Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 44 - The Universe Does Not Generate Itself

The tiger general turned around, looking towards the border, which was still far away from him. He shouted, “Telescope!”

A subordinate handed him a monocular telescope, and he immediately used it to look towards the border. Then, he saw a massive mechanical army, along with Wu Ge and the Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal on the battlefield.

“Nine Tails!” The tiger general put down the telescope, incredulously stating, “The Nine-Tailed Fox clan has joined forces with humans, and they’ve broken through our barrier!”

The old goat exclaimed, “Impossible, the Nine-Tailed Fox and the Divine Dragon are legendary demons that don’t exist!”

The tiger general threw the telescope to him, “See for yourself!”

Trembling, the old goat stood up, and then a subordinate approached, “General, what should we do now?”

The tiger general frowned, “Depends on the situation…”

Before he could finish, two incredibly large warships entered the barrier. The tiger general’s eyes widened, asking, “What is that?”

After calming the demon women and children, the Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal joined Wu Ge on the war vehicle, and they continued forward.

Wu Ge, observing the footage from the front lines, couldn’t help saying, “To think we’ve made it in time, it’s a miracle. I hope that tiger’s soul hasn’t dissipated yet.”

The Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal asked, “How did you manage to predict something that would happen in the far future?”

Wu Ge responded, “I don’t know. After having that dream, I became very vigilant. I had Xiao Chao search all the mountains nationwide and deploy countless robots to guard possible exits of the Demon Empire’s barrier. I didn’t expect to be on guard for thirty years.”

The Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal mentioned, “I’ve heard of the Demon Empire, a space created by ancient great demons. I never imagined it would be like this, maintaining the stability of the barrier by sacrificing warrior souls. It’s a method bound to cause outrage!”

After the dream, Wu Ge waited thirty years, until the Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal emerged from seclusion and provided the location of the Demon Empire. Together, they broke the barrier.

Unexpectedly, what they encountered after breaking the barrier was exactly the conclusion of Wu Ge’s dream. The dream ended with the death of the tiger demon, which Wu Ge believed was the tiger demon’s earnest plea to the heavens to protect his wife, a sincere wish that moved the universe and was revealed to Wu Ge in a dream thirty years ago.

Wu Ge lived up to expectations and successfully broke through, with his first act being to order the Mechanical Worm Race to protect the escapees’ wives and children.

Later, Wu Ge and the Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal approached the tiger general, who had only 7,000 troops left after years of battle, significantly reducing the Demon Empire’s military strength.

These 7,000 troops were surrounded by Xiao Chao’s mechanical army, with two super large warships hovering in the sky like mountains, preventing the tiger general from making any rash moves.

The old goat fell to his knees, telling the tiger general, “General, this is the Human Emperor; I saw the True Dragon’s Qi on him!”

The tiger general frowned, questioning, “What brings the Human Emperor here personally? This is the land of our Demon Empire. If you proceed further, I will take it as an invasion, and my demon race will resist you with all our might!”

The old goat, terrified, said, “General, consider the situation. The strength of humans is so great that destroying us would be as easy as flipping their hand!”

Wu Ge found the idea of being referred to as the Human Emperor peculiar, but the Nine-Tailed Fox Immortal whispered to him, “You are the last human on Earth, so naturally, all the True Dragon’s Qi has converged on you.”

Wu Ge was speechless, wondering if the True Dragon Qi had no choice but to concentrate on him because he was the last human.

In response to the tiger general’s doubts, Wu Ge explained, “I came here to recruit demon warriors. Those among you willing to leave the Demon Empire and survive outside, follow me. I will treat them as my people. Those who do not wish to may stay.”

The tiger general was firm in his stance, stating, “Demons of my kind will never follow the orders of a human.”

Wu Ge countered, “That’s not necessarily true. At least, the wives and children of the escapee warriors have decided to follow us. After all, there’s no place for them here anymore.”

Wu Ge had come in response to the sincere prayer of the tiger spirit before his soul dissipated. His goal was simple: to rescue those women and children. He knew that once they reached the border, they wouldn’t survive long due to the impassable desert that marked the boundary of the Demon Empire.

After addressing the group of women and children, Wu Ge planned to leave. He asked the Fox Immortal to comfort them, mentioning that their leader was also from the fox clan.

The Fox Immortal noted, “The Nine-Tailed Fox clan and ordinary fox clans are not the same, but I’ll go myself. It’s probably better for someone who is also a demon to explain to them.”

After the Fox Immortal left, Wu Ge commanded Xiao Chao to begin the retreat.

The tiger general was incredulous, asking, “You’re leaving just like that?”

He couldn’t believe it because, if it were him, he would certainly use such strength to conquer the Demon Empire and secure everything firmly in his hands.

Wu Ge turned around, “I came here moved by your brother’s will. I admire him greatly. Unfortunately, he performed the Great Prayer Technique at the cost of his soul’s dispersion, so I can’t bring him back.”

The Great Prayer Technique, a skill of the werewolf religious faction’s followers, involves praying to the deities at the cost of one’s soul to achieve what is otherwise impossible.

Here, the tiger demon wasn’t praying to a deity but to the heaven and earth. His war soul was already incredibly powerful, which enabled him to perform this time-traveling spell.

His prayer had only one request: “Please save my wife and children.”

Wu Ge received this prayer and chose to help, though he initially thought the matter had long concluded. Yet, he never gave up.

Thus, he waited until the Fox Immortal emerged from seclusion, and together, they broke through the barrier to arrive here.

This was the causal relationship of the entire event, as if the heavens felt the will of the tiger demon’s soul, which Wu Ge intercepted, like a distress signal randomly caught by someone fiddling with a radio.

It was merely a coincidence, for the heavens and earth do not possess their own will.

“Heaven and Earth do not generate themselves, hence they can live forever.”

Wu Ge intended to leave, but just as he had moved a few hundred meters away, the tiger general and the old goat chased after him. The old goat said, “Your Majesty, please wait, our Great Elder has something important to discuss with you.”

Wu Ge instructed Xiao Chao to stop, curious about what the Great Elder wanted to discuss with him.
