Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 99 - The Alpha Centauri Star System

The Earth’s civilization’s combat power is overwhelmingly strong; the so-called fleet of the Sushui civilization stood no chance against them. After the Sushui civilization issued their arrogant demands, Earth’s powerful mechanical insect race fleet suddenly appeared around them.

The Sushui civilization was taken aback, as such an occurrence could only mean the Earth civilization had utilized jump engines, indicating mastery of the Unified Field Theory.

The commander of the Sushui civilization’s fleet paled and shouted, “The opponent has mastered the Unified Field Theory, a high-level civilization. Retreat quickly!”

But it was too late. A barrage of cannon fire, missiles, and even spatial weapons rained down on them, burying the Sushui civilization’s fleet in firepower.

More terrifyingly, the flagship’s engine, where the commander was located, was suddenly sabotaged. Several electromagnetic cannons appeared inside the warship and launched an attack from within.

The commander urgently inquired, “Advisor, what’s happening? How can the enemy attack us from inside?”

The advisor replied with a bitter smile, “These are attacks from the fourth dimension. Our opponents have mastered four-dimensional technology. We’ve hit an iron wall!”

Unquestionably, the Sushui civilization was no match for Earth’s civilization, which hadn’t even exerted its full strength before capturing them with the mechanical insect race fleet.

Seeing this, the dinosaur person couldn’t help but exclaim, “Has human civilization become this powerful? With this, I can rest assured.”

Wu Ge asked, “Do you still intend to leave and wander?”

The dinosaur responded, “After being alone for so long, it’s impossible to integrate back into a collective. I’ve grown to prefer the tranquility of solitude.”

Despite Earth being its homeland, the vast expanse of the stars was its home. After wandering alone for so long, it found comfort in the solitude of the cosmos.

Many individuals struggle to integrate into society, but once most people form a group, they often try to pull the loners into their fold, which is unnecessary.

After the dinosaur person left, Wu Ge’s side began preparations for a journey to the Alpha Centauri triple star system, the closest to the Solar System.

This time, Wu Ge designated the demon fleet under Hu Kong for the exploration mission to Alpha Centauri. Since there’s no star path between the Solar System and Alpha Centauri, they must use jump engines, taking several days to reach the destination.

The mechanical insect race fleet’s quick arrival at the battlefield previously was due to using jump engines within a star path.

This is akin to traveling on a highway versus a muddy country road—the former is undoubtedly faster, while the latter requires more time.

However, with frequent use of jump engines, a low-level star path between the Solar System and Alpha Centauri should naturally form, significantly speeding up travel.

Given that Alpha Centauri is a triple star system, there may not be planets suitable for Earth’s civilization, so the primary goal of this exploration is to unlock more technologies by studying the triple star system.

With Hu Kong leading the fleet, detailed reports will be sent back upon their arrival at the Alpha Centauri star system.

As the supreme ruler of a civilization, Wu Ge naturally needed to oversee from the rear.

After Hu Kong’s departure, the Sushui civilization’s warships captured by the mechanical insect race were escorted back to the Solar System’s shipyard, where scientists, eager like hungry wolves, awaited the arrival of new warships for research.

The commanders and subordinates of the Sushui civilization were taken away by the mechanical insect race for interrogation. Being aquatic beings, the Sushui civilization members were confined within a large aquarium by Chong Feng, the leader of the mechanical insect race.

Upon witnessing the appearance of the mechanical insect race, the Sushui members were initially shocked, suspecting at first that the mechanical insect race was a matriarchal insect society. However, they soon realized that each individual of the mechanical insect race possessed its own independent thoughts, leading them to suspect that the mechanical insect race was a technologically advanced civilization.

Their confusion only deepened upon encountering werewolf scientists, as it was clear that the two were not the same species, given the significant differences in physical characteristics.

The group from the Sushui civilization struggled to comprehend the composition of Earth’s civilization but lacked the right to inquire, as they were the ones being interrogated.

Chong Feng personally interrogated these extraterrestrial beings with a commanding voice, inquiring about the Sushui civilization’s home star system, military readiness, technological level, population, and fleet size.

The Sushui members were too frightened to respond, as Chong Feng’s demeanor suggested an intent to attack their civilization.

Wu Ge had indeed intended to train Chong Feng as a battle commander, one obsessed with warfare.

After all, Wu Ge knew that in the current universe, devoid of any cosmic treaties, showing mercy to enemies was equivalent to being cruel to oneself.

Thus, Chong Feng appeared extremely ruthless, stating, “Even if you don’t speak, I have ways to extract information from your minds. However, that would tear apart your souls. Even knowing this, are you unwilling to speak?”

The commander of the Sushui civilization asked, “If we speak, will you spare us?”

The mechanical insect race commander responded, “Impossible. Your initial expression of intent to attack our civilization makes it impossible for me to empathize with you. Even if you speak the truth, I will still imprison you, but I will allow you to live out your life without pain.”

The commander fell silent. Being the commander of a bounty hunter fleet, these intelligent beings had grown accustomed to plundering as a habit, not just from foreign species but even within their own. Thus, they lacked any sense of morality.

The commander stated, “I am merely a bounty hunter, unaware of our military strength. I can only share with you the information known at our level… Our civilization resides in the Sushui star system, nearly 100,000 light-years from here. Without faster-than-light travel, we can only colonize outward along star paths. There are not many star systems suitable for our survival; currently, we have found only three, with the majority of our population living in the primary star system.”

Pausing for a moment, the commander continued, “Our civilization is a military-technological one. For us bounty hunters, discovering a low-end civilization results in substantial rewards, as our primary star system dispatches a large force to attack low-end civilizations. To date, we have eradicated five low-end civilizations.”

The commander suddenly paused, realizing that such actions hardly elicited sympathy in defeat.

Chong Feng’s expression changed as he said, “I understand. Continue.”
