimper. Eric stared, uncomprehending, as the boar dropped to its knees. His mind was linked to it, as though the creature's body had become an extension of his own.

"New Ability Unlocked: Blood Puppeteer. Control targets with exposed wounds. Duration and effectiveness vary with target size and Host's level."

Eric's lips curled into a grin. "Now this I can use."

He forced the boar to stand, turning it in a slow circle before commanding it to kneel again. The sheer power he felt was intoxicating.

The hunger stirred, and he frowned. He could end this fight right now. The boar's blood called to him, promising strength. But something about killing it while it was defenseless felt… wrong.

Eric released the boar from his control. It stumbled, confused, before bolting back into the jungle.

"Quest Updated: Find an Alternate Food Source."

"Great," he muttered, shaking his head. "System, you could've told me before I let dinner go."

The system, as always, didn't respond to sarcasm.

By midday, Eric had fashioned a crude fishing spear from a branch and spent a frustrating hour by the stream, trying to catch something edible. His patience was rewarded when a fat fish swam too close. He speared it, grinning triumphantly as he hauled it ashore.

Cooking the fish over a fire was another ordeal. The Starter Pack hadn't come with a lighter or matches, so Eric had to resort to rubbing sticks together—a laborious process that left him sweaty and swearing. But the moment he tasted the charred meat, he couldn't help but smile.

"Quest Complete: Secure Basic Sustenance."

A familiar screen appeared.

Reward: +100 XP, +1 Attribute Point.

"Attribute point?" Eric said, intrigued. "How does that work?"

The system responded with a new display.

Stats

Strength: 4 Agility: 5 Endurance: 4 Bloodline Control: 1 (New Stat)

Available Points: 1

Eric's finger hovered over the screen. "Bloodline Control, huh?" He tapped the stat, watching as the number ticked up to 2.

"Stat Updated: Bloodline Control."

He didn't feel any immediate difference, but something told him he'd made the right choice.

As the day wore on, Eric explored more of the island, his confidence growing. He tested his Blood Puppeteer ability on smaller creatures—birds, lizards—learning the limits of his control. It drained him quickly, and the hunger returned with each use, but the potential was undeniable.

By evening, he'd circled back to the beach where he'd first awakened. The sky was a tapestry of orange and purple, the sun sinking into the horizon. Eric sat on the sand, staring out at the endless sea.

For the first time since his arrival, he allowed himself to think about the bigger picture.

He was in the One Piece world. That much was certain. The names on the map, the strange creatures, even the bizarre powers—it all lined up. But this wasn't the romanticized adventure he'd watched on TV or read about in manga. This world was brutal, filled with pirates who would kill for a few berries and marines who upheld justice with an iron fist.

And then there were the monsters. The sea kings. The Warlords. The Yonko.

Eric clenched his fists. He was just one man, stranded on an uncharted island with no crew, no ship, and no clear path forward. But he wasn't helpless. Not anymore.

The hunger stirred again, and this time he welcomed it.

"I'll survive," he said, his voice steady. "And then…I'll take it all."

As if in response, the system chimed one last time.

"New Quest Unlocked: Forge Your Path. Objective: Establish Your Presence in East Blue. Reward: Unique Skill."

Eric's grin widened.

It was only the beginning.
