Chapter 47 - Evolution Evolution Revolution!
“Alright! Let’s do some calculations!”
Kenya, who had always been good at academics, was skilled at this sort of thing. Despite having returned to a normal high school life, he struggled to keep up with his studies due to neglect.
(Let’s first think about upgrading the Spirit Crown and the Black Dragon Robe. I need 18 B-rank alchemy seeds.)
With 9 B-rank alchemy seeds, 9 alchemy attempts would allow the Spirit Crown and the Black Dragon Robe to evolve. For now, Kenya decided to focus solely on the evolution and leave the level-ups for later.
To keep things organized, he decided to create a roadmap for his objective.
Objective: Evolve the Spirit Crown and Black Dragon Robe.
↑
To evolve B-rank equipment, 18 B-rank alchemy seeds are needed (9 for each).
↑
To create 18 B-rank alchemy seeds, 180 C-rank equipment pieces are needed for alchemy.
↑
To obtain 180 C-rank equipment pieces, 1,800 D-rank equipment pieces are necessary for alchemy.
↑
To get 1,800 D-rank equipment pieces, 18,000 E-rank Soldier Series equipment pieces are needed.
Writing it down clarified how many Soldier Series items and alchemy attempts were required. While there seemed to be plenty of Soldier Series items, the challenge lay in the number of alchemy attempts. He calculated the alchemy attempts needed as well.
① For 1,800 D-rank equipment pieces, 18,000 E-rank Soldier Series items are required. To make D-rank equipment, 9 alchemy attempts are needed per piece, totaling 16,200 attempts (1,800 x 9). Since E-rank alchemy has no limit, only time is needed.
↓
② For 180 C-rank equipment pieces, 1,800 D-rank equipment pieces are necessary. This requires 1,620 alchemy attempts (180 x 9).
↓
③ To create 18 B-rank alchemy seeds, 180 C-rank equipment pieces are needed. This requires 162 alchemy attempts (18 x 9).
↓
④ To evolve B-rank equipment, 18 B-rank alchemy seeds are required. This needs 18 alchemy attempts.
In total, 18,000 alchemy attempts are needed for 18,000 Soldier Series items. 16,200 attempts are unlimited, but 1,800 are limited. Kenya could do 340 attempts a day, so it would take 5 days. The main challenges were concentration and time.
(I’ll aim to make 18 B-rank alchemy seeds first.)
With 9 days left, he could still manage to create the King Series alchemy seeds. He decided to inform Tanaka.
Ping!
==================
No problem. You can use everything.
Get stronger, Kenya.
==================
With Tanaka’s approval, Kenya began his “death march,” focusing first on making B-rank King Series and B-rank alchemy seeds.
B-rank alchemy seeds were green. Each alchemy took about 5 seconds.
In reality, it took longer due to breaks for concentration, meals, and other needs. When he reached the daily alchemy limit, he switched to unlimited E-rank alchemy, turning Soldier Series into Knight Series.
(This is tougher than I imagined…)
Kenya worked mechanically, holding, alchemizing, and placing items, his mind going blank.
Reina diligently organized and brought new boxes. Though her task seemed harder, she appeared to enjoy it.
Day 1
His concentration waned, and he felt intense headaches. He barely did anything besides alchemy, eating, and bathroom breaks.
Day 2
He went home briefly for a change of clothes. Despite the pain, he could walk a bit alone. Misuzu, wanting to help, stayed behind, upset.
Returning to the warehouse, Kenya resumed alchemy. The word “alchemy” started losing meaning.
Day 3
Seeing the Soldier Series made him nauseous. He continued to focus solely on alchemy and meals. Reina remained cheerful and diligent.
He accidentally bit into a Soldier Series item, mistaking it for a sandwich, hurting his teeth.
Day 4
He began to hate alchemy intensely.
Day 5
Kenya reached enlightenment. He felt connected to the universe, almost opening the gate of truth.
“Whoa!”
(That was close. Almost lost my sanity. My right leg is still there. Almost became an automail user.)
After five days of relentless alchemy, Kenya nearly lost his mind but completed the 18 B-rank alchemy seeds, regaining his spirit with a triumphant shout and victory pose.
Thanks to the rest, his injuries had mostly healed.
“Yay!”
Reina clapped dryly beside him.
(Thank you, truly…)
With tears of gratitude, Kenya raised his hand in thanks. He decided to forget for now that he was only halfway done, to preserve his sanity.
(Taking a break from the long alchemy journey… Alright!)
Kenya picked up the Spirit Crown and Black Dragon Robe to evolve them.
“Alchemy!”
