Chapter 97 - The First Dinosaur to Gaze Upon the Stars
Wu Ge and his team engaged in a conversation with the dinosaur person, who revealed itself to be a Tyrannosaur born 75 million years ago. It had returned to Earth three times over millions of years, with this visit being its third.
This dinosaur, both in age and knowledge, could certainly be considered an elder to Wu Ge and his team. It had spent a significant amount of time in space, with part of it in hibernation, but was awake for at least several hundred thousand years.
Wu Ge asked, “Elder, how did you initially leave Earth?”
The dinosaur reminisced, “It’s been so long I can’t remember clearly, but I recall being taken by a group of aliens simply because I was the first dinosaur to gaze upon the stars!”
Wu Ge and his companions were surprised. Was this curiosity about the stars the reason aliens took the dinosaur person? Could extraterrestrial actions be so whimsical?
Seeing their expressions, the dinosaur person smiled and said, “How long ago did humans first become curious about the stars? Didn’t your technological advancement accelerate from that point? Curiosity about the stars naturally leads to a desire to understand those shining points, often marking the beginning of a civilization.”
Wu Ge surmised, “So, those aliens didn’t want a civilization emerging among dinosaurs, hence they took you.”
The dinosaur nodded, “I only realized this after gaining intelligence. Earth was merely a farm back then, and dinosaurs were just one of the farmed species. Think about it, if one of your livestock showed curiosity about the stars, what would you do?”
After some thought, Wu Ge responded, “A typical farmer might isolate such a dinosaur, boasting about its unique intelligence and perhaps even training it for profit. But ultimately, it’s likely to be taken by scientists for research.”
The dinosaur confirmed, “Your guess is not far from the truth. I ended up with alien scientists who tried various methods to enlighten my intelligence—and they succeeded!”
Now, the bulbous spacecraft piloted by the dinosaur was docked at the edge of the Solar System, its structure thoroughly scanned by a gigantic four-dimensional scanner, revealing its design to Wu Ge and his team. The dinosaur did not object to this examination, akin to international flights undergoing security checks. The Solar System, being under human control, naturally required security inspections of visiting spacecraft.
After docking his ship at the system’s edge, the dinosaur took a smaller craft into the Solar System, expressing a desire to visit Earth. Wu Ge granted this request.
As the dinosaur approached Earth, their conversation continued. Wu Ge inquired, “Elder, did the civilization that took you ultimately perish?”
The dinosaur replied, “Yes, their scientists inadvertently created a black hole while researching the Unified Field Theory, leading to their civilization’s downfall. Only a few survivors escaped, and that’s when I regained my freedom, starting my lengthy cosmic wanderings of over 70 million years.”
Hearing “Unified Field Theory,” Wu Ge felt a chill. Their recent research into the same theory had nearly ended disastrously with gravity inversion. He pondered the dangers other civilizations faced while exploring this theory.
Wu Ge asked, “Are there few civilizations that have mastered the Unified Field Theory?”
The dinosaur explained, “Very few, because researching the Unified Field Theory is extremely dangerous. A slight miscalculation can destroy an entire civilization. There are instances of accidental black holes, planetary explosions, and even summoning void creatures. Ordinary civilizations generally dare not explore this knowledge.”
Wu Ge inwardly acknowledged their good fortune. Had their experiment been slightly larger in scale, it might have resulted in the destruction of Venus.
As the dinosaur person’s spacecraft neared Earth, showcasing advanced technology and speed but lacking faster-than-light travel capabilities, it was essentially defenseless in the vast cosmos.
Wu Ge went to meet it, deploying a formidable display of mechanical insect swarms from the Chong Feng species while he himself floated in the vacuum of space, his powerful spiritual force shielding him from cosmic radiation, vacuum, and extreme cold.
The dinosaur person towered impressively, standing over two hundred meters tall. The original Tyrannosaurus species was quite smaller, making Wu Ge appear minuscule in comparison, almost ant-like.
Upon seeing Wu Ge, the dinosaur person expressed astonishment, “You…are humans following the path of deities? Your divine power allows you to move freely in space?”
Wu Ge offered a concise explanation, not divulging the entirety of Earth civilization’s secrets, “It’s somewhat different. We’ve merged the paths of religion and science, and indeed, I am considered the leader and supreme deity among us.”
The dinosaur person pondered this, then commented, “The power of faith combined with the power of technology? To have progressed to this extent is truly remarkable. Do you not have leisure or rest? Do your people never complain? I admire your political skills.”
The dinosaur person believed that balancing the forces of faith and technology within a civilization was challenging. Faith required blind belief in a supreme deity, whereas technology demanded independent innovation, defying the notion that fate is predetermined. How could one reconcile these opposing forces?
Unbeknownst to the dinosaur person, Wu Ge’s strength was not derived from the power of faith but from his own efforts, earning him the trust of the religious community and the admiration of the scientifically inclined.
The concept of self-cultivation was apparently foreign to the dinosaur person. While aware of deities and the power of faith, it seemed unaware that beings could cultivate spiritual power through self-practice.
This model of self-cultivation was rare in the universe, leaving many civilizations oblivious to the existence of such practices.
Wu Ge arranged for Xiao Chao to escort the dinosaur person from the spacecraft to Earth. The air on Earth was not suitable for the dinosaur, necessitating a massive protective suit for it to breathe.
Upon landing on Earth’s surface, the dinosaur exclaimed, “Earth, I have returned.”
The last surviving dinosaur, after wandering the stars for untold years, had finally returned to its homeland, Earth.
