Chapter 68: Hero? Doomed Villain?
Flying atop the dragon with the wind brushing against his ears, Aleron had never felt so free.
Glancing down below, he noticed a few origin warriors. They looked extremely small, insignificant even.
Aleron wasn't too bothered about them. In his eyes, it seemed like they could be snuffed out in a blink.
Aleron rubbed the dragon a bit and asked, 'Ashkar, do you know the location of the Genesis Coil?'
Ashkar was silent for a moment, then recalled the organisation from before and answered.
'Yes, Dad, I kept the scent of the place so I could have revenge later on.'
Aleron chuckled hearing the dragon's words. Ashkar's voice now sounded like that of a teenager, which caused him to find it amusing.
His dragons were growing.
'That's good.' Aleron was pleased by the dragon's words. As his father, Aleron understood Ashkar best.
Being the dragon of wrath, Ashkar was unwilling to accept the fact that he had almost been captured and imprisoned.
No longer dwelling on it, Aleron enjoyed the feeling of finally riding the dragon, closing his eyes and imagining many scenes play out.
Time passed slowly. Suddenly, Aleron heard a loud, piercing scream.
The noise attracted him and the two dragons.
He opened his eyes lightly and then glanced at them. The figures of the two were too distant for him to see.
However, his dragons, with their enhanced vision, could see everything play out.
Ashkar remained silent seeing the scene, but Veldora was displeased.
'Dad, we have to save her…' Aleron heard Veldora's voice in his mind.
He frowned. Save? That was something extremely distant to him.
'Veldora, there is no need to bother with them. Let's just continue on our way.' Aleron ignored her words and said lightly.
However, Veldora was reluctant. 'Dad, I think… we should save them. You said we were going to interact with other humans; now is the time to interact with them. We should start with saving them…'
Aleron frowned once more. This was something he was unwilling to do.
Aleron didn't care about the life and death of anyone in the origin world aside from him and his dragons.
He frowned and then turned in the direction of Veldora. However, he noticed she had already dove down without his command and was quickly heading towards the location of the shout.
'This girl…' Aleron sighed and then said to her, 'Veldora, come back.'
The dragon was silent for a moment, slowing down slightly before she accelerated and replied evenly, 'Dad, I'll be right back.'
'This girl, she never learns.' Aleron shook his head, then turned to Ashkar. 'Follow her.'
Ashkar immediately dove down towards the location, following Veldora.
In a flash, they had both reached the location of the place.
Aleron heard a few voices.
"Please, I beg you not to kill the young lady, please. We'll do anything." A middle-aged woman trembled as she spoke.
She was on her knees as she begged the few muscular men gathered not to go away.
The men glanced at her, and one of them sneered.
He had a scar which ran down all the way from his cheek to his eyes. His eyes glinted maliciously as he stared at the woman.
"You little bitch, begging for mercy. We are just completing our mission; there is no need to plead so much. Since we have taken the mission to kill her, of course, we'll kill her."
The others beside him laughed as well, sneering at the middle-aged woman and throwing all sorts of curses at her.
Behind her was a trembling little girl who seemed to be the age of sixteen.
She trembled faintly under the stares of the bandits in front of her and the middle-aged lady.
Aleron watched all this with a neutral expression; however, Veldora was unwilling to stand by idly.
Having experienced the horrors of the world, Veldora was eager to save the little girl, and so she moved.
The bandits weren't strong, only being at the origin initiate and apprentice realm.
So the moment Veldora moved, she was only a flash of blue light, and then the head of one of the men had been sliced off clean.
A wave of discomfort erupted in Veldora's heart, as this was the first time she was killing a human of similar race as her father.
Releasing the pressure of her aura, she turned towards the group of bandits, staring at them lightly.
The bandits felt a chill run up their spines being stared at by Veldora, and without hesitation, took to their heels, not daring to stay and wait for death.
Having sensed Veldora's pressure, which was at the origin adept realm, they knew that they stood no chance against the dragon.
Veldora glanced at them as they ran but didn't move to attack them anymore.
Instead, she turned her attention to the middle-aged woman and the little girl.
She gave a light nod, then turned around and flapped her wings, taking off into the skies.
The gazes of the middle-aged woman and the lady trailed the dragon, and they noticed the second dragon, which was dark in color and far larger than the dragon which had saved them.
Just then, the lady's voice trembled, "Is that... " she was stunned.
The woman also noticed Aleron's figure at this moment. "Is that a summoner?" she was startled and quickly shouted,
"Thank you for saving us, kind sir!"
Veldora was also pleased at the sight of this; her voice echoed in Aleron's mind.
'See? Dad, everything is solved… you shouldn't be worried. We should save more people along the way… everything is perfectly fine.'
Aleron's face wasn't pleased; rather, he looked gloomy.
'No, Veldora, everything is not alright.'
Aleron said lightly, and the next moment the two who were waving at the dragons felt a pause in their hearts.
Their facial expressions froze, and a faint arc of lightning appeared on their bodies.
Veldora felt something was wrong hearing Aleron's words and turned to glance at the two who were not too far away.
However, all she saw was a gust of wind blow by, and the two drifted into the wind, turned to ashes and dust.
Veldora's eyes widened.
'Dad, what just happened?' she was startled, having not expected something like this to happen.
Aleron just sighed, glancing at the system's notification in his line of sight, his heart growing colder.
