Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 56 - Lonely Progress in Adversity

Wu Ge and Fox Immortal immediately entered the cave, advancing deeper and deeper. The Fox Immortal’s eyes emitted a faint green light, while Wu Ge’s psychic energy enveloped their surroundings.

Finally, through the long passageway, they arrived inside a massive cavern within the mountain. There, they discovered an enormous shelter, enveloped by a faint purple energy shield.

Xiao Chao deployed a scanning robot, which reported, “The entrance of the shelter is inscribed with text, but it’s not in any language known on Earth. The technological level of the shelter is very high; electromagnetic waves and sonar cannot penetrate it.”

Wu Ge nodded, “My psychic energy can’t penetrate it either. The material of the walls blocks psychic energy.”

Wu Ge began to believe that this could indeed be a shelter capable of withstanding all disasters, even potentially blocking the teleportation beams used by Microstar Civilizations.

The question arose, with walls impenetrable even to psychic energy, how could they enter the shelter?

The Fox Immortal suggested, “Let’s see how Su Xiaoyu did it.”

She waved her hand, and Su Xiaoyu’s phantom appeared again, brought to life by the projection robot’s beam.

Su Xiaoyu stared at the giant shelter, tears unconsciously streaming down her face, releasing all her suppressed grievances.

Muttering to herself, she said, “I was right, I succeeded, I can save them!”

Misunderstood by her family, considered mentally ill, and even subjected to exorcism by a so-called master, Su Xiaoyu bore the loneliness of being seen as an oddity, doubting the accuracy of her dreams. What if it was all just a dream, and there was no shelter?

At that moment, Su Xiaoyu’s frustrations and accumulated stress exploded, and she cried out, “I succeeded, my efforts weren’t in vain!”

After calming down, she resolved to inform her parents and the authorities about the shelter, capable of housing a hundred thousand people.

Just then, a rumbling sound from outside startled her: an avalanche.

The cave shook, rocks tumbled down, and Su Xiaoyu took cover. Once the shaking stopped, the cave entrance was blocked by snow.

Su Xiaoyu rushed to the entrance, shouting in despair, “Why? Why an avalanche?”

She tried to dig through the snow and use her snowmelt agent, but its effectiveness was limited in this situation.

Yet, Su Xiaoyu didn’t give up, continually shouting for help, but to no avail. Exhausted, she sat in the snow, overwhelmed by a bitter sense of defeat.

Turning back, she saw the shelter enclosed by the energy shield. Approaching it, she was blocked by the barrier.

Wiping her tears, Su Xiaoyu regained her resolve. She remembered the spaceship within the shelter that could offer an escape.

This spaceship was her last hope, the final glimmer of light, the last straw to clutch at in her quest for salvation.

She must find the spaceship, but the cavern within the mountain was vast, and her current location was on a platform within this cavernous space. On both sides of the platform were steep spiral staircases, descending which could lead one down, but below was a bottomless pit, unknown to what lies beneath.

Su Xiaoyu mustered her courage; having come this far, she had no reason to give up.

She began to descend the spiral staircase, which was very slippery and lacked any railing. A careless slip could easily lead to a fall into the abyss below, a fall from which there would be no survival!

Wu Ge and the Fox Immortal watched this scene, their hearts in their throats, knowing this had happened two hundred years ago. They knew that they couldn’t offer any help to Su Xiaoyu two hundred years later; they understood that regardless of their worry, what was meant to happen had already occurred.

Su Xiaoyu had only herself to rely on, to carve out a path with her own courage!

They watched as Su Xiaoyu cautiously made her way down the spiral staircase. She was so afraid, so fragile, so alone, yet so strong, so brave.

Courage is humanity’s greatest hymn.

At this moment, the Fox Immortal finally understood why humans had become the dominants of Earth in just a few hundred thousand years because, despite their weakness, they constantly strove to move forward.

The Fox Immortal believed that not only were Wu Ge and Xiao Chao thinking about how to grow and then save all of humanity, but those humans taken away by the Microstar Civilization were also constantly thinking of returning home.

Humans, even in dire situations, think of moving forward, continually advancing.

Wu Ge and the Fox Immortal followed Su Xiaoyu’s phantom, following the Su Xiaoyu of two hundred years ago, as they made their way down the spiral staircase. Several times, the weak Su Xiaoyu nearly fell, but she persisted.

“We’ve arrived!”

Wu Ge and the Fox Immortal both breathed a sigh of relief. Although they knew they couldn’t change history from over two hundred years ago, they still sighed in relief for Su Xiaoyu. She had finally reached the bottom; she had finally landed safely.

However, Su Xiaoyu, who reached the bottom, saw no hope. Before her still was the boundless energy shield, enclosing everything. She couldn’t find any way into the shelter, nor could she see the so-called spaceship.

Despair silently descended. This is reality, and reality is cruel. If this was a secure shelter, then it certainly wouldn’t leave any vulnerabilities, so Su Xiaoyu’s hope of finding the spaceship was shattered.

The last glimmer of hope disappeared, the last straw broke.

At this moment, Su Xiaoyu couldn’t even save herself, let alone humanity.

At this moment, Su Xiaoyu finally felt the weakness and fragility of humanity. She collapsed to the ground, unable to even cry.

Despair enveloped her.
