Chapter 87 - The Distance Between Hearts
The peculiar ring launched its fiercest attack on Wu Ge, consisting of countless colorful lines, twisted glimmers, and a variety of strange creatures. Wu Ge felt as though he was being assaulted by an abstract painting, or rather, attacked by the countless lines drawn by an abstract artist.
Wu Ge raised the Gold Essence Sword high, channeling his psychic power into it continuously. No matter the form of the attack, he was ready to break it with a single strike.
Colorful lines were severed, twisted glimmers fell, and bizarre creatures were eradicated with a single slash.
It was as if a realist painter was battling an abstract artist. Wu Ge’s side was rooted in reality, while the ring leaned towards the fantastical.
The battle scene was almost impossible to depict due to its abstraction. Even with a paintbrush, it could not be captured because no one can fully express their innermost thoughts.
This was undoubtedly the most challenging battle Wu Ge had faced, given the ring’s unique and eerie attacks. Light twisted at will, monsters from children’s doodles emerged, and countless lines solidified into reality.
These attacks were unlike anything Wu Ge had ever encountered. All he could do was to keep swinging his sword, cutting through everything in his path.
He had to sever, cut, and slash everything using the sacred weapon in his hands. As Wu Ge pressed on with relentless strikes, the ring’s attacks began to falter.
After all, the sacred weapon Wu Ge wielded was of a higher order than the ring, and being an offensive weapon by nature, the sword had the upper hand. The ring, on the other hand, didn’t seem like a powerful offensive weapon; it appeared more functional, designed to invert inner realities and the physical world.
Wu Ge ascended, breaking through the ring’s protective light with a single slash and seizing it in his hand. The ring struggled, attempting to escape Wu Ge’s grasp, but was quickly subdued by his immense psychic power.
Though it was hard to classify this donut-shaped object as a ring, Wu Ge wore it and activated its power.
“Stop!” Wu Ge commanded. His psychic power surged into the ring like a river flowing into the sea. Moments later, the virtual soul world made a “crack” sound.
Then, the entire soul world and the Klein bottle space shattered. Wu Ge waved his hand, enveloping Ye Hong’s twenty-three-year-old body with psychic power, and they returned to the surface of Venus.
The inverted world vanished, along with the paradise and the elderly lady. All that remained was the young-looking but internally aged Ye Hong and the bodies of the other third exploration team members.
It was over. Wu Ge had resolved everything. Countless robots swarmed in, noting that Wu Ge had spent less than thirty minutes in the spatial rift.
Turning back, Wu Ge saw the spatial rift still present but devoid of the infinite three-dimensional Klein bottle space, the aging particles, and the inverted realm.
Wu Ge declared, “Here lies a stable spatial rift. Mark this as a restricted zone and begin researching it. With some luck, we might develop spatial weapons.”
Xiao Chao responded, “Request logged, drafting research plan… Plan successfully drafted.”
Then, Wu Ge looked at the corpses of the exploration team members on the ground. The realm of the soul is scarier than the real world. In reality, laws and morals constrain people’s behavior, but in the realm of the soul, the only thing that can restrain oneself is oneself.
They knew they shouldn’t fight among themselves or kill each other, but in that world where inside and outside were reversed, they were completely out of control, or rather, their hearts were out of control.
But after their hearts were connected, the world they obtained was not one of mutual understanding, tolerance, and respect. Instead, it was a world of mutual resentment, fighting, and slaughter. It’s precisely because we cannot see through people’s hearts that this world appears so beautiful on the surface. If we could see through, this world might be doomed.
Yet, despite this, situations of mutual love still arise. When this happens, the barrier between hearts disappears, and two people can even merge into one. Perhaps the soul of a newborn is born this way.
Wu Ge sighed, “The human heart is really complicated!”
The Venus disappearance incident ended, and the people of Earth began to mourn the exploration team members who died on Venus. They would never know the truth. If they were told that the third search team killed each other, how would they react? Would they lose all faith in humanity?
Fortunately, there were two survivors this time. One was Cang Shu, old in appearance but young at heart, and the other was Ye Hong, old at heart but young in appearance. They were placed in the same hospital room. After so long, they reunited. However, despite being so close, they couldn’t feel each other’s presence.
The hospital nurses often pushed them to the garden for walks. They knew the two were a couple, so two nurses would push their wheelchairs to let them move together.
Cang Shu’s old, dry eyes were empty, while Ye Hong’s young, moist eyes showed signs of aging. One looked like an elderly person in their seventies or eighties, while the other was a young woman of twenty-three. They sat in their wheelchairs motionless, without saying a word.
The one with the old appearance seemed to have infantile amnesia, while the one with the young appearance seemed to have dementia.
People unaware of the truth could hardly imagine these two were once lovers. But strange things always happen in this world, and reality is always so cruel. Otherwise, how could these two surviving lovers be separated in such a way?
So close, yet so far away.
Their bodies were physically close, but their hearts were infinitely distant.
Because they were rescued by the Supreme God Wu Ge, the hospital staff did not dare to neglect them. After praising Wu Ge’s greatness, they meticulously cared for the two patients. Due to the divine aura surrounding them, apart from devout believers, there were also some pretentious people who came to visit.
But this was only at the beginning. As time passed, fewer people came to see them. They were taken to the temple, where, according to Wu Ge’s wishes, they would stay until they died. After death, they would be buried in the same place.
One was old in body but young at heart, and the other was young in body but old at heart. No one knew who would die first.
However, one day, a devout believer cleaning their room found that they had passed away hand in hand.
