Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 54 - The Human Who Walked Alone

Wu Ge and the Fox Immortal immediately dismissed the psychologist’s explanation, as the girl’s dreams were too accurate, matching the timeline exactly.

However, as witnesses to history and archaeologists, they had no right to criticize the psychologist, who had no way of knowing that such a disaster would indeed happen on that day.

As the Fox Immortal flipped through the pages, she asked, “What happened next? Was it really a psychological disorder?”

Wu Ge shook his head, “It’s not that simple. Keep reading.”

The Fox Immortal continued, and for the next three days, the girl kept having the same dreams about the extinction of humanity. On the third day, the girl’s entry became hysterical, stating:

The dream is real, it’s true, this school is exactly like the one in my dream, without any difference. I’ve never been to this school before, so why would I dream of this place? This dream is real!

I researched, and someone online say that prophetic dreams aren’t necessarily prophetic but could be real experiences from another parallel universe. In several parallel universes where the timeline is ahead of ours, all of humanity has already perished, including me. I can’t let history repeat itself. I must find a way!

Hearing this, Wu Ge said, “The records on the phone stop on July 25th. Just read the entry for that day.”

The Fox Immortal flipped to the entry for the 25th, which contained only one sentence:

My family thinks I’ve gone mad.

The Fox Immortal asked, “What happened? Did her parents send her to a mental hospital?”

Wu Ge shook his head, “No, they confiscated her phone and locked her up. Her parents suspected she was possessed by an evil spirit, so they planned to hire a master to perform an exorcism.”

Wu Ge pulled out a notebook, its pages yellowed and smelling of wood decay. This notebook was stored in a special warehouse with no germs, oxygen, or light to preserve it for two hundred years.

Opening the notebook to page twenty-five, the Fox Immortal saw it written:

August 12th, my family brought in a Feng Shui master who made me drink talisman water. I lied that I was better; otherwise, they would continue to imprison me.

The master’s talisman water had no effect. I continued to have my end-of-the-world dreams, but I wasn’t panicked because I found a solution in my dreams. He told me that I could avoid this disaster by hiding in a certain place. I believe him!

The Fox Immortal asked curiously, “Who is ‘he’?”

Wu Ge didn’t respond; instead, he flipped to page twenty-six, which read:

August 15th, ten days before the end of the world, I’ve successfully located that place in my dream. I know how to get there. The only thing left to do now is to escape this place!

Once I find that place, everyone will believe me, and we will all be saved!

Eagerly, the Fox Immortal turned to page twenty-seven, but it was blank. The records ended there.

The Fox Immortal asked, “What happened? Did her parents discover her actions?”

Wu Ge shook his head, “She escaped. Xiao Chao is now using surveillance footage and ticket purchasing records to simulate her escape route.”

The Fox Immortal understood, “I know a spell that can trace back to the origin. With the help of technology, I might be able to recreate what happened then.”

Wu Ge was surprised, “You know such a spell? Understood, I’ll have Xiao Chao cooperate with you!”

Soon, the transport plane arrived at Wu Ge’s hometown. They went to the girl’s house, which was now empty, with all the furniture moved to the warehouse by Xiao Chao.

The Fox Immortal entered the girl’s bedroom and then took out a few talisman papers. She closed her beautiful eyes and began to chant a spell. About three minutes later, she suddenly opened her fox eyes, emitting a beam of light. Subsequently, the talisman papers immediately caught fire.

Moments after the talisman papers had burned out, a phantom appeared in the bedroom.

Xiao Chao’s projection robot entered the bedroom and projected onto the phantom, and then, a young and beautiful girl appeared in the room.

The Fox Immortal asked, “Now that you see her in person, do you feel anything?”

Wu Ge shook his head, “No, I don’t remember anyone’s face anymore. However, I do remember some people’s aura, but now, I can’t sense any aura.”

Xiao Chao spoke up, “Su Xiaoyu, eighteen years old, attended XX Third Middle School, was in the same class as Wu Ge from sophomore to junior year, was admitted to XX Art School, no history of mental illness, disappeared on August 17, 2025. According to police records, Su Xiaoyu booked a flight to Tibet at 17:30 on August 17 and boarded the plane at 10:30 AM on August 18. Her parents reported her missing at 6:30 PM on the same day. The police started an investigation at 9 AM on August 19. At this point, Su Xiaoyu should have already arrived in Tibet.”

Wu Ge said, “Since the police have started an investigation, they should be able to track down Su Xiaoyu’s whereabouts quickly under the big data network.”

Xiao Chao said, “Yes, the police found Su Xiaoyu’s trail that afternoon. Her parents immediately rushed to Tibet, and they also issued a missing person notice.”

Wu Ge pulled out a missing person notice, which read:

Su Xiaoyu, female, 18 years old, 1.65 meters tall, suffering from severe mental illness, left home on August 18 and has not returned. If anyone knows her whereabouts, please contact her family as soon as possible. A reward of 50,000 yuan will be given to those who provide valid information…

The Fox Immortal couldn’t help but say, “Parents really do break their hearts for their children!”

Wu Ge stated, “We need to go to Tibet, Xiao Chao!”

Xiao Chao immediately responded, “Understood. The transport plane is ready, and the mechanical city in Tibet has already dispatched search robots.”

This could potentially be the second human being on Earth, so they had to be cautious. Although two hundred years had passed, if Wu Ge could live for two hundred years, it couldn’t be entirely denied that others couldn’t.

Wu Ge and the team immediately set off for Tibet. This time, Xiao Chao didn’t mention anything about naming or possibilities, as it was clear that the chances of Su Xiaoyu still being alive were slim.

Upon arriving in Tibet, Xiao Chao led them to the last place where Su Xiaoyu was seen – at the foot of a large mountain. Su Xiaoyu wasn’t spotted by a camera, but in a photo taken by a tourist.

In the corner of that photo, Su Xiaoyu, carrying a pink backpack that was dirty, her clothes and face smeared with grime, and her hair messy, but she was still climbing the mountain with determination.

Seeing this photo, the Fox Immortal couldn’t help but say, “Is she really just an eighteen-year-old girl? Where did she get such courage?”

Wu Ge looked deeply at the photo and then said, “Never underestimate humans, especially those who walk alone!”
