Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 39 - The Five Common Races

This was destined to be an extraordinarily long animation, spanning 1300 years. Thanks to Xiao Chao’s advanced technology aiding the werewolves, and the entire Werewolf Nation pouring its heart into this project, the animation was finally completed after three years, and Master Xing Chen lived to see this day.

The animation was broadcast simultaneously throughout the entire Werewolf Nation, and even the secretive base’s residents, including the Fox Immortal and others, watched intently. They had already received the script and understood the life of the Star Worm through the young man’s creation of “Star Worm,” but they didn’t want to miss this moment for anything.

At this moment, Master Xing Chen lay on a recliner, surrounded by his family, watching the animation. His eyes were half-open, and his fingers trembled slightly.

He was filled with anticipation, fear, and despair, afraid that the animation would not meet his expectations, leaving him without the courage to utter those words.

The animation began without any unnecessary dialogue, opening credits, or sponsor segments. It went straight to the point.

It showed a white, oval egg in a small incubation chamber, bathed in beams of blue light.

As time slowly passed, everyone waited with bated breath until they heard a “crack.”

The eggshell suddenly cracked open, a small slit appearing in the center, and then the shell was pushed up, revealing a pair of bright, curious eyes looking out at the world.

But then, the creature inside quickly shrank back, hiding. It took a long while before it cautiously peeked out again, its eyes scanning its surroundings.

As its eyes moved, so did its head, and gradually, its mouth opened in a look of wonder – the first in its life.

The little creature was born…

And with it, a magnificent epic spanning 1300 years unfolded before them.

Seeing this, Master Xing Chen slowly closed his eyes, tears streaming down his wrinkled face. He slightly opened his mouth as if to say something, but the sound from the animation drowned out his voice.

His family was so engrossed in the animation that they didn’t notice his condition. Xing Chen passed away quietly a few minutes after the animation started playing. No one knew what he was trying to say in his final moments.

People knew only that when his family discovered he had gone, his face bore a content smile.

Many said it was the smile of satisfaction upon seeing a pleasing work, but only the young genius knew that Master had finally managed to utter those words.

“Master, my animation is complete.”

Master Xing Chen had departed, and the 18-year-old genius suddenly lost his spark, his works no longer resonated, and people stopped watching them.

Following the master’s wishes, his remains, along with the sci-fi novel “Star Worm” and the 130-episode animation “Star Worm,” were launched into space and buried in the vast expanse of the cosmos.

The master had lived his life and returned to the stars. Perhaps one day, his soul would return to his homeland and be reborn as a Star Worm. But would he then create a work titled “Werewolf”?

Wu Ge returned to the villa, having extracted the memories of Star Worm’s 1300-year-long life over fifty-five years. It was a tale of grandeur, sorrow, solitude, despair, and a sliver of hope.

Xiao Chao coldly analyzed the work, extracting useful information from those 1300 years.

But everyone was so captivated by watching the animation that they had no time to delve into that information until after the 130 episodes had finished airing. Having lived a thousand years, the Fox Immortal was profoundly moved and immediately went into seclusion after watching.

Vampire Xiao Luo and Sister Mei spent the entire time crying; Star Worm’s life was too tragic, too desperate.

After watching, Wu Ge let out a long sigh of relief. He knew Star Worm’s second life had been fulfilling. Although it lasted only fifty-five short years, he had created world-shaking works in a peaceful nation. In his later years, he wasn’t alone; his children were always by his side, and when he needed help, the entire nation had come together to assist him.

This contrasted sharply with his previous life of lonely wandering.

Wu Ge pondered alone for a long time, considering whether he should have shot the Star Worm at the beginning. He did not regret his decision because anyone who knew the life of the Star Worm understood that if Wu Ge hadn’t acted and allowed the Star Worm to descend on Earth or settle on other planets in the solar system, then sooner or later, everyone on Earth, including Wu Ge, Xiao Chao, and the Werewolf Race, would be annihilated by it.

There is no mercy in the cosmic battles between races, and the struggle between civilizations is a matter of life and death.

Days later, after reviewing the information extracted by Xiao Chao, Wu Ge became even more convinced of this. He carefully examined the data, which revealed that there are five known cosmic races: the Deity Race, the Nether Race, the Mechanical Race, the Technological Race, and the Worm Race.

The Deity Race, unlike what Wu Ge had understood, does not practice spiritual power but collects it. Typically, a powerful religion governs the populace within the Deity Race, collecting the people’s faith for combat. Their warships, often called Faith Ships, use spiritual power attacks and can even brainwash enemies into becoming their followers.

The Nether Race, similar to Sister Mei’s existence, is mostly comprised of malevolent spirits with only the instinct to destroy. They do not utilize star paths and tend to occupy a star system until encountering other civilizations, at which point they launch fierce attacks.

The Mechanical Race, like Xiao Chao, includes even those with souls, but their technological development is slow. They can only absorb technology from other races or capture intelligent beings to serve them.

The Technological Race, like Earth’s former inhabitants, develops technology to become incredibly powerful.

The last, the Worm Race, refers to races like the Star Worm that become strong through self-evolution. These races are not necessarily worms; they could be other beings characterized by physical rather than spiritual or technological advancement.

There are clear counter relationships among these five races. For instance, the Nether Race counters the Worm Race, the Worm Race counters the Mechanical Race, the Mechanical Race counters the Deity Race, the Deity Race counters the Technological Race, and the Technological Race counters the Nether Race.

However, this applies only when the powers are equal; if the strength difference is too vast, the counter relationships do not hold.

After this memory extraction, Xiao Chao has begun a major technological update, and new, more powerful unmanned warships are soon to be manufactured.
